Gallardo I,Francisco;
Estudios atacame?os , 2007, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-10432007000100008
Abstract: the film a la sombra del sol, of silvio caiozzi and pablo perelman, screening in 1974, is about a crime that happened at the end of the 40s in caspana, a village in northern chile. among the most powerful reality effects of the film, is the participation of the local population. such an effect -a resource of italian neorealist cinema- in association with an image characteristic of the documentary genre let the film crew make the script appear as a real event in history. in the interstices of the film, however, a visual and cultural mode of expression that had already arrived to its end was recorded. in the moving image of the native atácamenos inhabits the visible print of that "new man" that a few months before the film's screening conveyed the utopia of a socialist revolution

Abstract: units of designs or motifs have dominated the studies of rock art, leaving aside those arrangements that are organized into larger units. in this article, offers some operational definitions and suggested that the study of these configurations allow the opening of a new field of archaeological interpretation. for this purpose here are considered rock art of chilean territory, a starting point for a discussion that will surely exceed those limits.

Abstract: objective: to describe opinions and attitudes concerning sexuality of the brazilian urban population. methods: a population survey was carried out in 2005 on a representative sample of 5,040 interviewees. an analysis of the attitudes regarding sexual initiation and sexual education of teenagers, considering gender, age, schooling, income, marital status, color, geographic region and opinion on fidelity, homosexuality, and masturbation. the results were contrasted with a similar survey carried out in 1998, when possible. results: most interviewees selected the "sex is evidence of love" option when describing the meaning of sex. as in 1998, the majority was in favor of sexual initiation after marriage (63.9% for women vs. 52.4% for men initiation); results differed among religions. school teenage education on the use of condoms was supported by 97% of the interviewees across all social groups. the proportion of brazilians who agreed with having access to condoms in health services (95%) and at school (83.6%) was high. fidelity remained an almost unanimous value and there was an increase, in 2005, in the proportion of those in favor of sexual initiation after marriage, and in the rate of acceptance of masturbation and homosexuality compared to the 1998 survey. the younger generations tend to be more tolerant and equalitarian. conclusions: as observed in other countries, this study confirms the difficulty in establishing a single dimension that guides sexual life ("liberal" vs "conservative"). the study suggests that the normativity concerning sexual activity should be understood in the light of the local culture and social organization of sexuality, considered by the std/aids programs. opinions in favor of free access to preservatives at school clash with the slower results obtained in fighting the stigma and discriminating against homosexual minorities. the design of laical policies on sexuality allow for the dialog across different perspectives.

Bertoni, José;Pastana, Francisco I.;
Bragantia , 1964, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051964000100001
Abstract: data on rainfall, soil erosion and water losses from runoff plots were recorded for a 10-year period in four experiment stations, campinas, ribeir?o prêto, pindorama, and mococa. correlation studies were made between the soil and water losses, and total rainfall; also, the data were examined in relation to the 5, 15, 30, and 60-minute rain intensity in millimeters per hour. rainfall intensity and distribution influenced the intensity and total volume of soil and water losses induced by erosion. however, no definite relationship could be established based on the collected data. it is suggested that future studies, including determinations of soil humidity prior to rains (api - antecedent precipitation index), rainfall duration and kinetic energy of rainfall drops, might show a clearer relationship.
Cumsille,Francisco; Bangdiwala,Shrikant I.;
Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1020-49892000001000005
Abstract: frequently during the process of data analysis in epidemiological studies, the scale of one or more continuous variables is changed. the objective of this paper was to assess the consequences of categorizing variables during data analysis. we studied three situations with different scenarios for statistical analysis with regression models. the results show that dichotomizing continuous variables can substantially modify the relationships between dependent and independent variables. thus, for example, in epidemiological studies trying to evaluate the effect of an exposure on a response, the magnitude and/or the direction of this effect can be biased by dichotomizing a variable. we therefore recommend avoiding, as much as possible, the categorization of variables when doing analyses.

Abstract: we sinthetisize a conception of sustainable development previously stated by us, based on a multidimensional (social, economic and environmental) perspective, and signed by a specific political-social departure, as well as a critic vision of the hegemonic "green" sustainability concepts.
