Cognition, social cognition and social functioning in schizophrenia
Paola Jaramillo,Inmaculada Fuentes,Juan C. Ruiz
Psychology, Society & Education , 2009,
Abstract: The discoveries continually being made in the study of schizophrenia have shown the complexity of this serious mental disorder. Research has enabled intervention to be redirected to focus on areas of maximum impact and efficacy. Currently, studies concur that the majority of people with schizophrenia exhibit deficits in non-social cognitive functioning, in performance in social cognition tasks and clearly in social functioning. This article aims to give a concise overview of developments made in these three areas and the importance of the subsequent relations between them.

Abstract The purpose was to describe the intensity and directional interpretation of anxiety and self-confidence in gymnasts of different ages, gender and competitive level in a major competition and analyze their differences in two meeting of very different importance in minor-level gymnasts. Were evaluated eight elite men gymnasts (G1; International level) and 8 national level female gymnasts (G2; National level). We administered a shortened version of the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2) in three competitions, among which two were most important in the season for each group (G1 and G2a) and the minor third for the group minor-level (G2b). The G1 have higher levels of self-confidence that G2. Moreover their interpretation of symptoms of anxiety as facilitators for their competitive performance was very high. The G1 had interpretations of the cognitive symptoms of anxiety higher than G2. No significant differences between intensity and directional interpretation of anxiety and self-confidence in G2 when evaluated in two competitions of different importance.doi:10.5232/ricyde2011.02301

Abstract: Cohort study including 27,000 individuals 60 years or older assigned to nine Primary Care Centers in the region of Tarragona, Spain. According to the reception of PPV-23 before the start of the study, the study population will be divided into vaccinated and nonvaccinated groups, which will be followed during a consecutive 30-month period. Primary Care and Hospitals discharge databases will initially be used to identify study events (community-acquired pneumonia, hospitalisation for acute myocardial infarction and stroke), but all cases will be further validated by checking clinical records. Multivariable Cox regression analyses estimating hazard ratios (adjusted for age, sex and comorbidities) will be used to estimate vaccine effectiveness. The results of the study will contribute to clarify the controversial effect of the PPV-23 in preventing community-acquired pneumonia and they will be critical in determining the posible role of pneumococcal vaccination in cardiovascular prevention.Infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae remain a major public health problem throughout the world. Susceptibility to pneumococcal infections varies with age, being highest in young children and older adults, who experience substantial morbidity and mortality (especially in those with underlying high-risk medical conditions) [1,2].The main reservoir of pneumococcus is the nasopharynx, and the possible outcomes after colonisation are the clearance by the organism, the asymptomatic persistence for several months (carrier state), or the progression to disease. During the disease the bacteria can spread to adjacent mucosal tissues causing mucosal infections (otitis, sinusitis, bronchitis and pneumonias) or it can invade the bloodstream, or other sterile sites, producing an invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). In adults, S. pneumoniae is the most frequent isolate from clinical samples of respiratory tract infections. It is responsible for approximately 50% of overall cases of community-
Intervención en Violencia de Género: Consideraciones en Torno al Tratamiento
Intervención Psicosocial , 2010,
Abstract: when considering a psychological intervention with a woman who has been a victim of gender violence, one must analyze which approach to take. here, we weigh up several factors that ground the intervention and make it meaningful, regardless of the theoretical framework of whoever is carrying out the intervention. we also analyze which elements of a gender violence victim?s background should be considered. so, instead of performing an undifferentiated intervention, we take each woman?s individuality into account and thus contribute more effectively to her recovery.
La heteronomía de la estética en la filosofía de Gianni Vattimo
Aisthesis , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-71812011000100013
Abstract: in recent years we have had the opportunity to know different theories that certify the ?death of art? from different points of view. the question we would like to answer, paying attention to one of them, is whether these theories imply, at the same time, the loss of aesthetic autonomy. it is a crucial question because the issue of sovereignty is closely tied to the discipline since its birth, to the point that it is almost impossible to isolate the history of aesthetics from this redemptive narrative.
Copper in plants
Yruela, Inmaculada;
Brazilian Journal of Plant Physiology , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1677-04202005000100012
Abstract: copper is an essential metal for normal plant growth and development, although it is also potentially toxic. copper participates in numerous physiological processes and is an essential cofactor for many metalloproteins, however, problems arise when excess copper is present in cells. excess copper inhibits plant growth and impairs important cellular processes (i.e., photosynthetic electron transport). since copper is both an essential cofactor and a toxic element, involving a complex network of metal trafficking pathways, different strategies have evolved in plants to appropriately regulate its homeostasis as a function of the environmental copper level. such strategies must prevent accumulation of the metal in the freely reactive form (metal detoxification pathways) and ensure proper delivery of this element to target metalloproteins. the mechanisms involved in the acquisition of this essential micronutrient have not been clearly defined although a number of genes have recently been identified which encode potential copper transporters. this review gives a briefly overview of the current understanding of the more important features concerning copper toxicity and tolerance in plants, and brings information of recent findings on copper trafficking including copper detoxification factors, copper transporters and copper chaperones.
La autorrepresentación del andaluz en web-series
Palabra Clave , 2012,
Abstract: this article is the result of a study on self-representation of the image ofandalusia and the andalusian people based on fictional production shown via the internet. the andalusian audiovisual scene has changed dramatically in the last two decades and the people of andalusia are beginning to tell their own stories. consequently, it is important to determine if the traditional stereotypes consolidated for centuries in literature and film are still being portrayed. with that objective in mind, the study uses a qualitative method that features a textual analysis based on the configuration of a series of variables representative of the stereotyped image of the andalusian people.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyse the possible effects of Age of Onset (AO), Cognitive Maturity (Age at Testing-AT-) and Amount of Exposure (AE) on the productive vocabularies of learners of English as a Foreign Language (FL). Three groups of bilingual Catalan/Spanish students were tested towards the end of Secondary Education. The groups differed in AO (8 vs. 11 years), AT (16 vs.17) and AE (726 vs. 800 hours). They performed four different tasks: three oral (an interview, a storytelling and a roleplay) and one written (a composition). The tasks were analysed with measures extrinsic to the learners’ production. Firstly, their Lexical Frequency Profiles were computed with VocabProfile (Nation, 1995). Secondly, P_Lex (Meara, 2001) was used to assess the lexical richness of the texts. Furthermore, Anglo-Saxon and Greco-Latin Cognate indices were obtained for each of the tasks. Results show that an early AO does not necessarily suppose an advantage for Early Starters (ES), as Late Starters’ (LS) productive vocabularies are very similar to those of their younger peers.

Palabra Clave , 2012,

This article examines female prostitution in the Valencia Region, initially from an economic perspective. Combining conjectures, secondary sources and new primary data, the size of the market for sex is estimated, strictly in terms of traditional indices: women engaged in prostitution (the offer), clients (demand), the number of sexual services which are in practice made available annually, the level of business turnover. Through a process of extrapolation it is calculated that in the whole of Spain there are less than 100,000 women in the sector and annual turnover is less than 2,5 billion euros. These are figures which are much lower than those which are normally accepted as accurate for the purpose of socio political discussion (that is 300,000 women and 18 billion euros). The article concludes by reflecting upon the reasons for these differences and discussing intervention policies. It is particularly important to distinguish between prostitution practised under criminal pressure and that which is structurally generated.
