Assessment of Heart Rate Variability in Adolescents with Different Levels of Personal Anxiety in Physical and Mental Tests  [PDF]

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship of the personal anxiety level and the markers of autonomic nervous system function in schoolchildren. Methods: A total of 124 adolescents were examined using the questionnaire “The scale of reactive and personal anxiety” (PA) and an analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). The data were analysed and used to classify personal anxiety into 3 groups: low PA (<30 points), moderate PA (30 ≤ PA < 45 points), and high PA (>30 points). Associations between personal anxiety and HRV markers were assessed using Spearman’s rank correlation and the odds ratio (OR). Results: The optimal type of heart rhythm regulation was noted among 81.8% of adolescents with low PA compared to 56.8% of schoolchildren with moderate PA and 63.8% with high PA. Emotional stress was also significantly higher for the adolescents with a low level of PA vs. a moderate level of PA in both tests: in the orthostatic test (“high level” RRI OR = 1.87, p = 0.001) and in the “through the mind” test (“high level” RRI OR = 1.87, p < 0.001; “low level” OR = 1.88, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Emotional stress causes the most significant shifts of the functional indicators of the autonomic nervous and cardiovascular systems in schoolchildren, especially in those with high levels of personal anxiety, as determined by an orthostatic test.
On Hereditarily Normal Topological Groups

Abstract: In this paper we investigate hereditarily normal topological groups and their subspaces. We prove that every compact subspace of a hereditarily normal topological group is metrizable. To prove this statement we first show that a hereditarily normal topological group with a non-trivial convergent sequence has $G_\delta$-diagonal. This implies, in particular, that every countably compact subset of a hereditarily normal topological group with a non-trivial convergent sequence is metrizable. Another corollary is that under the Proper Forcing Axiom, every countably compact subset of a hereditarily normal topological group is metrizable.
On multivaled fixed-point free maps on R^n

Abstract: To formulate our results let $f$ be a continuous map from $\mathbb R^n$ to $2^{\mathbb R^n}$ and $k$ a natural number such that $|f(x)|\leq k$ for all $x$. We prove that $f$ is fixed-point free if and only if its continuous extension $\tilde f:\beta \mathbb R^n\to 2^{\beta \mathbb R^n}$ is fixed-point free. If one wishes to stay within metric terms, the result can be formulated as follows: $f$ is fixed-point free if and only if there exists a continuous fixed-point free extension $\bar f: b\mathbb R^n\to 2^{b\mathbb R^n}$ for some metric compactificaton $b\mathbb R^n$ of $\mathbb R^n$. Using the classical notion of colorablity, we prove that such an $f$ is always colorable. Moreover, a number of colors sufficient to paint the graph can be expressed as a function of $n$ and $k$ only. The mentioned results also hold if the domain is replaced by any closed subspace of $\mathbb R^n$ without any changes in the range.
The Region of Matching of Central-Asian Mobile Belt and Pacific Mobile Belt  [PDF]

Abstract:

Central Asian and Pacific mobile belts are the two geological superstructures of Eastern Asia. They keep many geological secrets. There is a region of the interaction of the structures in the frames of the margin ofEast Asia. The region is ambiguous. It is denominated in tectonic superposition or covering (interference) of the segments of the structures. The main goal of the research work is to establish the boundary line of the jointing of two superstructures. Here we show the role of the Mesozoic tectonic restructuring and magmatism in the interaction of the structures. The region of their jointing is the boundary line between Bureja-Jziamusy and Badzhal terrains. The boundary line in the frames of Mongol-Okhotsk orogenic belt is disputable. Geochronological and paleomagnetic data and chemical composition of the volcano-plutonic rocks of the eastern margin of Mongol-Okhotsk belt and of the structures of Central-Asian mobile belt were recently obtained. The data allow us to review the region of the joint of the two structures of easternAsia. It was suggested to draw the boundary line of the joint (in this case-interference) of Central Asian mobile belt and Pacific mobile belt in the frames of the eastern margin of Mongol-Okhotsk orogenic belt along the margin of the disappearance of late Mesozoic oversubductional volcano-plutonic complexes in the western direction. The structure of Bureja-Jziamusy superterrain was related to the structures of the Pacific mobile belt. The proposed model of the region of jointing of two East Asian superstructures enables us to reconsider the tectonic and geodynamical and metallogeny schemes of evolution of the Eastern margin ofAsia.

Injections into Function Spaces over Compacta

Abstract: We study the topology of X given that Cp(X) injects into Cp(Y), where Y is compact. We first show that if Cp over a GO-space (="subspace of a lineraly ordered space") injects into Cp over a compactum, then the Dedekind remainder of the GO-space is hereditarily paracompact. Also, for each ordinal tau of uncountable cofinality, we construct a continuous bijection of Cp(tau, {0,1}) onto a subgroup of Cp(tau+1, {0,1}), which is in addition a group isomorphism.
Stationary Sets in Topological and Paratopological Groups

Abstract: We show that if a topological or paratopological group $G$ contains a stationary subset of some regular uncountable cardinal, then $G$ contains a subspace which is not collectionwise normal. This statement implies that if a monotonically normal space (in particular, any generalized ordered space) is a paratopological group then the space is hereditarily paracompact.
