El cuestionario incluyó la escala SWFL (Satisfaction with Food-related Life). In order to identify variables which have an influence on satisfaction with food-related life among mapuches a survey was applied to 400 mapuche subjects in the Araucanía Region. The questionnaire included the SWFL (Satisfaction with Food-related Life) scale. It was found that 39.5% were satisfied and 332% extremely satisfied with their food-related life. A multinomial probit model was proposed in which the dependent variable was food-satisfaction, which resulted significant (p<0.01) overall. The probability of high food-related satisfaction increases as fewer people live in the subject's household, more is spent on food, children express their opinion aboutfoodstuffs, he/she consumes "catutos" (a mapuche food), aged 55 or over, not widowed, performs regular exercise, tries not to eat industrialized foods, but does not try to eat foods without additives. Food-related satisfaction in mapuche persons in the Araucanía Region is related to demographic, feeding and life-style variables.

Abstract: considering the rejection by consumers of genetically modified foods, and that the country of origin is used as an indicator of quality, a study was done of the relative importance of the existence of genetic modification (gm), the origin and the price in the purchase of sunflower oil in temuco through a survey of 400 people; at the same time different market segments were identified and characterized. it was determined by conjoint analysis that the existence of gm (36.0%) was slightly more important than country of origin (33.3%) and price (30.7%) in the total sample, with a preference for product with no gm, of chilean origin and at a lower price. three segments were distinguished by analysis of hierarchical conglomerates. the majority segment (45.5%) attributed great importance to the existence of gm and presented high rejection of transgenic vegetable oil. the second group (29.7%) assigned greater importance to the price and accepted argentinean oil. the minority group (24.8%) attributed greater importance to country of origin and accepted spanish oil. regardless of the above distinctions, all groups expressed a greater preference for chilean oil. the absence of gm in vegetable oil is a desirable condition for a large proportion of consumers (45.5%), but the rest were relatively indifferent to the existence or absence of genetic manipulation in this product.

Abstract: in order to detect differences in consumption habits according to ethnic background and degree of acculturation in mapuche people, a survey with a sample of 400 people, stratified by ethnicity, was performed in the city of temuco, araucania region. taking the food groups covered by the family budget survey in consideration, the monthly amount spend is lower in mapuche households compared to non/mapuche. differences were observed in the consumption frequency of milk, cheese, eggs and herbal tea according to ethnicity. however, ethnic origin is strongly associated only with the consumption of herbal tea. the degree of acculturation did not reveal any differences in the consumption frequency of these foods, but acculturation is strongly associated with the consumption offish and seafood, herbal tea and soft drinks. the degree of acculturation is also strongly associated with the consumption of foods traditional to the ethnic group; bicultural mapuches have higher probability of consuming traditional foods than acculturated mapuches.

Abstract: in spite of the general agreement of proven utility of pulmonary function evaluation in helping health care professionals to make right decisions with respiratory patients in specific clinical circumstances, the daily life activity does not include these measurements. this approach differs with the regular use of ecg, glucose, cholesterol, arterial blood pressure measurement or even chest x ray. spirometer limited availability in out-patient setting was the most common argument to back this attitude. for more than 20 years a very economic, reliable and portable equipment to measure the peak expiratory flows, is available to be used in out-patient clinics. this portable flow meter, allows to evaluate the obstructive component of the respiratory diseases in patients home, work and clinics and to make evident, possible changes produced by therapeutic interventions. the big proportion of obstructive diseases in clinical practice make necessary to get such instrument on daily activities, all international guidelines to treat asthmatic patients include the regular measurement of peak expiratory flow in their exacerbations, as well as in their out-patient clinics medical control. this information is a basic requirement to get proper asthma control and to get good quality intervention in respiratory patients with a bronchial obstructive component

In spite of the general agreement of proven utility of pulmonary function evaluation in helping health care professionals to make right decisions with respiratory patients in specific clinical circumstances, the daily life activity does not include these measurements. Abstract: considering that attitudes to biotechnology depend on the organism to which it is applied and the type of modification made, a survey was carried out on 400 persons to determine the importance of the type of genetic modification (gm) in the purchase of beef by consumers in temuco (la araucanía region, chile) in different market segments. using conjoint analysis it was determined that the type of gm was more important than the price in the purchase decision (66.2 and 33.8%, respectively). two principal segments were identified by analysis of hierarchical conglomerates, with significant differences in the importance of these attributes. the majority segment (63.8%) attached great importance to the type of gm, the second segment (28.2%) attributed more importance to the price, however consumers of both segments preferred meat from an animal without gm or one with gm to reduce the cholesterol content, and rejected meat from an animal fed with gm grain or subjected to gm to reduce feeding costs. the segments presented differences related to the size of the family group, frequency of beef consumption and life-style. it may be concluded that the absence of gm in beef is a desirable condition for the consumers of temuco, however the whole sample responded positively to meat from a gm animal which presents health benefits and 8% accept meat from an animal which has been fed with gm grain.
