Empty Soul Syndrome  [PDF]
José Humberto Cardoso Resende
Journal of Behavioral and Brain Science (JBBS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jbbs.2018.81002
Abstract: It is a syndrome with a set of signs and symptoms distinct from depression or panic syndrome, which is not characterized by the fear of dying, but by the desire to die in the form of suicide or in another quick way. Unlike depression or panic, it occurs more frequently between 60 and 80 years of age, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, which puts Brazil in eighth place among the countries with the highest incidence of suicides in the age range of 70 years. The report estimates a death every 40 seconds in the world, with India ranking first among the countries surveyed, according to the United Nations agency, in the WHO 2012 registries. It can occur in any person, regardless of color, religion, social class or schooling, being more common, however, among men, in the ratio of nine men to two women. It is very common among health practitioners or the self-employed. Causes are related to the general delusion involving body and mind, focusing on the lack of care. By the description of the dictionary, soul is the union of body and spirit, which some prefer to call mind. “Empty Soul” represents the lack of the very essence of life, a total void of wills, a finding of abandonment. For these symptoms or illness, the treatment has followed the line of “antidepressants” aimed at the reuptake of serotonin, such as SSRIs, MAOIs, anxiolytics (benzodiazepines) and painless techniques that reach the brain, used in neurology and psychiatry. We suggest, as a therapeutic idea, the realization of “Healing Workshops”, with the support being given in the form of meetings with motivational orientations, through positive stimuli, daily and constant psychotherapies, which the client will attend until cure is verified. This degree of disorder has presented in alarming proportions, especially after 2015. This work is justified by to the dramaticity of the deaths, such as: knife, shot, fall of great height, hunger strikes and forced isolation in prisons or kidnappings. In addition, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has estimated, for the year 2025, in Brazil, a population of 32 million elderly people. This manuscript reports signs and symptoms presented by patients who thought it was not worthwhile to continue living.
Expans?o da agricultura e sua vincula??o com o processo de urbaniza??o na Regi?o Nordeste/Brasil (1990-2010)
EURE (Santiago) , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612012000200007
Abstract: the process of brazilian urbanization has changed in the last twenty years. studies in the regional economy have pointed to the strong influence of the expansion of export agriculture in areas of the border as a major determinant of the new urban dynamics in the period 1990-2008. statistics are used to describe the expansion of agriculture in the area of savannah in northeastern brazil, and to examine the possible effects it had on the process of urbanization in the period. the analysis of the effects of urbanization due to the expansion of agriculture is a consequence of growth for soybean exports to adjacent areas of the provinces of bahia (western bahia), maranh?o (south maranh?o) and piauí (southern piauí). we conclude that the pattern of urbanization in the northeast is characterized by a dynamic urban peripheral consequence of deepening social and spatial heterogeneity in recent years.
Notas breves de uma visita ao futuro do primeiro rei de Portugal com comentário ao catálogo da exposi??o ?D. Afonso - Marca Registada?
Etnográfica , 2010,
Abstract: following a visit to the exhibition d. afonso? (centro cultural vila flor, guimar?es, 2009) which presented many diverse appropriations creatively made of the first portuguese king?s image, a reflection about its visual impact is proposed. therefore, the text turns out to be a brief ethnography of the visit with reference to the displayed materials (visible and non-visible ones), whereas reflections?/?questions are suggested on how the portuguese history and the main characters of portuguese history are (and may be) remembered, told and (co)modified.
A poiêtikê technê como instrumento meta-filosófico
Brito, Humberto;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2012000100003
Abstract: i will argue that aristotle's inquiry into poiêtikê technê should be taken as an inquiry into a meta-philosophical vocabulary. i claim that the main advantage of such a vocabulary is that of making explicit a conceptual contiguity between a number of problems concerning action theory, rationality, collective cognition, as well as that of affording indirect intelligibility to how human communities share dispositions.
Vaccination of Callithrix jacchus (Linné, 1758) marmosets with the PF strain of Trypanosoma cruzi
Menezes, Humberto;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1981, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761981000200004
Abstract: callithrix jacchus marmosets, vaccinated more than once with high doses of the pf strain of trypanosoma cruzi, showed a certain degree of parasitemia related to the number of parasites injected. thirty days after vaccination, all animals were alive and showed no apparent morbid symptoms. the relationship between the dose of injected trypanosomes and the observed parasitemias is discussed and analysed as well as the immunologic incompetence of the experimental animals used.
Sobre a isomeriza??o do ácido Górlico (C18H30O2)
Cardoso, Humberto;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1942, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761942000200001
Abstract: the present note describes the results of the investigation concerning the possibility of the isomerization of gorlic acid. gorlic acid has been isolated on 1938 by cole & cardoso (1) and since then a few experiments have been made regarding its particular biological properties. during such researches it was noted a reaction with nitrous acid, similar to that of oleic acid, which has been mencioned on previous paper (6). using the bertram selenium method it has been possible to show that gorlic acid would not change to an isomeric form, i.e., no evidence of ?elaidinization? was found. the reaction with nitous acid can be explained by the impurification due to the presence of oleic acid in a very small amount which could not been removed from gorlic acid.
El lugar propio de la utopía
Atenea (Concepción) , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-04622005000100002
Abstract: utopia is not ?mortal? since it is a subjective expression of an ideology. and ideologies don?t die: they only change, become oppositional, succeed each other, become ?ideologized? (in the sense of absolutizing the value they propose). an example that can be prudently recognized today: the nationalist ideology with its absolutizing of the value of the ?patria?

Abstract: developing countries suffer from brain drain for many decades. industrialized countries have raised their barriers against immigrants, but have created mechanisms to attract foreign professionals, with aggressive policies to capture talents, in an effort to increase their competitiveness. to mitigate the effects of the migration of scientists, the universidad peruana cayetano heredia has created its own "return scholarship" about 12 years ago, and has repatriated 12 scientists through it. the funds invested in attracting the scholars total u.s. $ 333,540.00 and they have secured u.s. $ 9’249,828.42 in research funds during the same period, a figure over 27 times higher. they have published 8 articles in national journals, 68 internationally, and trained 29 undergraduate and 20 graduate students as thesis tutors. other universities and institutions of our countries can emulate this successful experience, which is still evolving.
