This article analyses the relationship between health and work of the Agentes de Combate às Endemias (ACE - endemic diseases combat agents) of Funda o Nacional de Saúde (FUNASA) who work in the city of Nova Igua u (Southeastern Brazil) and who were readmitted after being dismissed. It aims to give visibility to the questions which involved their reintegration to work and points to the workers' main worries related to their work situation. The methodology was participant research. Collective interviews were conducted, in which the main themes were identified and used in the research. These themes are related to political interference in their actions, their work conditions and institutional and professional rewards. The workers perceive the continuous precariousness of their job due to political interference and to political and administrative decentralization. Besides that, there is a professional devaluation of these workers from both the institution and the population in general

Pharmacology & Pharmacy (PP) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/pp.2010.11004
Abstract: This paper investigated the porcine surfactant protein A (pSP-A) immunogenicity in murine model. Many elegant stu-dies about SP-A therapeutic applications are available however specific studies about its exogenous immunogenicity were not easily assumed. Therefore, we investigated the immunogenicity of this porcine protein in mice. The mice re-ceived pSP-A subcutaneously on days 0 and 7. The animals were observed during 90 days and the blood was collected on days 30, 60 and 90 for assessment the immunogenic potential of pSP-A. Some animals showed circulating antibodies above the screening cut point, which was calculated based on control mice sera signals. However, those antibodies were considered false positive read-outs by the performed competitive inhibition assay. Also no neutralizing antibodies were detected able to avoid the porcine protein ability to promote lipid aggregation. So far in this model, porcine surfactant protein-A could be considered not immunogenic.
Reflex?es sobre concep??es de família e empresas familiares
Machado, Hilka Vier;
Psicologia em Estudo , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-73722005000200019
Abstract: the aim of this paper is to present considerations about the concept of family business, considering recent transformations in the structure of contemporary family. most of the studies about family business were developed considering the patriarchal family as the panorama of investigation. thus, the description on the performance of these enterprises follows the same distribution of power and status of the patriarchal family. however, cultural, economical and social transformations have led to a new demography, as well as to different family arrangements, which probably have affected the family enterprises. this theoretical essay approaches some of these transformations, pointing out the relationship between these transformations and the conception of family business. the analysis was structured based on the size of the family, the distance among generations and the power composition and distribution. concluding, it emphasizes the necessity to give new dimension to the perception of family enterprise, including different contemporary family arrange.
Identidade organizacional: um estudo de caso no contexto da cultura brasileira
Machado, Hilka Vier;
RAE eletr?nica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-56482005000100012
Abstract: derived from shared perceptions about the meaning of the organization, the organizational identity is related to culture. from this assumption, this study aim to understand an organization identity, considering cultural elements present in brazilian culture. it's about a case study, in which it was verified some factors that contributed to the organizational identification and identity: personal relationships, including paternalism in working relationships. these aspects contributed to produce feelings of safety and affiliation, internalized by organization's members and resulting in a social imaginary, with the symbolic union between organization and individuals. in addition it was also observed an association between personal growth and the growth of the organization, which reinforced the organizational identification and organizational identity.

The World-System of Giovanni Battista Riccioli and the Phases of Venus and Mercury  [PDF]
Flavia Marcacci
Advances in Historical Studies (AHS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ahs.2015.42011
Abstract: The Jesuit astronomer Giovanni Battista Riccioli (1598-1671) proposed an original astronomical system as an intermediate solution between the Copernican and the Ptolemaic systems. Many scholars describe his system as “geocentric”, and so does Riccioli. He uses the Tychonic solution by adding a lot of differences, for instance, the order of the orbits and the movement of Jupiter and Mars. In his astronomical work, Riccioli is rigorous and serious and offers a great quantity of observational data. The analysis of these results is crucial to understand the evolution of the Copernican question during the first half of the XVII century. The article will look at some general lines of Riccioli’s system, to understand how an astronomer of the XVII century really worked and to understand which problems the Copernican system could not resolve. Finally, I will try to consider some philosophical implications of this historical case.
Numerical Studies of Disordered Photonic Crystals
G. Guida
PIER , 2003, DOI: 10.2528/PIER02010805
Abstract: Since the first demonstration of a complete photonic band gap by E. Yablonovitch in 1987 [1], photonic band gap materials have attracted a very significant interest in Electromagnetism but also in Solid State Physics. Doped photonic crystals that have a point defect (a local disturbance) have been extensively studied with the emergence of this new area of Physics. They present localized modes in the band gap and triggered many potential applications. Fewer papers have been devoted to strongly disordered photonic crystals that are periodic on the average. These structures are disturbed on the overall feature and the defect corresponding is referred to as extended. Analogue at a first glance to amorphous semiconductors, these materials could present interesting properties. Moreover, manufacture of photonic crystals is still a real challenge for the optical domain and undesirable extended defects can appear leading to a compulsory study of the tolerances of periodicity for such new materials.

A dinamica entre lideran?a e identifica??o: sobre a influência consentida nas organiza??es contemporaneas
Davel, Eduardo;Machado, Hilka Vier;
Revista de Administra??o Contemporanea , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-65552001000300006
Abstract: the structural, social, and cultural composite of transformations which contemporary organizations are facing indicates a new dynamic in exercising leadership and a renewal in the way of conceiving and analyzing that exercise. this paper explores the sensitiveness of that dynamic developing a conceptual framework that considers leadership and identification as complementary phenomena. leaders' influence emerges from the significant ordering of reality of people that, simultaneously, identify themselves with and consent on that influence. both phenomena mobilize and articulate power, cognition, and emotion resources. that conceptual framework allows us to make a more accurate and up-to-date evaluation of leadership as a dynamic process that involves: (1) political as well as cognitive, and emotional issues; and (2) ordering as well as recognizing, and consenting processes.
