Fe2+ Coupled with Vitamin c (Vc) Can Enhance Glucose Metabolism and Decrease Blood Glucose Levels of Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Mice  [PDF]

Abstract:

That FeSO4 not FeCl3 can reduce the blood glucose levels of alloxan-induced diabetes mice has been reported in previous research. This study explained the cause of difference in activity of two different iron ions on diabetic mice based on glucose consumption (GC). FeSO4, FeCl3, Vitamine c (Vc), FeSO4 + Vc, metformin were administrated to the alloxan induced-diabetic mice, respectively. After administrated, serum glucose, fructosaminr, insulin, triglyceride, total cholesterol, total iron and Fe2+ levels and GC of liver in vivo were analyzed, respectively. In vitro, effect of different iron ions coupled with Vc or streptozotocin on GC of liver of diabetic mice of model group were analyzed. The body weights and serum insulin levels of Fe2+ and Fe2+ + Vc treated diabetic mice notably increased. The serum glucose, fructosamine, triglyceride and total cholesterol levels were significantly decreased, whereas serum total iron and Fe2+ levels and GC in liver were increased in the Fe2+, Vc and Fe2+ + Vc groups compared with in the model groups. In addition, hardly change of serum insulin level was caused by Fe2+, Vc and Fe2+ + Vc treatment. However, the similar resultst did not obtain a Fe3+ treated. Further, liver’s GC of untreated-diabetic mice was lower than of normal mice and significantly increased after Fe2+ not Fe3+ added to the reaction resolution in vitro, and further increased when Fe2+ and vitamin c (Vc) synchronously added to the reaction system, however, decreased when Fe2+ and Streptozotocin were added synchronously to the reaction resolution. It is suggested that iron coupled with reducer can enhance the glucose metabolism to eventually achieve to controlling blood glucose levels.


Linear-Combined-Code-Based Unambiguous Code Discriminator Design for Multipath Mitigation in GNSS Receivers

Abstract: Unambiguous tracking and multipath mitigation for Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) signals are two important requirements of modern Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) receivers. A GNSS discriminator design method based on optimization technique is proposed in this paper to meet these requirements. Firstly, the discriminator structure based on a linear-combined code is given. Then the requirements of ideal discriminator function are converted into the mathematical constraints and the objective function to form a non-linear optimization problem. Finally, the problem is solved and the local code is generated according to the results. The theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that the proposed method can completely remove the false lock points for BOC signals and provide superior multipath mitigation performance compared with traditional discriminator and high revolution correlator (HRC) technique. Moreover, the proposed discriminator is easy to implement for not increasing the number of correlators.
The proliferation promoting effects of MAG-2 on human lung cancer cell PLA801

Abstract: Background and objective Both tumor proliferation and metastasis are multistep processes with many genes involved. A novel gene MAG-2, which may have close correlation with lung cancer metastasis, was identified in our lab through approach of suppression subtractive hybridization using lung cancer cell strains with same origin but different metastatic potential as models. The objective of our works presented here is to investigate the proliferation related effects of MAG-2 on human lung-giant-cell line PLA801, and to explore the underlying molecular mechanism. Methods Sense and anti-sense expressing vector of MAG-2 were constructed and transfected into PLA801C and D cell respectively and the change of expressing levels of target gene in stable transfected cell strains was assayed by RT-PCR. The alteration in terms of proliferation and cytoplasm Ca2+ of the stable transfected cell strains and vector controls were tested by the methods of MTT and Fluo-3-Am staining. The proteins levels of p53 and mRNA levels of PCNA of different cell strains were analyzed by Western blot and RT-PCR. Results The stable transfected cell strains of CMAG2+, DMAG2- and their vector controls Cvector and Dvector were obtained. The MAG-2 mRNA levels of CMAG2+ and DMPAG2- were 7 and 0.6 times higher or lower comparing those of vector controls. MAG-2 could increase the mRNA level of PCNA and down-regulated the p53 protein in PLA801C strain. In consistent with PCNA's mRNA elevating, the proportion of S-phase cell in the mass was also increased. But the significant difference was not observed on MTT assay between CMAG2+ and its control, the reason might be due to the mutated p53, which had strong proliferation promoting effects, was also down-regulated by MAG-2's over-expression in PLA801C, and the levels of cytoplasm calcium in CMAG2+ had 1.05 times more than that of vector control. As to the PLA801D strain, the decreased expression of MAG-2 result in lower level of cytoplasm calcium (0.64 time of control's) and the cell proliferation was also restrained by means of MTT assay. Conclusion MAG-2 has taken part in the proliferation regulation of lung cancer cells PLA801, and the mechanism of its proliferation-related function maybe lie in its effects on cytoplasmic free calcium.
Engineering of Acetate Recycling and Citrate Synthase to Improve Aerobic Succinate Production in Corynebacterium glutamicum

Abstract: Corynebacterium glutamicum lacking the succinate dehydrogenase complex can produce succinate aerobically with acetate representing the major byproduct. Efforts to increase succinate production involved deletion of acetate formation pathways and overexpression of anaplerotic pathways, but acetate formation could not be completely eliminated. To address this issue, we constructed a pathway for recycling wasted carbon in succinate-producing C. glutamicum. The acetyl-CoA synthetase from Bacillus subtilis was heterologously introduced into C. glutamicum for the first time. The engineered strain ZX1 (pEacsA) did not secrete acetate and produced succinate with a yield of 0.50 mol (mol glucose)?1. Moreover, in order to drive more carbon towards succinate biosynthesis, the native citrate synthase encoded by gltA was overexpressed, leading to strain ZX1 (pEacsAgltA), which showed a 22% increase in succinate yield and a 62% decrease in pyruvate yield compared to strain ZX1 (pEacsA). In fed-batch cultivations, strain ZX1 (pEacsAgltA) produced 241 mM succinate with an average volumetric productivity of 3.55 mM h?1 and an average yield of 0.63 mol (mol glucose) ?1, making it a promising platform for the aerobic production of succinate at large scale.

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the feasibility, safety and the clinical value of primary suture following 3-port laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE). Methods: From January 2012 to September 2014, 176 patients suffered from choledocholithiasis were treated with primary suture following 3-port LCBDE and the clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All cases were operated successfully and none was converted to open surgery. The duration of operation was 92.2 ± 18.8 min and the length of postoperative hospital stay was 4.4 ± 3.7 d. Postoperative bile leakage occurred in 2 cases and these patients recovered by simple drainage for 3 to 7 days without re-operation. All patients recovered smoothly without any serious complications. Conclusions: Primary suture following 3-port LCBDE is safe, effective and mini-invasive, which is worthy of further clinical application.
Stellar color regression: a spectroscopy based method for color calibration to a few mmag accuracy and the recalibration of Stripe 82

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a spectroscopy based Stellar Color Regression (SCR) method to perform accurate color calibration for modern imaging surveys, taking advantage of millions of stellar spectra now available. The method is straightforward, insensitive to systematic errors in the spectroscopically determined stellar atmospheric parameters, applicable to regions that are effectively covered by spectroscopic surveys, and capable of delivering an accuracy of a few millimagnitudes for color calibration. As an illustration, we have applied the method to the SDSS Stripe 82 data (Ivezic et al; I07 hereafter). With a total number of 23,759 spectroscopically targeted stars, we have mapped out the small but strongly correlated color zero point errors present in the photometric catalog of Stripe 82, and improve the color calibration by a factor of 2 -- 3. Our study also reveals some small but significant magnitude dependence errors in z-band for some CCDs. Such errors are likely to be present in all the SDSS photometric data. Our results are compared with those from a completely independent test based on the intrinsic colors of red galaxies presented by I07. The comparison as well as other tests shows that the SCR method has achieved a color calibration internally consistent at a level of about 5 mmag in u-g, 3 mmag in g-r, and 2 mmag in r-i and i-z, respectively. Given the power of the SCR method, we discuss briefly the potential benefits by applying the method to existing, on-going, and up-coming imaging surveys.
Development of a Quasi-Periodic Undulator for the HLS

Abstract: China's first quasi-periodic undulator (QPU) has been developed for the Hefei Light Source (HLS). It uses a magnetic configuration with varied thicknesses of NdFeB blocks, based on the QPU of European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). Depression of 3rd harmonic radiation is significantly improved over the ESRF QPU, as deduced from the measured magnetic fields. A method of configuring shims of different geometries and sizes, based on a symmetric principle to correct multi-pole field integrals, was demonstrated.
Development of A Modified Quasi-periodic Undulator for HLS

Abstract: A modified quasi periodic undulator (QPU) is developed and to be installed at Hefei Light Source (HLS).Magnet dimensions optimization is applied. High harmonics contamination is eliminated from the fundamental emission effectively according to the field tests. The depression ratio of 3rd harmonic is increased by an order of magnitude than the current device with other harmonics well reduced simultaneously. The significance of the modification measure is verified practically. The design, measurement and commissioning of the device is described.

Abstract: 在国内外研究成果的基础上,从高铁站选址合理性、高铁站服务能力、设站城市发展水平三个方面构建高铁站地区发展潜力评价指标体系,基于灰色关联理论建立高铁站地区发展潜力评价模型,并对武广客运专线沿线高铁站地区进行实证分析。研究结果表明:高铁站地区发展潜力是多因素综合作用的结果,不同影响因子对车站地区发展的影响绩效有较大差异,其中高铁站空间区位、车站与城市内外交通设施衔接便捷度、城市空间形态紧凑度等因子影响绩效较大。
Based on the domestic and international research results, this paper constructed the index system for evaluating development potential of areas surrounding high-speed railway stations from three aspects: rationality of high-speed railway station location, high-speed railway station service capability, and the development level of stationed city. Then, the evaluation model for the development potential of areas surrounding high-speed railway station was established based on the grey correlation theory, and an empirical analysis of areas surrounding the high-speed railway stations along the Wuhan-Guangzhou passenger corridor Line was performed. The results show that the development potential of high-speed railway station is subjected to multiple factors with varying influences of different factors on the development of station areas. The spatial location of high-speed railway station, the convenient connection among station, city, and city traffic facilities, urban spatial topology and other factors play significant roles

Abstract:

Unlike primary pancreatic carcinoma, metastases to the pancreas are rare and their resection may be performed as a palliative treatment due to poorly defined outcome. We herein present an extremely rare case of pancreatic metastases of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy with tumor-free survival within postoperative 35-month follow-up. Pancreatic resection for metastatic MFH to the pancreas should be considered in selected patients. Long-term survival or good palliation may be achieved.
