Environmental and Cost Comparative Analyses between Generator set and Solar as Alternative Energy Sources-NITEL Repeater Stations a Case Study

Abstract: Energy and development are two things that are closely related; as energy availability increases, the rate of socio-economic development of a nation will equally increase and vice versa. The challenge in most developing nations of the world, including Nigeria, today is non-availability of appropriate electricity supply. In solving this problem, the use of generator sets has become the order of the day. Unfortunately, its uses rather than bringing the desired solution, has been a major source of environmental problem in recent times. To prevent this, a better alternate energy source that is cost effect and environmental hazard free must be encouraged worldwide. This study, therefore, takes a look at the environmental and cost effectiveness of using diesel generator set and solar as alternative energy sources using Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL) Plc, as a case study. The study revealed the huge amount of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon (IV) Oxide (CO2), Sulphur (IV) Oxide (SO2) and particulates being emitted annually into the atmosphere by two repeater stations of this company alone. Also, through the cost comparative analysis carried out in this study, it was found that over 40% of the company`s expenditure on diesel and maintenance of the generator would have been saved if solar was being used. Hence, the study established the fact that the use of solar is more economical and environmentally safer than generator set. The paper concludes with suggestion on how to encourage world energy-environmental friendly policy as well as how to avert the adverse effects of total exhaustion of non-renewable energy for socio-economic development.

Abstract: ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The article addresses how the flow rates of an extruder can be optimized. It mentions the plastic recycling industry as an example, which is only one of many solid waste recycling industries. The literature on flow rates is reviewed to demonstrate a gap that the current study aims to fills, in the hope that it will stimulate further research in a fertile area. Abstract: ENGLISH ABSTRACT:In this article the principles of industrial engineering are applied to maximize the profitability of the recycling industry. A case in the plastic recycling industry is presented to demonstrate the practical application of the financial calculation functions developed in the paper. In particular, the profitability maximization concept for the plastic recycling industry was examined, based on the theory of demand and supply. By estimating the profit realizable on regular as well as high product demand, part of the objective of the paper was achieved. Inventory principles were further applied to determine optimum inventory levels. Syntheses and Physicochemical Studies of Manganese (II) Aminobenzoates and Their Adducts

Abstract: The complexes of Mn (II) aminobenzoates of the form [Mn(ABzt)2X2], {Abzt = o-NH2C6H4COO- X = C6H5NH2, C6H5NHCH3, C6H5N(CH3)2 C6H5N and p-NH2C5H4N} have been synthesized and characterized by microanalysis room temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements infrared and electronic reflectance spectral studies. In the complexes studied, some weak bands were observed in the region 26,000-29,000 and 18,000-19,000 cm 1. These have been assigned to the 6A1g(G) 4T2g(G)and 6A1g(G) 4T1g(G) transitions, respectively. This pair is highly indicative of an octahedral geometry.
Extension Workers’ Information Technology Use Characteristics and Training Needs in Nigeria

Abstract: This study examines the ICT (Internet and CD Rom) use competencies of extension agents in Oyo State with the ultimate aim of establishing their level of appreciation of their importance for extension and rural development work and to identify their training and information needs. All extension agents in Oyo and Ogbomoso zones of the state were studied using questionnaire designed to elicit information from the respondents. Descriptive statistics namely frequencies and percentages were adopted in analyzing the data collected in the study. Findings in the study revealed that majority of the respondents do visit the internet, however, mainly for personal reasons. Only a small proportion uses it for professional purposes; similarly, most of them lacked the competence in the use of internet services. They were mostly assisted; however, they appreciate and are committed to being exposed to training and information in computer use, internet and CD-Rom operations for both extension and general academic information acquisition for professional development.
Information systems and technology in the marketing of railway transport

Abstract: The aim of the article. The aim of the article is to improve the system of theoretical, methodological and methodic background for the implementation of information technology in the marketing system of the railway undertaking. The article identifies the necessity of marketing use in companies which are natural monopolies. Besides the general system of railway transport is described and its place in the marketing system is defined. The existing deficiencies of marketing system have been detected.The results of the analysis. The main computerized control systems, which have been introduced into the system of marketing services in the field of railway transport, were given full consideration in recent years. In particular it has been examined the integration of the automated control system into the system of services associated with freight and the transition from paper to electronic transport documents. Such advantages of system for consumers were determined: time reduction, the possibility of clearance from any station and information received in the automatic mode concerning the freight traffic. The organizational transformation that took place on the railway transport as a result of the specified system integration was considered. The need to create such system for freight crossing the border was defined.System of passenger train tickets sale online in Ukraine has been considered the and its basic shortcomings, including the inability to print previously reserved ticket and the complexity and incomprehensibility of ticket purchase technology online for the consumers was found. The experience of sales system delivering of the passenger railway services has been examined in different European countries and it has been found out that in many countries for tickets sales is used modern information technology: the Internet, via mobile communications, with start-card, etc.Moreover a comparative analysis of web-sites of the Ukrainian and foreign railways has been carried out and the main disadvantages of Ukrainian site were found. The analyzed demand for information regarding the Ukrainian railway website using the Yandex statistical service search system revealed that consumers are mainly looking for information on timetables and possible ticket purchase online. The amount of requests for these services is growing.It has also been revealed that the site of Ukrainian carrier to a greater extent performs rather the function of marketing, than promotion. Investigation of Plum pox virus in Different Tissues of Apricot and Plum Trees

Abstract: In order to investigate Plum pox virus (PPV) in different tissues of infected apricot and plum trees, 50 samples per infected tree were collected from 5 apricot and 5 plum trees infected with PPV-M and D strains between 2002 and 2004. In addition, 25 apricot and 25 plum seeds taken from severely infected trees in order to investigation transmission of PPV through seeds. The detection of PPV was carried out using indirect ELISA. The virus was detected in bark, some flower parts (sepal, petal and stamen), pits (only in apricots) and fruits. However, the virus was not found in pollens, gynoeciums, seeds and seedlings. It is appears that pollens and seeds did not play role in natural spread of PPV in Ankara, Turkey.
The Effect of Plastic Deformation and Magnesium Content on the Mechanical Properties of 6063 Aluminium Alloys  [PDF]

Abstract: In order to determine the effect of increased magnesium addition on the strengthening behaviour during deformation, four types of aluminium alloys were cast and rolled. The cast aluminium alloys contain; 0.451%Mg, 0.551%Mg, 0.651%Mg, and 0.751%Mg in addition to the other elements which are constant. Deformation was carried out at 20% and 40%. The hot worked profiles were machined into tensile test specimen and were subjected to tensile test. The result was used to determine the ultimate tensile strength and the percentage elongation. From the results, it was observed that the tensile properties of the aluminium alloys improved with increase in percentage deformation and magnesium content up to 0.651%Mg. This shows the effect of deformation on grain refinement. At high percentage of deformation and increased magnesium content, the grains are more refined and this improves the strength and the mechanical properties. However, at 0.751%Mg, a decrease in the tensile properties was observed as deformation is no more effective. The result shows that there is a limit to the amount of magnesium content that will give the optimum mechanical properties.

Abstract: Pulverised stem fibres of the natural sponge plant, SP, (Acanthus montanus) and stranded coconut fibre, CF, (Cocos nucifera) from the coir tree were used as reinforcements for thin cement sheets in this research work. The mixture of cement and pulverised waste paper, which formed the matrix, was maintained constant while the fibre mass concentration of both fibres were varied. The slurry formed by adding water to the mixture of the matrix materials and the reinforcement fibres, was poured into rectangular mould and consequently pressed to eject excess water. De-moulded samples were allowed to cure in the laboratory for twenty-eight days before flexural and compressive tests were carried out. The analysis of the experimental results established that sample coded as S4, with 30% CF and 70% SP, showed the most promising result. This implied that particulate reinforcement in cement matrix composite contributed to higher and improved flexural load bearing capacity and ductility when utilised in a higher proportion than long fibres.

Abstract: The effect of ageing temperature on the mechanical properties of Al-Mg-Si alloy has been studied. The material was machined into different shapes of the tests to be carried out: tensile, impact and hardness. The test specimens were divided into two and, some sets were solution treated at 500℃ for one hour and peak aged at 160℃ for eight hours while the other sets were solution treated at 500℃ for one hour and peak aged at 180℃ for eight hours. The abovementioned tests were carried out on the specimens. The results show that at low ageing temperature of 160℃, the ductility and impact were high while at 180℃, the ultimate tensile strength and hardness are higher compared to the value obtained at 160℃.
