The services that may be rendered by using the DOCTUS IV patient monitor designed by the authors and a group of researchers from the Central Institute of Digital Research are assessed here. Abstract: dermatoglyphics is a software system developed by the central institute for digital research (cidr) and by a group of specialists from the "william soler" pediatric teaching hospital, leaded by dr. liane borbolla vacher, a high level specialist in dermatoglyphics with an internationally recognized prestige. the analysis of the line and ridge patterns of the fingers and palms of the hands and the toes and soles of the feet has been used since last century as a criterion for the diagnosis of different diseases, mainly of those of genetic origin. this computerized system allows to show the finger and palms prints of each patient, using files generated by the scanner, the enlargement of different scales, the image improvement, and the selection of qualitative data. it also provides tools for the calculation of the quantitative dermatoglyphic data. this information, as well as the general data of the patient, is stored in databases that may be partial or totally listed, which is very useful for research. the system makes possible the generation of a text file for its further analysis by statistical packages.

Abstract: with the aim to evaluate the effect of ivermectin 2.25% + abamectin 1.25% in the reduction of gastrointestinal nematodes eggs per gram (epg) and the weight gain in bovines in 90 days, twenty four santa gertrudis breed, weaned calves localized in a ranch in malpaso, tecpatan municipality, chiapas, mexico, with a warm humid climate, were used. the calves were in extensive grazing on african star and native grasslands. they were naturally infected with gastrointestinal nematodes (gin), and were weighed on day -3. according to the individual weight and the egg count, two groups of 12 animals each, were integrated, without statistical difference in the weight and the average of epg, above of 700 eggs (p < 0.05). group 1 was treated with one formulation of ivermectin at 2.25% + abamectina at 1.25%, in doses of 700 mcg/kg corresponding to 1 ml per 50 kg, by subcutaneous via. group 2 was the control without anthelminthic treatment. coprological examination was done at -3, 10, 45 and 90 days, moreover, coprocultures from each group were prepared with homogenized feces, in order to obtain larvae (l3). weights were recorded on-3, and 45, 90 days after treatment. it was found that weight gain between group 1, treated with 2.25% ivermectin + 1.25% abamectin, was 30.7 kg, equivalent to 350 g per day in average, with significant statistical difference (p < 0.05), in relation to the control group. the reduction percentage of epg showed difference at 10 and 45 days (p < 0.05), between the control and treated group; however, at 90 days they were not different. the genuses of gin identified by frecuency order were: haemonchus, cooperia, trichostrongylus, oesophagostomum and ostertagia.

COMPORTAMIENTO DE LA FUNCIóN VENTRICULAR POR ECOCARDIOGRAFíA EN PACIENTES CON INFARTO AGUDO DE MIOCARDIO / Behavior of the ventricular function by echocardiography in patients with acute myocardial infarction
Leonel Hernández Cruz
CorSalud , 2009,
Abstract: An observational descriptive study was carried out with the aim of knowing the behavior of the ventricular function by bidimensional echocardiography, calculating the ejection fraction of the leftventricle in acute myocardial infarction patients who were treated or not with Cuban recombinant streptokinase. The universe was formed by 102 patients with the above mentioned diagnosis who underwent a bidimensional echocardiography by means of which the ejection fraction of the left ventricle was determined. The anterior infarctions predominated. The ejection fraction of the leftventricle was higher in those patients who received thrombolytic treatment independently from the topographic localization of the infarction. The average time for the implementation of thethrombolytic treatment was always less than 6 hours, although, without showing a statistical difference, the anterior infarctions received treatment an average of 35 minutes earlier than theinferior infarctions.
CARACTERíSTICAS Y CLASIFICACIóN DE LOS SUELOS CULTIVADOS DE ARROZ EN LA PALMA, PINAR DEL RíO
Hernández,A; Moreno,Irene;
Cultivos Tropicales , 2010,
Abstract: the morphological, physicochemical and fertility characteristics of six soil profiles from la palma, pinar del rio, cultivated with rice are studied in this paper. soils proved to be affected by gleyzation process and have an unfavorable a horizon structure. at the same time, as a result of rice growth, there is an anthropic horizon named hydragric in two of these profiles. besides, the six soil profiles are classified by cuban system, as well as those of world reference base and soil taxonomy. the two first soil classifications were correctly applied; however, soil taxonomy could not be applied to soils having an anthropic horizon

Abstract: Malignant astrocytomas are the most aggressive primary brain tumors with a poor prognosis despite optimal treatment. Dysfunction of mismatch repair (MMR) system accelerates the accumulation of mutations throughout the genome causing uncontrolled cell growth. The aim of this study was to characterize the MMR system defects that could be involved in malignant astrocytoma pathogenesis. We analyzed protein expression and promoter methylation of MLH1, MSH2 and MSH6 as well as microsatellite instability (MSI) and MMR gene mutations in a set of 96 low- and high-grade astrocytomas. Forty-one astrocytomas failed to express at least one MMR protein. Loss of MSH2 expression was more frequent in low-grade astrocytomas. Loss of MLH1 expression was associated with MLH1 promoter hypermethylation and MLH1 -93G>A promoter polymorphism. However, MSI was not related with MMR protein expression and only 5% of tumors were MSI-High. Furthermore, the incidence of tumors carrying germline mutations in MMR genes was low and only one glioblastoma was associated with Lynch syndrome. Interestingly, survival analysis identified that tumors lacking MSH6 expression presented longer overall survival in high-grade astrocytoma patients treated only with radiotherapy while MSH6 expression did not modify the prognosis of those patients treated with both radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Our findings suggest that MMR system alterations are a frequent event in malignant astrocytomas and might help to define a subgroup of patients with different outcome.
