Abstract: O efeito da aplica o combinada de calagem e aduba o fosfatada nos níveis críticos do solo e da planta em Eucalyptus dunnii foi estudado em condi es de vaso. Os tratamentos consistiram na combina o de três níveis de calagem (C0, sem calagem; C1/2, metade da dose para elevar o pH em água a 5,5 pelo método do pH SMP; C1, dose para elevar o pH em água a 5,5 pelo método do pH SMP) e cinco doses de fósforo (0; 50; 150; 300 e 600 mg de P kg-1 de solo). O experimento foi conduzido por 67 dias em casa de vegeta o n o climatizada, utilizando um Cambissolo Húmico Ta Alumínico Típico. As maiores produ es de matéria seca da parte aérea foram observadas no maior nível de calagem. Os níveis críticos de P no solo e na massa seca da parte aérea diminuíram com o aumento do nível de calagem. The effect of combined application of lime and phosphorus in critical levels in soil and plants of Eucalyptus dunnii in vessels was studied. The treatments consisted of three levels of lime (C0, without liming; C1/2, liming with half the doses to raise the pH in water at pH 5.5 by the method of SMP; C1, liming with dose to raise the pH in water at 5.5 by the same method) and five doses of phosphorus (0, 50, 150, 300 and 600 mg P kg-1 of soil). The experiment was carried out during 67 days in a greenhouse, using a Ta-aluminate Typical Humic Cambisol. The highest yields of shoots dry matter were observed at the highest level of liming. The critical levels of P in soil and shoot dry mass decreased with increasing level of liming.

Abstract: The effect of combined application of lime, phosphorus sources and forms of application of the phosphorus sources on growth and P uptake of Eucalyptus dunnii have been studied in pots. The treatments consisted of two levels of liming (C0, C1 lime to raise to pH 5.5 in water by pH SMP method), two phosphorus sources (triple superphosphate and Gafsa rock phosphate) and two forms of application of phosphorus sources (incorporated and located). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using a Humic Cambisol Ta aluminate Typical for 67 days. Liming increased dry matter production of shoots, plant growth, accumulation and P use efficiency in Eucalyptus; the incorporated application was more efficient than localized. Abstract: The objective of this study was to assess variability of Pinus taeda L. growth in function of the soil physical characteristics. The soils data were obtained from a detailed mapping, in the scale 1:10,000, in two areas of the Forest Company – Battistella Florestal, located in the states of Santa Catarina and Parana. Data on forestry growth was collected from continuous forest inventory, obtained from a population growing on an area of 2,252 ha. On a commercial Pinus taeda plantation 28 plots (CFIP) were selected with trees of different growing rate and they were divided in two similar groups of different ages: 12 and 13/14 years. Sites with older trees and soil with greater clay content showed trees with greater annual mean increment. There was a positive correlation among tree wood volume, soil macroporosity and aeration porosity on both soil depths, mainly for sites with trees of 12 years of age. Correlation among tree wood volume and soil microporosity, actual soil moisture and available soil moisture was negative, probably due to slower soil drainage on an area with no drought periods. Soils with similar contentes of clay and sand were more productive. doi: 10.4336/2010.pfb.30.61.37 Foi estudado o rendimento de Pinus taeda L. em fun o de propriedades físico-hídricas do solo. O trabalho foi baseado em um mapeamento detalhado de solos, na escala 1:10.000, em duas áreas da empresa Battistella Florestal, localizadas nos estados de Santa Catarina e Paraná. Os dados dendrométricos utilizados foram coletados em parcelas de inventário florestal contínuo (PIFCs), em um povoamento com área de 2.252 ha. Foram selecionados 28 PIFC’s com árvores de crescimentos diferentes, separadas em dois grupos com idades de 12 e 13/14 anos. Os sítios com árvores de maior idade e de solos com maior teor de argila, em média, apresentaram maior incremento médio anual das árvores. Houve correla es positivas entre o volume de madeira das árvores, a macroporosidade e a porosidade de aera o, nas camadas de solo estudadas, principalmente, nos sítios com árvores de 12 anos de idades. As correla es entre volume de madeira das árvores e microporosidade, umidade atual e disponibilidade de água do solo foram negativas, provavelmente pela menor drenagem dos solos em área sem déficit hídrico. Solos com teores similares de argila e areia apresentaram o maior incremento médio anual das árvores. doi: 10.4336/2010.pfb.30.61.37

Abstract: Plantation forests in Brazil cover 7 million hectares, which represents 1% of the country (68% of Eucalyptus and 25% of Pinus plantations). The aim of this study was to evaluate a Eucalyptus urograndis plantation. High levels of Ca and Mg in the soil suggest that limestone had leached into the soil profile. The soil resistance down to 60 cm depth in the row of planting was lower than the inter-row space, indicating that deep tillage had been effective. Soil resistance, down to 20 cm depth at an inter-row distance of 1 m from the planting row, was higher, likely by the increase in soil compaction during the site preparation. The canopy biomass differed amongst the DBH classes, justifying the use of an allometric equation based on a basal area for assessing the canopy biomass. The observed variation in DBH did not correlate with variation in wood density. The wood density of 0.37 g cm-3 was lower than those reported for 7-year-old plantation. The in situ removal of the bark increased nutrient availability by 8-11%. Harvesting of tree bole in 3-year old plantation didn’t result in a large nutrient export, indicating that proper plantation management can contribute to plantation forest sustainability. doi: 10.4336/2011.pfb.31.68.331 No Brasil os plantios florestais ocupam 7 milh es de hectares que correspondem a 1% do território (68% com planta es de Eucalyptus e 25% com Pinus) O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar plantios de Eucalyptus urograndis. Estoques elevados de Ca e Mg no solo, sugerem uma lixivia o do calcário. A resistência do solo até os 60 cm de profundidade na linha de plantio foi menor do que na entrelinha, indicando que a subsolagem foi eficiente. Os valores de resistência do solo foram mais altos na entrelinha, distante 1 m da linha de plantio, até os 20 cm de profundidade, provavelmente pelo aumento da compacta o na prepara o da área. A biomassa da copa das árvores diferiu entre as classes de DAP, justificando o uso de equa o para a sua estimativa. A varia o observada para área basal n o refletiu em diferen as de densidade da madeira. A densidade da madeira de 0,37 g cm-3 foi menor do que a de plantios com 7 anos. A remo o da casca no campo aumentou o suprimento de nutrientes entre 8% e 11%. Abstract: O conhecimento integrado das características do solo e outros elementos do meio ambiente é de fundamental importancia para a sustentabilidade e competitividade do setor florestal brasileiro. Este estudo foi desenvolvido com o propósito de identificar unidades de manejo produtivas homogêneas (UMP′s). Dados de 128 unidades amostrais foram obtidos em um levantamento pedológico detalhado (escala 1:15.000) realizado em uma propriedade com 4.660 ha, localizada no Planalto Ocidental Paulista, no Município de Araraquara. Os dados originais de cada variável foram analisados por meio de técnicas definidas como “Lógica Fuzzy”. A aplica o dessa técnica permitiu estabelecer, de forma simples e precisa, as UMP′s, revelando informa es importantes para futuras interven es nessas áreas homogêneas, em termos de produtividade, visando ao aumento ou manuten o da produ o. As seguintes unidades de manejo foram identificadas para o cultivo de eucaliptos na área em estudo: boa, moderada, fraca, muito fraca e inapta. This study was developed in order to identify a set of productive management units for plantations established with Eucalyptus species, using the method called “Fuzzy Logic”. Data were obtained from 128 sampling units from a detailed soil survey (scale 1:15,000) of a 4,660 ha eucalyptus plantation, located in Araraquara county, in the western plateau of the S o Paulo State. The proposed method showed a great potential to be used as a tool to support the identification of management units for Eucalyptus sp. planted forests. The following management units were identified for the establishment of Eucalyptus plantations: good, moderate, weak, very weak and inapt.

Abstract: The use of silicate is a practice that has been frequently adopted in annual crops, although few studies have been conducted in order to verify its efficiency in forest tree species. The main objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of calcium and potassium silicates in the growth of seedlings of Eucalyptus grandis. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in Alambari county, State of S o Paulo. A completely randomized experimental design was adopted, with eight treatments, three replications and 25 plants per plot, maintained at the field capacity moisture level. Seedlings were planted in plastic tubes using local substrate, basic fertilization and silicates. Diameter, height and fresh and dry biomass of the seedlings were determined 150 days after silicates treatments were applied. The use of silicates either in the substrate or through foliar application, in the production of eucalypt seedlings has proven to be inadequate when the substrate presents a balanced basic composition in terms of nutrients and pH. doi: 10.4336/2011.pfb.31.66.83 O uso de silicato é uma prática que vem sendo adotada com frequência em culturas anuais, muito embora poucos trabalhos tenham sido realizados com intuito de verificar sua eficiência em espécies florestais arbóreas. O objetivo principal desta pesquisa foi avaliar o efeito da aplica o de silicatos de cálcio e de potássio no crescimento de mudas de Eucalyptus grandis. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegeta o, no Município de Alambari, SP. O delineamento usado foi inteiramente ao acaso, com oito tratamentos, três repeti es e 25 plantas por parcela, sendo mantidas na umidade de capacidade de campo. As mudas foram plantadas em tubetes de plástico, utilizando substrato local, com aduba o básica e silicatos. Diametro de colo, altura e biomassa verde e seca das mudas foram determinados 150 dias após a aplica o dos silicatos. Verificou-se que a aplica o dos silicatos, via substrato ou foliar, em mudas de eucalipto, mostrou-se inadequada quando o substrato utilizado apresentou composi o básica equilibrada em termos de nutrientes e pH. doi: 10.4336/2011.pfb.31.66.83

Abstract: non-melanoma skin cancers are the most common malignant neoplasms in humans. about 95% of all non-melanoma skin cancers are represented by basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. their prevalences are still increasing worldwide, representing an important public health problem. the genetic alterations underlying basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma development are only partly understood. much interest lies in determining the genetic basis of non-melanoma skin cancers, to explain their distinctive phenotypes, biological behaviors and metastatic potential. we present here a molecular genetic update, focusing on the most frequent genes and genomic instability involved in the development and progression of non-melanoma skin cancers.
