HAYATI Journal of Biosciences , 2011,
Abstract: Methylotrophs inhabit the human mouth. In this study, methylotrophic bacteria were isolated from the human mouth microflora of 63 subjects, especially from the tongue, gingival, and subgingival area using minimal agar supplemented with 1% methanol. The obtained isolates were subjected to biochemical assays, continued with antibiotics susceptibility testing using ampicillin (10 g), tetracycline (20 g), kanamycin (30 g), trimethoprim (5 g), and streptomycin (10 g). Genetic diversity was analyzed using ARDRA method. Isolates varying in morphology characteristics were amplified for 16S rRNA gene and continued with DNA sequencing. As many as 21 methylotrophic bacterial isolates were purified and divided into seven groups with different phenotypic profiles. A majority of the isolates were resistant to trimethoprim but sensitive to kanamycin, streptomycin, and tetracycline. Resistance to ampicillin was variable in each isolate. ARDRA showed nine different digestion profiles. DNA sequencing analysis of the 16S rRNA gene showed that six isolates with different phenotypic and digestion profiles were closely related to Methylobacterium radiotoleran (94%), Microbacterium esteraromaticum (99%), Pseudomonas sp. (100%), and three of them were exhibited 99, 99, and 98% sequence similarity with Gordonia sp., respectively. The results of this study revealed diversity among methylotrophic bacteria particularly in human mouth.

Natural Science (NS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ns.2013.57100
Abstract:

The cerebellum has been classically considered as the subcortical center for motor control. However, accumulating experimental evidence has revealed that it also plays an important role in cognition, for instance, in learning and memory, as well as in emotional behavior and nonsomatic activities, such as visceral and immunological responses.

Acta Medica Medianae , 2004,
Abstract: Handball is a very popular game all over the world and in SCG as well. Popularity of this game stems from successful play of our male and female handball national team on European, World Competition and on Olympic games.Technically and tactically this game more and more resembles the male handball. The process of training is close to the very edge of female abilities, so we have dynamic game full of duel, long shots and spectacular goals.The aim of this research is to confirm differences of developing characteristics and state of nutrition of male and female handball players at our national competition. The research encircled 20 male and 20 female handball players, members of handball club RK elezni ar" and RK DIN" from Ni .The results show that the average height of male handball players is 190,64 cm and that body mass comes to 96,60 kg. Average height of female handball players is 173, 53 cm, and body mass is 64,81 kg. The difference between male and female height is 17 cm, and difference in body mass between male and female team is 32 kg.
Housing, Health, and Ageing in Texas Colonias and Informal Subdivisions  [PDF]
Francisca Bogolasky, Peter M. Ward
Current Urban Studies (CUS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/cus.2018.61004
Abstract:
Literature on housing and health outcomes among the elderly generally covers issues such as the relationship between housing quality and health; the intersection between place and space at different stages in the life course; and the impact of public policy to mitigate negative morbidity and mental health outcomes. However, there is little research about the ways in which certain types of informally developed neighborhoods such as colonias and informal homestead subdivisions offer micro-level spaces and housing arrangements that are conducive to family building, household extension, and care for aging parents, but which also have negative outcomes especially for the elderly by exacerbating certain chronic health problems and impaired mobility. In short, space and place matters. This paper provides an overview of the literature on the intersection between housing and health, and drawing upon Texas survey data we explore how low-income (largely) Hispanic households access home ownership through informal homesteading and self-help in two informal subdivisions in Central Texas. Viewed across the life course, this colonia-type housing is associated with a number of particular negative health and mobility impacts especially among the elderly, while at the same time providing an affordable and socially embedded residential alternative of living through old age.

Open Journal of Preventive Medicine (OJPM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojpm.2014.46057
Abstract:

Introduction: Adaptation to changes that occur with diabetes mellitus is often accompanied by a variety of negative emotional responses, including anger, guilt, frustration, denial, and loneliness. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess psychological domain of quality of life for people with diabetes mellitus in relation to some of the socio-demographic variables. Methods: The study included 150 patients with diabetes mellitus from October 2011 until June 2012 year, using the questionnaire for quality of life of the World Health Organization (WHOQOL-BREF). Results: Mean score for psychological health domain was 56.28 (± 14.88), without statistically significant difference in relation to sex and with a statistic significant difference decreased with increasing of age (F = 6.715, p = 0.000) and increased with the level of education (F = 7.958, p = 0.000). Negative emotions, such as blue mood, despair, anxiety, depression were present in almost 1/2 of the respondents, “often” (32.7%), “very often” (11.3%) and “always” (4.0%) without statistically significant difference in relation to gender, age and level of education. Discussion: Mean scores for psychological health domain were lower in older and less educated patients. Conclusion: Negative feelings were present in all patients indicating the need for preventive action to soften and reduce these negative feelings.

Prototipo de texto académico como producto de la actividad metalingüística del docente de la UPEL
Fumero,Francisca;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2008,
Abstract: the present research had as a goal designing constructing a prototype of an academic text written. the idea was to help teachers, from universidad pedagógica experimental libertador-instituto pedagógico de maracay, to start, complete and divulge their research by creating a set of guidelines. many academic papers presuppose a reader familiar with the scientific discipline. this research used the qualitative paradigm under the hermeneutic method. in addition, it was framed by the special project model. in order to carry out the research twelve volunteer teachers from upel-maracay in the study. the only condition to be part of the study was to be a regular active or retired teacher. the prototype was tested by writing texts to be used as conference papers. the prototype is based on: a) the teacher?s need to create a textual product that serves the pragmatic function; and b) the possibility of offering methodological instructions in order to write a text.
Aplicación del concepto ?colonia de géneros? a un estudio aproximativo en la ense?anza de los textos instruccionales
Fumero,Francisca;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2006,
Abstract: this article evaluates applying the concept of gender to teaching through different instructional text. as a first step the classification of such text is based upon the human need to categorized information according to the cultural context and the multiple situations in which communication occurs (halliday, 1991; swales, 1990; berkenkotter y huckin, 1995; bathia, 2002/2004). in this particular case, the instructional text ocupéis a significant place in human daily routines. this fact determines the need to define their contextual focus based on three properties: efficiency, effectiveness, and adequacy. (beaugrande y dressler, 2003). the investigation proposes, first, a methodology that departs from de need to analyze the situation in which communication takes place and, second, an understanding of the teaching of the mother tongue taking into account the genders used by the discursive community. the study concludes arguing that the texts (specially the instructional ones) are constructed as gender examples that respond appropriately to specific social conventions.
