Review of Mediation from the Social Constructivist Perspective and Its Implications for Secondary School EFL Classrooms in China
Xiongyong Cheng,Hua Cheng
Theory and Practice in Language Studies , 2012, DOI: 10.4304/tpls.2.4.808-819
Abstract: This paper critically highlights the survey of the body of literature in favor of social constructivism to look at the changing views of teacher classroom performance, from which it seems more challenging for a teacher to help students construct knowledge than to instruct directly. The history of mediation is discussed with Feuerstein’s 12 mediated learning experience features incorporated into Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development on the basis of social constructivism. To address the proposed question, a methodological triangulation (i.e., observations & interviews) was applied for data collection regarding language teacher mediative practices. Based on the findings, a conclusion is drawn that most English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers among secondary schools in China are unable to mediate students’ learning due to the deficiency of mediation and the fact that most Chinese EFL learners are weak at communicative competence in the target language. An EFL teacher’s command of mediation knowledge plus his/her abilities to overcome situational constraints might result in the successful implementation of mediation strategies.
(m-Phenylenedimethylene)diammonium dichloride
Hua Cheng,Huisheng Li
Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2008, DOI: 10.1107/s1600536808031334
Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C8H14N22+·2Cl , contains one and a half of the dications and three chloride anions. The half molecule is completed by crystallographic twofold symmetry with two C atoms lying on the rotation axis. The two ammonium groups in each cation adopt a trans conformation with respect ot the benzene ring. The ammonium groups and chloride anions are involved in the formation of a three-dimensional N—H...Cl hydrogen-bonding network, which stabilizes the crystal packing.
Employment Modes from Transactional and Relational Perspectives: An Exploratory Case Study
Tsai Cheng-Hua
International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: The current study uses a case study approach to investigate why organizations allocate different kinds of employees We adopt relational (social exchange theory) and transactional (agency theory) perspectives to explain the increasing allocation of external employees, in contrast to previous scholars who only emphasize cutting operating costs as the main reason for hiring external employees. Our study shows that opportunism is assumed to be important ― not because everyone is opportunistic but because it is impossible to obtain reliable information concerning the opportunism of the partner. Therefore, to control risk, it is perhaps safer for an organization to hire external workers and then to shorten the cognitive distance between managers and new hires, thereby fostering opportunities for mutual understanding. When trust is built, long-term relationships are easier to maintain and turnover rates typically decrease.

Differential transforming activity of the retroviral Tax oncoproteins in human T lymphocytes
Tong Ren,Hua Cheng
Frontiers in Microbiology , 2013, DOI: 10.3389/fmicb.2013.00287
Abstract: Human T cell leukemia virus type 1 and type 2 (HTLV-1 and -2) are two closely related retroviruses. HTLV-1 causes adult T cell leukemia and lymphoma, whereas HTLV-2 infection is not etiologically linked to human disease. The viral genomes of HTLV-1 and -2 encode highly homologous transforming proteins, Tax-1 and Tax-2, respectively. Tax-1 is thought to play a central role in transforming CD4+ T lymphocytes. Expression of Tax-1 is crucial for promoting survival and proliferation of virally infected human T lymphocytes and is necessary for initiating HTLV-1-mediated oncogenesis. In transgenic mice and humanized mouse model, Tax-1 has proven to be leukemogenic. Although Tax-1 is able to efficiently transform rodent fibroblasts and to induce lymphoma in mouse model, it rarely transforms primary human CD4+ T lymphocytes. In contrast, Tax-2 efficiently immortalizes human CD4+ T cells though it exhibits a lower transforming activity in rodent cells as compared to Tax-1. We here discuss our recent observation and views on the differential transforming activity of Tax-1 and Tax-2 in human T cells.
Proposal to Study Uniqueness Problem of Rayleigh Wave in Half-Space Kelvin Viscoelastic Media  [PDF]
Hua Cheng, Takashi Takiguchi
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2019.79142
Abstract: Rayleigh wave is an interference wave of longitudinal wave and transverse wave which propagate along the free surface of solids. There remains a dispute about the number of Rayleigh waves in viscoelastic media until now, which is an essential problem of Rayleigh wave propagation. The purpose of this study is to propose a brief way of handling this essential problem within half-space Kelvin viscoelastic media. Starting from the dynamic equations of transverse wave and longitudinal wave based on Kelvin viscoelastic model, this study sets the complex wave number as a variable, introduces complex moduli and complex exponential factors, then a characteristic equation of Kelvin viscoelastic Rayleigh wave in half space is derived and simplified support for analysis of its uniqueness. After reviewing mathematical models describing phenomena of having multiple solutions but uniqueness when a natural condition is taken into account, a conjecture is given that the Rayleigh wave in Kelvin viscoelastic media must be unique if we assume a natural condition in accordance with the natural phenomena.
Optimal Load Dispatch of Gas Turbine Power Generation Units based on Multiple Population Genetic Algorithm  [PDF]
Hua Xiao, Cheng Yang, Jie Wu, Xiaoqian Ma
Engineering (ENG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2013.51B036
Abstract: In this paper, a multiple population genetic algorithm (MPGA) is proposed to solve the problem of optimal load dispatch of gas turbine generation units. By introducing multiple populations on the basis of Standard Genetic Algorithm (SGA), connecting each population through immigrant operator and preserving the best individuals of every generation through elite strategy, MPGA can enhance the efficiency in obtaining the global optimal solution. In this paper, MPGA is applied to optimize the load dispatch of 3×390MW gas turbine units. The results of MPGA calculation are compared with that of equal micro incremental method and AGC instruction. MPGA shows the best performance of optimization under different load conditions. The amount of saved gas consumption in the calculation is up to 2337.45m3N/h, which indicates that the load dispatch optimization of gas turbine units via MPGA approach can be effective.
Slight free falling impact test for assessing guava maturity  [PDF]
Cheng-Chang Lien, Ching-Hua Ting
Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/as.2013.45B004

A non-destructive method for assessing the maturity of guava was developed based on the mechanical properties of the fruit under the slight falling impact test. The levels of maturity were classified with cluster and discriminant analyses on the primitive impact measurements and their derivatives. The accuracy of classification was improved with linear discriminant analysis and the number of indices being processed was reduced with stepwise regression analysis. The accuracy of classification is 84.21%. The performance shows that slight falling impact together with linear discriminant analysis provides a promising non-destructive approach in assessing the maturity of guavas.

Characterising the Progress of Gelation in Tofu Making with Ohmic Heating  [PDF]
Cheng-Chang Lien, Ching-Hua Ting
Journal of Agricultural Chemistry and Environment (JACEN) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jacen.2015.42B001

In tofu making by heat treatment, the addition of coagulant ionizes the proteins as a result of heat dissolution and the ionized proteins aggregate with the coagulant to form protein clusters. The electrical conductivity (EC) of the soya milk emulsion varies in response to the progress of gelation. By ohmic heating, the applied current and voltage directly indicate the electrical conductivity of the soya milk emulsion and then indirectly the progress of tofu gelation. In this paper, ultrasonic measurement is adopted to explore the feasibility of using EC as an indicator of tofu gelation. Experiments showed a strong correlation between EC and ultrasonic measurement in characterisation of tofu gelation.

Health (Health) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/health.2012.412182
Abstract: Objective: To explore the clinicpathologic features and MRI manifestations of the thoracic lumbar tuberculosis by underwenting MRI and pathological examinations. Methods: 34 cases of Thoracic lumbar tuberculosis were collected which underwent MRI examination and confirmed by pathology or treatment of anti-TB drugs, the clinical cure from June 2008 to June 2012 in our hospital. The first MRI was performed on all patients, to determine the MRI findings, and surgical treatment for pathological examination in order to determine the pathological features. Results: 34 patients with 81 vertebral involvement, in which two adjacent vertebral involvement is the common, accounting for 72.25%, vertebral showed uneven long T1, long T2 signal. Intervertebral disc abnormalities accounted for 90.17%, the performance showed long T1, long T2 signal changes in the intervertebral disc damage, often accompanied by disc space narrowing or disappear. Paraspinal abscess accounted for 90.67%, often more than vertebra, up and down across one or more vertebral bodies showed long T1, long T2 signal. The vertebrae were damaged kyphosis or (and) the posterior longitudinal ligament abscess caused by the dural sac and spinal column with pressure accounted for 74.72%. In enhanced scan, vertebrae, intervertebral discs showed heterogeneous enhancement, paraspinal abscess was curved or ring enhancement. The pathological diagnosis may be obvious to confirm the degree of swelling and lesions. Conclusion: By doing the MRI and pathologic examinations, it can determine the clinical and pathological features and MRI findings of spinal tuberculosis patients with Thoracic lumbar spinal tuberculosis, and lay a reliable foundation for the treatment of the subsequent treatment.
