Abstract: RAD as a methodology for implementing information systems has been used in a broad range of domains utilizing technology as an informational backbone but perhaps one of the main areas where this approach has been proven to be a natural fit has been in the investment banking (IB) industry, most notably when applied to trading systems. This paper introduces some of the main tenants of RAD development and focuses on a number of case studies where RAD has proven to be an extremely suitable method for implementing solutions required in the IB industry as well as explaining why RAD may be more successful than other classic de-velopment methods when applied to IB related solutions.
Trading Platform for the Global Warrant Markets

Abstract: Global warrant markets are among the most active financial markets in the retail derivatives investment landscape currently. In this context some of the most relevant markets in the last years have been the ones across Asia and in particular Hong Kong, Korea and Japan. This paper introduces the financial instruments used in connection with the warrant markets, pre-sents and offers suggestions for setting up a generic warrant market making system and in-troduces the main concepts and components that need to be taken into account when develop-ing these systems targeting an exchange driven or E-Businesscontext.

Abstract: The global OTC markets have been very active in the past decade as many institutions have chosen to rely on growth in the OTC issuance to facilitate deal-making outside of the exchange regulated avenues. Products included in this category are bonds, converts, volatility and variance swaps, CDS contracts. This paper introduces the financial instruments used in connection with the OTC markets, presents and offers suggestions for setting up generic sell and buys side RFQ and market making systems and introduces the main concepts and compo-nents that need to be taken into account when developing such systems when targeting the growing E-Business focus of the market.

Abstract: in today's capitalist society is commonly accepted that the role of science is to serve the social practice through its instrumental capabilities. by this way, science and technology become confused and technoscience is celebrated as an instrument to achieve social or material goals, determined by different factual social powers. however, this prevailing of technoscience makes science suspicious for the public and ambiguous at its social role. that's why the scientific enterprise should be politically corrected to ensure that public get in contact with science in a context of really illuminating spirit. science could play a major role struggling against technoscience, talking from the critic and the imagination of alternative scenarios, and providing a defense of the human values that must underlie our civilization. its non instrumental role as an organ of civil society is a main element of the pluralistic democracy, and this vital function becomes possible thanks to traditional academic practices. the future relationship of science with society shouldn't be constituted from the utilitarian technoscience, but from its liberty to play a non instrumental and critic role that supports and enriches the pluralistic democracy.

Abstract: En la sociedad capitalista actual se acepta comúnmente que el papel de la ciencia es servir a la práctica social a través de sus capacidades instrumentales. Se confunde así a la ciencia con la tecnología y se celebra la tecnociencia como instrumento para alcanzar fines sociales o materiales, determinados por distintos poderes sociales fácticos. Sin embargo, esta preeminencia de la tecnociencia también hace a la ciencia sospechosa para el público y ambigua en su papel social. Por eso la empresa científica necesitaría ser políticamente corregida para asegurar que el público se contacte con ella en un ambiente de verdadero espíritu iluminador. La ciencia puede desempe ar un papel relevante combatiendo la tecnocracia desde la crítica y la imaginación de escenarios alternativos, aportando la defensa de los valores humanos que deben subyacer a nuestra civilización. Su papel no instrumental como órgano de la sociedad civil es un elemento esencial de la democracia pluralista, y esta vital función social es posible gracias a las prácticas académicas tradicionales. La futura relación de la ciencia con la sociedad no debe constituirse desde la tecnociencia utilitaria, sino desde su libertad para desarrollar su papel no instrumental y crítico que sostiene y enriquece la democracia pluralista. Abstract: This paper analyses the relationship between scientific knowledge and the societies in which it is produced. After considering the diverse societal roles science has performed in different types of society, the discussion focuses on science’s role in democratic and pluralistic societies. Opposite to the increasing instrumental role knowledge production plays nowadays, for which it has been named post-academic science or technoscience , non instrumental roles of traditional academic research are defended. It is argued that only if academic science keeps its autonomy and integrity from political and corporate interests, it may serve civil society by offering impartial and trustworthy knowledge to balance biases produced by the features of post-academic science. En este artículo se analizan las relaciones del conocimiento científico con las sociedades en las que se produce. Tras repasar sus diversas funciones en tipos distintos de sociedades, la discusión se centra en los fines de la ciencia en las sociedades democráticas pluralistas. Frente al cada vez mayor rol instrumental de la ciencia, por el que ha recibido los nombres de ciencia postacadémica o tecnociencia , se defienden los roles no instrumentales tradicionales de la investigación académica clásica. Se argumenta que sólo si la ciencia académica mantiene su autonomía y su integridad frente a intereses políticos o empresariales podrá ser de utilidad al público al ofrecerle conocimiento imparcial y fidedigno frente a los sesgos producidos por la naturaleza propia de la ciencia postacadémica.
Advances in Personalized Targeted Treatment of Metastatic Melanoma and Non-Invasive Tumor Monitoring

Abstract: Despite extensive scientific progress in the melanoma field, treatment of advanced stage melanoma with chemotherapeutics and biotherapeutics has rarely provided response rates higher than 20%. In the past decade, targeted inhibitors have been developed for metastatic melanoma, leading to the advent of more personalized therapies of genetically characterized tumors. Here we review current melanoma treatments and emerging targeted molecular therapies. In particular we discuss the mutant BRAF inhibitors Vemurafenib and Dabrafenib, which markedly inhibit tumor growth and advance patients’ overall survival. However this response is almost inevitably followed by complete tumor relapse due to drug resistance hampering the encouraging initial responses. Several mechanisms of resistance within and outside the MAPK pathway have now been uncovered and have paved the way for clinical trials of combination therapies to try and overcome tumor relapse. It is apparent that personalized treatment management will be required in this new era of targeted treatment. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) provide an easily accessible means of monitoring patient relapse and several new approaches are available for the molecular characterization of CTCs. Thus CTCs provide a monitoring tool to evaluate treatment efficacy and early detection of drug resistance in real time. We detail here how advances in the molecular analysis of CTCs may provide insight into new avenues of approaching therapeutic options that would benefit personalized melanoma management.
Incomplete quantum process tomography and principle of maximal entropy

Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to extend and apply the principle of maximum entropy (MaxEnt) to incomplete quantum process estimation tasks. We will define a so-called process entropy function being the von Neumann entropy of the state associated with the quantum process via Choi-Jamiolkowski isomorphism. It will be shown that an arbitrary process estimation experiment can be reformulated in a unified framework and MaxEnt principle can be consistently exploited. We will argue that the suggested choice for the process entropy satisfies natural list of properties and it reduces to the state MaxEnt principle, if applied to preparator devices.
Process POVM: A mathematical framework for the description of process tomography experiments

Abstract: In this paper we shall introduce the mathematical framework for the description of measurements of quantum processes. Using this framework the process estimation problems can be treated in the similar way as the state estimation problems, only replacing the concept of positive operator valued measure (POVM) by the concept of process POVM (PPOVM). In particular, we will show that any measurement of qudit channels can be described by a collection of effects (positive operators) defined on two-qudit system. However, the effects forming a PPOVM are not normalized in the usual sense. We will demonstrate the usage of this formalism in discrimination problems by showing that perfect channel discrimination is equivalent to a specific unambiguous state discrimination.
