Abstract: Cancer affects a large number of children and adolescents each year, and studies prove possible negative influences on the emotional state during the treatment of the disease. This study is part of the macro search entitled “Hospital Psychological Assessment Protocol: A Contribution to the care to Oncologic Patients”, from which the data were extracted. The main objective of this study was to identify the emotional disorders in oncologic children and adolescents in the hospitalization process, through the DHF: Drawing of the Human Figure—DHF. It refers to a cross-sectional descriptive study, with qualitative method, with approach in psychoanalysis. The study included 10 oncohematologic children and adolescents, aged between 5 and 17 years and 11 months in the hospitalization process for cancer treatment in the Hospital Foundation of Hematology of the Amazon—HEMOAM. To obtain preliminary information, we used an Anamnese script in an interview with parents/guardians, after that, it applied the projective psychological test, in a maximum time of 50 minutes. Among the main results identified in the research as emotional changes in the hospitalization process, it could be highlighted: hostility, narcissism, depression, preoccupation with themselves, aggression, insecurity, withdrawal, regression, anxiety and tension. The emotions that were prevalent throughout the period of hospitalization for chemotherapy were: aggression, insecurity, withdrawal, regression, anxiety and tension. The resources used by the child and the adolescent as strategies to tackle the disease were: regression, withdrawal, aggression and hostility. It is concluded that the instrument (DHF) allows psychological assistance which is performed without exposing the patient to content that permeates the hospital environment, thus favoring the therapeutic secrecy without interfering with hospital routine, but adapting to it.

Abstract: objective: to analyze hemodynamic and metabolic effects of saline solution infusion in the maintenance of blood volume in ischemia-reperfusion syndrome during temporary abdominal aortic occlusion in dogs. methods: we studied 20 dogs divided into 2 groups: the ischemia-reperfusion group (irg, n=10) and the ischemia-reperfusion group with saline solution infusion aiming at maintaining mean pulmonary arterial wedge pressure between 10 and 20 mmhg (irg-ss, n=10). all animals were anesthetized with sodium thiopental and maintained on spontaneous ventilation. occlusion of the supraceliac aorta was obtained with inflation of a fogarty catheter inserted through the femoral artery. after 60 minutes of ischemia, the balloon was deflated, and the animals were observed for another 60 minutes of reperfusion. results: irg-ss dogs did not have hemodynamic instability after aortic unclamping, and the mean systemic blood pressure and heart rate were maintained. however, acidosis worsened, which was documented by a greater reduction of arterial ph that occurred especially due to the absence of a respiratory response to metabolic acidosis that was greater with the adoption of this procedure. conclusion: saline solution infusion to maintain blood volume avoided hemodynamic instability after aortic unclamping. this procedure, however, caused worsening in metabolic acidosis in this experimental model.

Vale, Nilton Bezerra do;
Revista Brasileira de Anestesiologia , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-70942002000300013
Abstract: background and objectives: recently, the use of medicinal teas - infusions, decoction, tisanes, dyeings - or drugs of vegetal origin are being systematically and increasingly revived to prevent and treat diseases together with conventional medicine in most western countries. this review aimed at analyzing major herbs that were the basis for the progress of modern anesthetic therapy through their use as molecular models for organic synthesis in fine leading edge modern chemistry, as well as shedding more light on the advantages, potential adverse effects, interactions and risks for side-effects which may affect anesthesia in surgical patients users of phytotherapy. contents: selected anesthesiologic considerations are discussed focusing a brief review of popular herbs essentials on the development of anesthetic pharmacology and the potential drug-herb interactions between synthetic drugs used in anesthesia and the medicinal herbs used by patients in their illness and symptoms management. conclusions: while specialized medicine is increasingly fascinated by the advanced technology of new drugs and fantastic monitors, there is an increasing trend in several countries for a more holistic approach and rejection of new treatment methods, with an option for teas, meditation, vegetarian diets and anti-oxidants, among others. it is the anesthesiologist?s role to evaluate how much pharmacognosy and pharmacobotany knowledge may help him in the anesthetic practice and, especially, in patients safety.
Analgesia adjuvante e alternativa

Revista Brasileira de Anestesiologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-70942006000500012
Abstract: background and objectives: although acute and chronic pain are usually controlled with pharmacological interventions, 14 complementary methods of adjuvant and alternative analgesia (aaa) may reduce the abusive prescription of analgesics and the side effects that eventually compromise the patient's physiological status. contents: the action of every analgesic mechanism is through the spinal gate of melzack and wall and/or through signal transduction in the central neurotransmission and neuromodulation systems related to analgesia, relaxation, and mood: peptidergic, monoaminergic, gabaergic, cholinergic, and cannabinoid. complementary adjuvant analgesia is normally used in physiatric, orthopedic, rheumatologic, and obstetric treatments and acupuncture. it can potentiate conventional analgesic methods: exposure to the morning sunlight; light and colors under artificial light; time (t) - more potent general anesthetics at night, opioids in the morning, and local anesthetics in the afternoon; diet; good spirits and laughter; spirituality, religion, meditation; music therapy; hypnosis; and placebo effect. conclusions: if acute pain is a defense mechanism, chronic pain is a disagreeable pathologic state related to endogenous depression and poor quality of life. it is important to establish interdisciplinary relationships between adjuvant and alternative medicine in classic analgesic and anti-inflammatory therapies.
