International Research Journal of Pharmacy , 2013, DOI: 10.7897/2230-8407.04338
Abstract: Different dosage forms namely tablets, capsules, creams and syrups were analysed for curcumin content, by the well-known spectrophotometric method. Turmeric extract powder was used as a source of curcumin in capsule and tablet formulations. Turmeric oleoresin was used as a source of curcumin in cream formulation. Additionally, syrup formulations containing turmeric extract powder as well as turmeric oleoresin, separately, were also tested for their curcumin contents. Analytical results for curcumin content were found to be satisfactory in tablets and capsules containing turmeric extract powder. Whereas, in case of syrup containing turmeric extract powder, analytical findings for curcumin content, did not meet the expected specifications. However, when turmeric powder was replaced by the same quantity of oleoresin having similar strength, in cream and syrup, the results met the expected values, at the initial stages. But analysis data over a period of 1Year testing, showed declination in the initial findings due to unstability of turmeric oleoresin for long duration.

Cost-effectiveness of childbirth strategies for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV among mothers receiving nevirapine in India

Indian Journal of Community Medicine , 2010,
Abstract: Background: Mother-to-child transmission of HIV is an important mode of spread of HIV in India. With strategies like caesarian section and nevirapine therapy, this spread has been reduced. However, they have costs attached. In this context, this paper attempts to compare the cost-effectiveness of alternative childbirth strategies among HIV-positive mothers receiving nevirapine. Materials and Methods: Using sentinel surveillance data from three districts in Tamil Nadu, a model was created to test the cost-effectiveness of vaginal delivery against elective caesarian section among mothers receiving nevirapine. Sensitivity analysis was applied to evaluate cost per HIV infection prevented. Results: Vaginal delivery is not only cheaper in HIV-infected mothers receiving nevirapine but also cost-effective as compared to elective caesarian section. The incremental cost for preventing an additional HIV infection through caesarian section was Rs. 76,000. Sensitivity analysis reveals that the findings are robust over a range of HIV transmission probabilities, 0.04-0.14 for vaginal delivery and 0.00-0.02 for caesarian section. Conclusions: From a clinical perspective, the findings suggest that pregnant HIV-infected women receiving nevirapine should consider the benefits of a cheaper and safer vaginal delivery. From an economic perspective, the findings support the strategy of vaginal delivery in mothers receiving nevirapine.

Cutting Edge Practices For Secure Software Engineering
Kanchan Hans
International Journal of Computer Science and Security , 2010,
Abstract: Security has become a high priority issue in software engineering. But, it is generally given a side thought. Security features are implemented after engineering the whole software. This paper discusses that security should be implemented right from the inception of software and planned for each phase of SDLC in software Engineering. The paper also suggests recommendations for implementing security at each phase of life cycle of software. If each phase of the software engineering includes the appropriate security analysis, defenses and countermeasures, it will definitely result in a more robust and reliable software.
A SURVEY-CLASSIFIER FUSION

Journal of Global Research in Computer Science , 2012,
Abstract: A number of classifier fusion methods have been recently developed opening an alternative approach leading to a potential improvement in the classification performance. As there is little theory of information fusion itself, currently we are faced with different methods designed for different problems and producing different results. This paper presents the survey of various classification technique for getting the optimal result applying with fusion technique. Classification is the example of supervised learning. Classification is a data mining function that assigns items in a collection to target categories or classes. The goal of classification is to accurately predict the target class for each case in the data .many classification technique are used for improving the accuracy of the classifier such as k-nearest neighbor (knn), support vector machine (svm), clustering etc. The growth of rate of data increses in current decade. The internet genrate huge amount of unstuctured data, the whole data contains of text, document, vedio and image. The gropping of data required the classification .The classification as a part of supervised learning, in this technique the gropping of data occur in a guided fashion. We insentively review various research and journal paper related to data classification used such different methodology such technique are knn(k-nearest neighbour), svm(support vector machine), clustering and classification. In recent research data mining evolved a new emerging technique such a technique is called DATA FUSION.
A SURVEY ON CONTENT BASED IMAGE RETRIEVAL USING BDIP,BVLC AND DCD

Journal of Global Research in Computer Science , 2012,
Abstract: Content based image retrieval is the task of retrieve the images from the large collection of database on the basis of their own visual content. This paper provides the survey of technical achievements in the research area of image retrieval, especially content based image retrieval (CBIR. Color and texture are commonly used in most of the CBIR system for finding similar images from the database to a given query image. In the implemented system color and texture are used as basic features to describe all the images. To extract color information, two histograms i.e. hue and saturation of the image are used. And to extract texture information image quantization and wavelet decomposition is applied to each image blocks. CBIR or Content Based Image Retrieval is the retrieval of images based on visual features such as colour and shape. IN this paper we survey on the color and texture feature. NEONATAL PERFORATED APPENDICITIS
Kanchan Kayastha
Journal of Neonatal Surgery , 2012,
Abstract: Acute appendicitis is a rare cause of acute abdomen in neonates. The funnel shaped wide base of appendix, liquid diet and recumbent position of the neonates are less likely to cause acute appendicitis. It is extremely difficult to make a diagnosis of acute appendicitis in neonates due to non specific signs and symptoms that usually result in perforation of the appendix.
Flagship species approach: are we heading on the right track?

Conservation Science , 2013, DOI: 10.3126/cs.v1i1.9585
Abstract: Aim The paper aims to evaluate the usefulness of the Flagship Species Approach (FSA) as a conservation strategy. Location The study was conducted primarily among the conservation practitioners working with the flagship species in Nepal. Material and Methods Using a structured questionnaire, a total of 89 conservationists from three different categories of conservation agencies: government, nongovernmental organizations, and intellectuals (academics and researchers), were asked about their views regarding the FSA in bringing conservation benefits and reducing the biodiversity threats. I used non-parametric tests for analyzing the data. Key findings A majority of respondents shared the view that the FSA is being used effectively in raising funds for conservation and in bringing awareness to people and enhancing conservation of other species. Level of satisfaction pertaining to FSA, however, differed among the governmental / nongovernmental organizations and the intellectual agencies. Conservation implications This study found that FSA had been instrumental in raising the funds for biodiversity conservation and keeping the science in the forerunner. Open Journal of Organic Polymer Materials (OJOPM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojopm.2012.22006
Abstract: Polymer blend electrolytes, where PEO-PMMA polymer blend is used as polymer host matrix, doped with AgNO3 and plasticized with ethylene carbonate (EC) and Al2O3 as nano-filler were synthesized using the solution cast techniques. The polymer films were characterized by impedance spectroscopy, XRD, DSC, SEM, FT-IR and ionic transport mea-surements. The results indicate an enhancement in conductivity of PEO-PMMA-AgNO3-EC polymer electrolytes. The ionic conductivity of the polymer films is also found to increase with temperature. Electrical properties of polymer films in the framework of dielectric and modulus formalism are studied and discussed
