The underlying complex network of the Minority Game

Abstract: We study the structure of the underlying network of connections in the Minority Game. There is not an explicit interaction among the agents, but they interact via global magnitudes of the model and mainly through their strategies. We define a link between two agents by quantifying the similarity among their strategies, and analyze the structure of the resulting underlying complex networks as a function of the number of agents in the game and the value of the agents' memory, in games with two strategies per player. We characterize the different phases of this system with networks with different properties, for this link definition. Thus, the Minority Game phase characterized by the presence of crowds can be identified with a small world network, while the phase with the same results as a random decision game as a random network. Finally, we use the Full Strategy Minority Game model, to explicitly calculate some properties of its networks, such as the degree distribution, for the same link definition, and to estimate, from them, the properties of the networks of the Minority Game, obtaining a very good agreement with its measured properties.
Minority Game: a mean-field-like approach

Abstract: We calculate the standard deviation of (N1-N0), the difference of the number of agents choosing between the two alternatives of the minority game. Our approach is based on two approximations: we use the whole set of possible strategies, rather than only those distributed between the agents involved in a game; moreover, we assume that a period-two dynamics discussed by previous authors is appropiate within the range of validity of our work. With these approximations we introduce a set of states of the system, and are able to replace time averages by ensamble averages over these states. Our results show very good agreement with simulations results for most part of the informationally efficient phase.
The Minority Game with interactions

Abstract: We partially modify the rules of the Minority Game (MG) by introducing some degree of local information in the game, which is only available for some agents, called the interacting agents. Our work shows that, for small values of the new parameter of the model (the fraction of interacting agents), there is an improvement of the use of the resources with respect to the MG, while as this number grows the response of the system changes, and ends up behaving worst than the usual MG.

Abstract: Este artículo ofrece una nueva perspectiva sobre las teorías económicas expuestas por Keynes. Keynes afirmaba correctamente que en un sistema bancario de reserva fraccional, la oferta no puede crear su propia demanda cuando los agentes mantienen depósitos a plazo y de ahorro como reserva de largo plazo y los empresarios desinvierten capital. Hay dos problemas fundamentales. El primero, la desinversión crea una separación entre la oferta ex-ante y el ingreso del periodo corriente; el segundo, el sector bancario no puede transferir recursos reales, por lo tanto, no puede intermediar los ahorros. De esta manera, la economía requiere inyecciones de demanda, financiadas por deuda bancaria, si se requiere mantener la actividad económica.
Ion acceleration enhancement in laser-generated plasmas by metallic doped hydrogenated polymers

Abstract: Laser-generated plasmas in vacuum were obtained by ablating hydrogenated polymers at the Physics Department of the University of Messina and at the PALS Laboratory in Prague. In the first case a 3 ns,532 nm Nd:Yag laser, at 1010 W/cm2 intensity was employed.In the second case a 300 ps, 438 nm iodine laser, at 5x1014W/cm2 intensity was employed. Different ion collectors were usedin a time-of-flight configuration to monitor the ejected ions from theplasma at different angles with respect to the direction normal tothe target surface. Measurements demonstrated that the mean ionvelocity, directed orthogonally to the target surface, increases forablation of polymers doped with metallic elements with respect tothe nondoped one. The possible mechanism explaining theresults can be found in the different electron density of theplasma, due to the higher number of electrons coming from the dopingelements. This charge enhancement increases the equivalent ionvoltage acceleration, i.e. the electric field generated in the non-equilibrium plasma placed in front of the ablated target surface.
The Full Strategy Minority Game

Abstract: The Full Strategy Minority Game (FSMG) is an instance of the Minority Game (MG) which includes a single copy of every potential agent. In this work, we explicitly solve the FSMG thanks to certain symmetries of this game. Furthermore, by considering the MG as a statistical sample of the FSMG, we compute approximated values of the key variable {\sigma}2/N in the symmetric phase for different versions of the MG. As another application we prove that our results can be easily modified in order to handle certain kind of initial biased strategies scores, in particular when the bias is introduced at the agents' level. We also show that the FSMG verifies a strict period two dynamics (i.e., period two dynamics satisfied with probability 1) giving, to the best of our knowledge, the first example of an instance of the MG for which this feature can be analytically proved. Thanks to this property, it is possible to compute in a simple way the probability that a general instance of the MG breaks the period two dynamics for the first time in a given simulation.

There is also a 'frames' version, which has a permanent clickable alphabet at the top of each page.The site is updated regularly, and most recently on 17 October 1999.The 'how to navigate' section on the 'welcome' page explains how the site is structured and how it can best be navigated. Abstract: All pages have a menu at the top, making navigation around the site relatively easy. The pages are very long though, and within pages (except the homepage) there are no 'back to the top' links. Links that are accompanied by an asterisk lead to the appropriate alphabetical section of the dictionary, but not to the relevant entry itself. Also, there are a few internal page links that do not work.The site was last updated 25 November 1997.There is extensive linking to and from the dictionary across the site and this enables visitors to read the topics in any order.Individual pages are too long.A third layer of pages to cut down on length would be useful. Ribozymes as tools for the analysis of gene function

Abstract: It is relatively easy to navigate through the site as it consists of only three pages. There are, however, no 'back to...' links so the back button of the browser has to be used instead. The external links for the software program described do not work, and neither do some of the links to cited literature. None of the small images within the text displayed, but the links to the larger versions of the images all worked.The site was last updated 30 April 1997.This is the best comprehensive information on ribozymes available on-line, and is supported by explanatory graphics.Apart from the lack of updates, there is no real site structure and many links are broken. Some of the graphics are too large to be printed without becoming truncated.The site needs a thorough update to repair the broken links, especially the external ones. It would also benefit from the addition of links to other important papers on the subject, and a general update to include recent developments.The determinants of ribozyme and antisense activity in the cell
