This article contemplates Clarice Lispector’s “A hora da estrela” (The Hour of the Star), based on Jauss′ Reception Theory, which takes into account the historical context in literary analyses. Published in late 1977, this work – which tells the story of Macabéa - a natural born northeast Brazilian woman that “not knowing why or how” moves to the “unbelievable city of Rio de Janeiro” – is considered by many scholars the “most explicitly social” one done by the author. Up to that moment, her books had frequently been accused by critics of “deviating” from reality, focusing predominantly on psychological features and leaving social and political contexts aside. In “A Hora da Estrela”, the social themes become more explicit, representing a kind of “rupture” in the writer′s literary career, which was interrupted by her death, the same year of its publication. The article is an attempt to apprehend traces of the dialogic relation between the writer′s last work, before her death, and its context, which includes the period of dictatorship in Brazil. In order to do that, this study also makes a comparison between the book and the film version, directed by Glauber Rocha.

Marques, Silvio Alencar;Silva, Sabrina Bortoletto Gomes da;Camargo, Rosangela Maria Pires de;Stolf, Hamilton Ometto;Marques, Mariangela Esther Alencar;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962012000300016
Abstract: malassezia folliculitis is an inflammatory disorder observed in both immunocompetent and immunosuppressed patients. the authors describe an unusual and exuberant presumed case affecting the face, trunk and upper limbs of a 12-year-old nonimmunosuppressed patient. although the agent was not identified by culture, the clinical and histopathological aspects plus the response to specific treatment support the diagnosis of malassezia folliculitis. the only possible predisponent cause observed on the patient was greasy skin. repetitive cultures were negative. treatment with itraconazol promoted apparent cure, however, the patient relapsed twelve months later.

Abstract: the orthopaedic oncology group provides medical and psychosocial care to patients, both in hospital and outpatient facilities, with musculoskeletal tumors. with this research we aimed to know the socioeconomical profile of the patients/ families, as well as the changes occurred after such diagnosis is received. the sample was constituted of 25 families of patients with osteosarcoma on lower limbs. the study was conducted between september and october 2005 by means of forms containing open and closed questions, using the collective subject speech for qualitative analysis. the study had a prospective, descriptive design with quanti-qualitative approach. among the respondents, 68% were females including 44% of mothers; 76% worked, and 28% of these had formal jobs. 60% had a family income amounting 2-5 minimum wages. after diagnosis, 92% faced increased expenses; 80% reported challenges with the chemotherapy; 56% mention transportation as the major factor affecting compliance to treatment. 100% feel desperate when they first know they have cancer. cancer causes changes in family members' roles. there is always the fear of recurrence, which ultimately lead the family to fear death, thus requiring a joint effort with a multidisciplinary team.
