CRPV Genomes with Synonymous Codon Optimizations in the CRPV E7 Gene Show Phenotypic Differences in Growth and Altered Immunity upon E7 Vaccination

Abstract: Papillomaviruses use rare codons relative to their hosts. Recent studies have demonstrated that synonymous codon changes in viral genes can lead to increased protein production when the codons are matched to those of cells in which the protein is being expressed. We theorized that the immunogenicity of the virus would be enhanced by matching codons of selected viral genes to those of the host. We report here that synonymous codon changes in the E7 oncogene are tolerated in the context of the cottontail rabbit papillomavirus (CRPV) genome. Papilloma growth rates differ depending upon the changes made indicating that synonymous codons are not necessarily neutral. Immunization with wild type E7 DNA yielded significant protection from subsequent challenge by both wild type and codon-modified genomes. The reduction in growth was most dramatic with the genome containing the greatest number of synonymous codon changes.

Abstract: The effect of two kinds of corticosleroids: corticosterone and dexamthesone on memory retention of dark hatched chicks and corticosteroid receptor antagonist RU- 486 and Spironolactone on memory retention improved by light exposure or corticostorone were examined using one-trial passive avoidance model in chicks. It showed that corticosterone and dexamthesone markedly improved memory retention of dark hatched chicks respectively. RU-486 and Spironolactone blocked memory retention improved by light exposure or corticosterone administration in chicks. But the effect of glucocorticoid receptor was specific, however minerocorticoid mainly affected the general state of the chicks. Thus, glucocorticoid and its receptors were involved in effect of light exposure on memory in chicks.

Abstract: The locomotor achvities (LA) of rats were tested every 15 mins for 95 mins after morphine injected intraperitoneally with 8, 4, 2, 1mg/kg/day respectively once a day during the 8-day experiment,and the number of squares (10 X 10 cm2) which the rats passed by in 5 mins were recorded. Results showed that there were significant differences between the groups treared with 8 or 4mg/ kg / day of morphine and normal saline on day2-8, and between the groups with 2mg/kg/day of morphine and the control group on day2, 5 and 6. Thus 4mg / kg / day was the most suitable low dose of morphine for activating LA. The peak effect of 4mg/kg/day of morphine was at 15-20 mins after injection, and it kept going up for 8 days. It was suggested that low dose of morphine may be more stutable for related behavioral effects such as those of conditioned place preference or self-administration, and the best time course for training tasks may be within 20 min after the rats were exposed to morphine.

Abstract: One-day-old chicks were trained with 100%concentration of a taste aversantchemical,methyl anthranilate(MeA),and tested for memory retention at 6 differenttime points ( 10, 30 and 70minutes; 4, 8 and 24hours)after training. The brainsections were examined with immunohistochemistry method.The number of cellswhich expressed Jun-like protein was counted under the micmscope and analysed byANOVA statistical system.The results showed that Jun-like protein expression wasspecifically activated by the leaning course in one-day-old chicks. There existeddifferences among different areas in the brain,that is to say, more Jun-like protein in LPO than that in HV on the whole.Because Jun-like protein expression had similartendency with the memory trace in chicks,it could be deduced that c-jun gene mightplay an important role in the consolidation and retention of the chicks'memory.
A Stochastic Model for the Normal Tissue Complication Probability (NTCP) in Radiation Treatment of Cancer

Abstract: The normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) is a measure for the estimated side effects of a given radiation treatment schedule. Here we use a stochastic logistic birth death process to define an organ specific and patient specific NTCP. We emphasise an asymptotic simplification which relates the NTCP to the solution of a logistic differential equation. This framework allows for a direct use of the NTCP model in clinical practice. We formulate, but do not solve, related optimization problems.

Abstract: 研究了啤酒酵母(Brewer's yeast)细胞经He—Ne激光(λ=6328)照射后继续生长的再生能力及蛋白质合成随照射剂量的变化关系。它呈现的振荡、触发和阈值效应等特点表现了对剂量的强烈敏感性,28℃和31℃时细胞的激活剂量出现在2.31J·cm~(-2)和3.23J·cm~(-2)等处,且照射组指数生长期比对照组明显缩短。上述现象表明了一定剂量的He—Ne激光的刺激作用,生物细胞内非线性动力学因素可能激发其内部存在的相干激发振动模式。
Characteristics of Myocardial Postsystolic Shortening in Patients with Symptomatic Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy before and Half a Year after Alcohol Septal Ablation Assessed by Speckle Tracking Echocardiography

Abstract: Objectives Postsystolic shortening (PSS) has been proposed as a marker of myocardial dysfunction. Percutaneous transluminal septal myocardial ablation (PTSMA) is an alternative therapy for patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) that results in sustained improvements in atrial structure and function. We investigated the effects of PTSMA on PSS in HOCM patients using speckle tracking imaging. Methods Conventional echocardiographic and PSS parameters were obtained in 18 healthy controls and 30 HOCM patients before and half a year after PTSMA. Results Compared with the healthy controls, the number of segments having PSS and the average value of PSS were significantly increased in the HOCM patients. At 6 months after PTSMA, both the number of segments having PSS (10.5±2.8 vs. 13.2±2.6; P<0.001) and the average value of PSS (?1.24±0.57 vs. ?1.55±0.56; P = 0.009) were significantly reduced. Moreover, the reductions in the average value of PSS correlated well with the reductions in the E-to-Ea ratio (r = 0.705, P<0.001). Conclusions Both the number of segments having PSS and the average value of PSS were significantly increased in the HOCM patients. PTSMA has a favourable effect on PSS, which may partly account for the persistent improvement in LV diastolic function in HOCM patients after PTSMA.
On Relationship between Pediatric Shi Ji and Fever  [PDF]

Abstract: Based on the clinical effect of the treatment on 546 Pediatric Shi Ji fever cases, the thesis tries to explore the effectiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) treatment on Pediatric Shi Ji and the relationship between Pediatric Shi Ji and fever. The methodology applied is a retrospective analysis on the clinical curative effect of TCM treatment on Shi Ji fever cases in our hospital from January 2008 to December 2012. And the results show that a total effective rate of 96.3% could be guaranteed through either oral Chinese Medicinal Herbs, Chinese Medicine Enema, Massage Therapy, or navel administration with TCM. The thesis holds that Pediatric Shi Ji may cause fever, which could be cured simply by applying TCM treatment (promoting digestion to eliminate stagnation) with less or no use of antibiotics.
