Sensitive Voltammetric Determination of Mitoxantrone by Using CS-Dispersed Graphene Modified Glassy Carbon Electrodes  [PDF]

Abstract: A novel CS-dispersed graphene modified glassy carbon electrode was fabricated. Study electrochemical characteristics of mitoxantrone in the CS-dispersed graphene modified electrode by cyclic voltammetry and other methods, by selecting and optimizing the various parameters to create a new electrochemical method for the determination of mitoxantrone. The linear range of the oxidation peak current is from 6×10–10 to 1 ×10–6 mol/l in this method, after 2.5 mins open-circuit accumulation, the limit of detection is 2×10–10 mol/l. After 10 parallel determinations, the relative standard deviation was 3.7% that the concentration of mitoxantrone was 1×10–8 mol/l. The modified electrode has been successfully applied for the assay of mitoxantrone in human urine samples.
Assessing the Role of Individual Variables in Determining the Research and Development Engineers’ Creativity - A Study in Electrical and Electronics Industry  [PDF]

This study examined the direct effect of individual variables (self-esteem, creative self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation) on the Research and Development (R&D) engineers’ creativity. The data were analysed based on questionnaires returned by 130 R&D engineers attached to fifteen Electrical and Electronic (E&E) firms with R&D department in Penang, Malaysia. The convenience sampling method was employed in getting the samples. The results posited that all individual variables were positively related to R&D engineers’ creativity. The results also reported that there is no significant difference in R&D engineers’ creativity between contract employment type and permanent employment type. The theoretical and practical implications of the study as well as suggestion for future studies were also discussed.

Experimental Research and Finite Element Analysis on Setting Stiffening Rib of Corner Joints in Gabled Frames  [PDF]

In order to clear constructional design of corner joint, it is necessary to further investi-gate mechanical property of corner joint in gabled frames. Through static test and finite element software analysis of comparing the panel zone with and without inclined stiffener. Some conclusions are given in the article. The load displacement curves show that the capacity of oblique nodes installed within stiffening rib components is enhanced i.e. 40% more than those without stiffening rib nodes. The results reveal that in the gabled frames, the corner node with the inclined stiffening rib can improve the bearing capacity of the specimens. When the extraterritorial flange is tension, the erection of the inclined stiffening rib can prevent structural failure and improve effectually the ductility of the structure.

This research scrutinize how the Chinese system applied to reduces cost effectiveness in order to curves housing affordability for the purpose of land prices for the social housing popularly known as low cost social housing schemes as the government took measures throughout the years, however the paper describes the key characteristics of Chinese urban planning and design system, subsidies to social rented housing producers are being cut and equates this with practice within Chinese spectrum. The paper describes the key characteristics of the national planning, as per the recent trends housing policy on-affordability, this planning system assists overall housing requirements and how it has been adapted. It explains the new arrangements the government has put into place to lower land prices for social housing and argues that this represents provide and expand the supply of good quality housing units; make housing more affordable and readily available; promote economic diversity in residential neighborhood; help households build wealth; and promote balanced metropolitan growth.

Dated back to the opening up policy, Chinese economy had been rising tremendously, coupled with achievement, though housing challenges across the country greatly arose. Under the traditional planned economy since 1949, entirely housing construction became the State responsibility. As a result of lack of finances, new housing production has not emerged while nation population on rise. Till 1988 when Urban housing reform existed as proposed strategy of affordable housing for the ordinary households through the private housing market. However, the strategy faced numerous obstacles such as lack of sec-ond hands market, an undeveloped real estate profession, indistinct land and property and property regulation plus absence of proper property management support. Amid these obstacles, the lack of housing ?nance would appeared to be a vital problem. Government Introduction of housing provident fund (HPF) scheme in 1991 applied as right measures for curving housing funding problems, under the Housing development fun, all employees required to contribute a percentage of their incomes to housing funding problems and employers contributed a similar amount. individual workers Accounts were opened with Construction Bank of China. Currently workers allowed to withdraw their housing development savings at retirement period, instead their application for their housing development savings as homes purchases in housing market. The Effect of Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharide on Alcohol-Induced Oxidative Stress in Rats

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Lycium barbarum Polysaccharide (LBP) on alcohol-induced liver damage in rats. A total of 36 rats were divided into control, ethanol and ethanol + LBP groups. Rats in the ethanol group were fed 7 g ethanol/kg body weight by gastric infusion, three times a day, for 30 consecutive days, while rats in the control group received the same volume of physiological saline instead of ethanol, and rats in ethanol + LBP group were fed both ethanol (7 g/kg body weight) and LBP (300 mg/Kg body weight/day). Alcoholic liver injury was examined by serum ALT and AST activities, alcoholic fatty liver was assessed by lipid levels, and oxidative stress was evaluated by SOD, CAT, GSH-Px, GSH and MDA assays. In the ethanol group, a significant elevation of enzymes and lipid in serum, increased MDA level and depletion of SOD, CAT, GSH-Px and GSH in liver were observed. LBP administration significantly ameliorated liver injury, prevented the progression of alcohol-induced fatty liver, and improved the antioxidant functions when compared with the ethanol group. Histopathological examination of rat liver revealed that LBP administration protected liver cells from the damage induced by ethanol. The results suggest that LBP is a promising agent to protect the liver from hepatotoxicity and fatty liver induced by ethanol intake.
A test of Snowmelt Runoff Model (SRM) for the Gongnaisi River basin in the western Tianshan Mountains, China

Abstract: The Snowmelt Runoff Model (SRM) is one of a very few models in the world today that requires remote sensing derived snow cover as model input. Owing to its simple data requirements and use of remote sensing to provide snow cover information, SRM is ideal for use in data sparse regions, particularly in remote and inaccessible high mountain watersheds. In order to verify the applicability of SRM in an environment of continental climate, a test of SRM is performed for the Gongnaisi River basin in the western Tianshan Mountains, the results show that two SRM average goodness-of-fit statistics for simulations, Nash-Sutcliff coefficient (R 2) and volume difference (D v), are 0.87 and 0.90%, respectively. As compared with the application results over 80 basins in 25 different countries around the world, SRM performs well in the Gongnaisi River basin. The results also show that SRM can be a validated snowmelt runoff model capable of being applied in the western Tianshan Mountains. On the basis of snowmelt runoff simulation, together with a set of simplified hypothetical climate scenarios, SRM is also used to simulate the effects of climate change on snow cover and the consecutive snowmelt runoff. For a given hypothetical temperature increase of 4°C, the snow coverage and snowmelt season shift towards earlier dates, and the snowmelt runoff, as a result, is changed significantly at the same time. The simulation results show that the snow cover is sensitive to changes of climate, especially to the increase of temperature, the major effect of climate change will be a time shifting of snowmelt runoff to early spring months, resulting in a redistribution of seasonally runoff throughout the whole snowmelt season.
Dual regulatory effects of resveratrol on activation of NF-κB and cell proliferation in human embryonal kidney 293 cells

Abstract: Resveratrol (3,4′,5-trihydroxystilbene, Res), a naturally occurring polyphenol, exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, potential chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic properties in preclinical studies. To further understand its potential clinical efficacy and safety, effect of Res at 10 9–10 4 mol/L on human embryonal kidney (HEK293) cell proliferation and its potential mechanism were investigated in present study. Cell viability was detected by using trypan blue dye exclusion method. Cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed by flow cytometry with propidium iodide stain. Activation of nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) was determined by luciferase reporter gene assay using stably transfected HEK293/kB-1uc cells. Secretion of human interleukin-8 (hIL-8) was measured by ELISA. Our results show that HEK293 cell proliferation was significantly stimulated by 10 7 mol/L Res after treatment for 48 hours, or by 10 8-10 7 mol/L Res combinated with 10 ng/mL TNFα for 24 h, but was suppressed by 10 4 mol/L Res with or without TNFα. Both endogenous and TNFα-induced NF-kB activation were downregulated by Res at 10 7 mol/L, but were upregulated at 10 4 mol/L. With 10 4 mol/L Res, the content of secreted IL-8 was increased, and apoptosis rate was increased from less than 5% to 10%, together with significant cell-cycle arrest in S phase. TNFα has coordinative effects with Res on HEK293 cell apoptosis, cell-cycle arrest and IL-8 secretion. These results indicate that Res promotes cell proliferation at low concentration through down-regulation of NF-kB activation in HEK293, but suppresses its growth at high concentration through up-regulation of NF-kB activation, increasing IL-8 and cell-cycle arrest. As resveratrol has dual regulatory effect on cell proliferationin vitro, comprehensive evaluation of its potential clinical utility is needed.
Circular RNA in Lung Cancer Research: Biogenesis, Functions and Roles

Abstract: Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in China. In recent years, therapies for oncogenedrivers and immune checkpoints have proved inspiring. Circular RNA (circRNA), which is a kind of RNA with covalent ring structure relating to stages and metastasis of cancer, has many special biological functions in physiological processes, diseases and so on. Thus, circRNA is expected to be a potential biomarker for cancer prediction and treatment in view of its high conservation and tissue-specific. However, function analysis and regulatory mechanism of circRNA in lung cancer come so far remains unclear and limited literatures are available. In this review, we highlight the research history, formation mechanism, biological function of circRNA and research progress in cancer, especially in lung cancer. We mean to provide theoretical evidences and new ideas for researches on circRNAs in lung cancer.

Abstract: A new method of data access which can effectively resolve the problem of high speed and real time reading data of nuclear instrument in small storage space is introduced. This method applies the data storage mode of “linked list” to the system of Micro Control Unit (MCU), and realizes the pointer access of nuclear data on the small storage space of MCU. Experimental results show that this method can solve some problems of traditional data storage method, which has the advantages of simple program design, stable performance, accurate data, strong repeatability, saving storage space and so on.
