Adsorption behavior of iron phthalocyanine on a Ag(110) surface

Abstract: An investigation on the growth behavior of FePc on a Ag (110) surface is carried out by using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). At an FePc coverage of 3.5 ML, an ordered superstructure (densely packed) with a lateral shift is observed. The densely packed superstructure can be attributed to the substrate commensuration and the intermolecular van der Waals attractive interaction. The in-plane lateral shift in the superphase is specifically along the direction of 110] azimuth. The results provide a new perspective to understanding the intermolecular and the molecule-substrate interactions.
The cDNA sequence of the transferrin gene in tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) and its transcriptional changes under acute hypoxic stress

Abstract: In this study, the cDNA sequence of the transferrin (Tf) gene in tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) (CsTf) was identified and characterised. The full length of CsTf cDNA was 2281 bp encoding 677 amino acids (aa). The mature CsTf protein was found to be made up of 656 aa and it consisted of two lobes (N- and C-lobes). Two- and three- dimensional (2-D and 3-D) structure analysis showed that CsTf possesses a similar structure (multi-α helix/β-sheet) to human Tf. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis showed that CsTf was mainly expressed in the liver, and moderately expressed in the heart, spleen and kidney. Moreover, CsTf was up-regulated in different tissues under acute hypoxia [dissolved oxygen (DO)=0.8 mg/L]. Our results suggest that CsTf plays a role in fish’s adaptation to hypoxic stress.
Mathematical Modeling of Cytotoxic Lymphocyte-Mediated Immune Response to Hepatitis B Virus Infection

Abstract: Nowak's model of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection has been extensively and successfully used to simulate the interaction between HIV and cytotoxic lymphocyte- (CTL-) mediated immune response. However, this model is not available for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. As the enhanced recruitment of virus-specific CTLs into the liver has been an important novel concept in the pathogenesis of hepatitis B, we develop a specific mathematical model analyzing the relationship between HBV and the CTL-mediated immune response, and the indicator of the liver cell damage, alanine aminotransferase (ALT). The stability condition of the complete recovery equilibrium point at which HBV will be eliminated entirely from the body is discussed. A different set of parameters is used in the simulation, and the results show that the model can interpret the wide variety of clinical manifestations of HBV infection. The model suggests that a rapid and vigorous CTL response is required for resolution of HBV infection.
A Dynamic Model for the Hepatitis B Virus Infection

Abstract: According to the pathogenesis of hepatitis B, a mathematical model describing the relationship between hepatitis B virus(HBV) and the cellular immune response to the infection is built based on Nowak's population dynamics model of immune responses to persistent viruses. The model has two possible equilibrium states: complete recovery (HBV will be eliminated from the body entirely), uninfected and infected hepatocytes coexisting state. The stability condition of each equilibrium points is discussed. Different set of parameters satisfied the different conditions is used in the simulation and the results show that the model can interpret the wide variety of clinical manifestations of infection: acute hepatitis, fulminant hepatitis, acute–turn-chronic hepatitis, chronic hepatitis without acute phase, recurring hepatitis, and so on. Both immunomics and infectomics may be involved in the underlying mechanisms. The model suggests that a rapid and vigorous CTL response is required for resolution of HBV infection.
On Value Orientation in China and the West as Reflected in Man Creation by Nuwa and by the God  [PDF]

Abstract: Value orientation refers to value tendency that people have when they take a certain action in a certain way on a certain occasion. It is an important part of culture. Studying value orientation in different cultures can help people understand the differences between cultures so as to facilitate the cross-cultural communication. Mythology is an important part of culture. Man Creation mythology is a category of mythology and it is about human beings’ thinking and interpretation of their origin. Value orientation in different cultures may originate from the Man Creation mythology of the respective cultures. In this paper, a comparative study of the value orientation between China and the west is made through comparing Man Creation by Nuwa in China and Man Creation by the God in the west and with regards to the characteristics of Chinese and western value orientation shown respectively in the two Man Creation mythologies. The study in this paper indicates that the two Man Creation mythologies reflect the differences in value orientation between China and the West on behavioral thinking, marriage relation and man-god relation. On behavioral thinking, Man Creation by Nuwa reflects emotionalism in China and Man Creation by the God reflects intellectualism in the West; on marriage relation, Chinese marriage is based on breeding offspring and western marriage is based on people’s emotional and physical needs; on man-god relation, it is praying for blessing and giving blessing in China, while it is showing repentance and accepting repentance in the West.
How to Teach Aural English More Effectively

Abstract: As a means of communication, listening plays an important role in people’s life. In foreign language classroom, listening comprehension has never drawn the same attention of educators as it now does. So it is a vital importance to teach aural English more effectively. In view of present situation of aural English teaching and wrong ideas about it, the problems in traditional aural English teaching have been discussed, including monotonous pattern of teaching, ineffectiveness of teachers’ roles, students’ passivity, orientation at exams instead of students’ abilities and so forth. Then suggestions are presented on how to teach aural English more effectively: first, diversifying patterns of teaching should throw the emphasis on teaching in authentic environments and interaction between listening and other teaching activities; secondly, teachers should design listening activities for the class, build good interaction in the class and cultivate more creative methods in their teaching to change their ineffective roles; thirdly, students’ passive roles in class should also be modified by harmonizing their extrinsic motivations and intrinsic motivations; finally, the relationship between exams and development of abilities should be coordinated by using different strategies in different cases. Yet, there still exist a lot of problems in aural English teaching. For example, how to use authentic recordings in aural English teaching? Is it necessary to have audio equipment in order to train listening skills? And how to build the listeners’ confidence in listeners? etc. Therefore, there is still a long way to go for EFL educators.

Abstract: In this paper, it first discusses the continuity of the cut-set functions of fuzzy sets in $F_{USC} (\mathbb{R}^m)$ and $F_{USCB} (\mathbb{R}^m)$ espectively, where $F_{USC} (\mathbb{R}^m)$ is the set of all upper semi-continuous fuzzy sets on $\mathbb{R}^m$, and $F_{USCB} (\mathbb{R}^m)$ denotes a subset of $F_{USC} (\mathbb{R}^m)$, fuzzy sets in which has bounded $\al$-cut sets, $\al>0$. Then we consider relationships of endograph metric convergence and $\Gamma$-convergence on $F_{USC} (\mathbb{R}^m)$. It gives conditions under which these two convergence structures are equivalent on $F_{USCB} (\mathbb{R}^m)$. We also investigate the level characterizations of endograph metric convergence and $\Gamma$-convergence. Based on above results, we give characterizations of relatively compact sets, totally bounded sets and compact sets in $(F_{USCB} (\mathbb{R}^m), H_{\rm end})$, where $H_{\rm end}$ is the endograph metric. It shows that $(F_{USCB} (\mathbb{R}^m), H_{\rm end})$ is a complete space. At last, on the basis of above results, we present properties, especially characterizations of compact sets, of some common subspaces of $(F_{USCB} (\mathbb{R}^m), H_{\rm end})$ such as star-shaped fuzzy sets space, fuzzy numbers space.
