Five-dimensional AGT Relation and the Deformed beta-ensemble

Abstract: We discuss an analog of the AGT relation in five dimensions. We define a q-deformation of the beta-ensemble which satisfies q-W constraint. We also show a relation with the Nekrasov partition function of 5D SU(N) gauge theory with N_f=2N.

Abstract: We study an analog of the AGT relation in five dimensions. We conjecture that the instanton partition function of 5D N=1 pure SU(2) gauge theory coincides with the inner product of the Gaiotto-like state in the deformed Virasoro algebra. In four dimensional case, a relation between the Gaiotto construction and the theory of Braverman and Etingof is also discussed.

Abstract: We conducted a double-blind randomized controlled study of elderly individuals in a nursing home to investigate the effect of the consumption of jelly containing sea cucumber on their oral Candida load. The jelly contained a hydrolysate of the sea cucumber Stichopus japonicus, which contained triterpene glycosides called holotoxins. The holotoxins worked as a fungicide, and their minimum inhibitory concentrations for Candida albicans were 7 μg/mL. Eight individuals in the nursing home took the sea cucumber jelly for a week and their oral Candida were counted before and after the intervention. Nine individuals took a control jelly without S. japonicus. The sea cucumber jelly showed inhibitory effects on the oral Candida. Thus, daily consumption of the S. japonicus jelly has the potential to reduce the oral Candida load in the elderly in nursing homes.

We all physicist have long been believed that an elementary particle is a wave as well as a particle, but we discuss in this paper that an electron (probably all fermions) is always a particle. Author claim that quantum mechanics (QM) is not such mysterious as Bohr stated that the wave turn to the particle by observation. We can understand QM by natural human sense. The wave nature of electrons is only an appearance or a phenomena but not intrinsic or substantial. An electron is an individual body, which interferes with other individual electrons. Interference is the key word instead of the wave to understand the quantum mechanics. Interference produces the wave nature and the uncertainty. When we determine that an electron is nothing but a particle, we will see the true meaning of wave function and the Schr?dinger’s equation.

Abstract: As serotoninergic transmission plays a crucial role in higher brain function in mammals, the disturbance of this system will likely have significant effects on emotion and cognition. Previous studies have reported that chronic treatment with Specific Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) during both late pregnancy and lactation was associated with abnormal behavior in adult rats. These data imply that disturbances in serotoninergic transmission during neurodevelopment may have negative effects on both the structure and function of the resultant adult brain. Therefore, the effect of a single exposure to an SSRI or a tricyclic antidepressant that preferentially inhibits serotonin reuptake during the pre-weaning period was examined in adult mice. An oral infusion of paroxetine (70 mg/kg), fluvoxamine (250 mg/kg), clomipramine (180 mg/kg), or saline was administered on postnatal day 14. Starting at 11 weeks of age, mice were assessed using a comprehensive behavioral test battery. Mice treated with paroxetine demonstrated altered behavior on the open field and hole-board tasks; those treated with fluvoxamine had behavioral changes on the light-dark box, hole-board, and sucrose preference tasks, while alteration in forced swimming and cued fear behavior were noted in mice treated with clomipramine. These results suggest that even a single administration of an antidepressant could have profound effects on behavior in adulthood, although the effects might differ dependent on the specific drug that was administered.
Liver metastasis originating from colorectal cancer with macroscopic portal vein tumor thrombosis: a case report and review of the literature

Abstract: A 55-year-old Japanese man who had previously undergone surgery for adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon presented with a metastatic liver tumor accompanied by a macroscopic tumor thrombus in the right portal branch. Right lobectomy and removal of the tumor thrombus were performed, and the liver metastasis and tumor thrombus were successfully resected. Histopathological examination of the liver tumor revealed adenocarcinoma, consistent with that of the previous colon cancer, confirming that the liver tumor was a metastasis from the colon cancer. Our patient remains well without recurrence at 51 months after the liver surgery.The prognosis of patients with liver metastasis accompanied by a portal vein tumor thrombus remains unknown, but, considering several previous reported cases together with our case report, a better prognosis may be expected if the tumor is successfully removed by anatomical liver resection.Portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), with a reported incidence of PVTT of 30% to 70% [1-3]. A recent pathological study of metastatic liver cancer originating from colorectal cancer found microscopic tumor invasion in the intra-hepatic portal vein to be a relatively common finding in addition to HCC [4,5]. However, macroscopic tumor thrombi occupying the main portal branch are rare in patients with liver metastasis [6,7], including that from colorectal cancer (Table 1) [8-14].We report on a case of liver metastasis from colon cancer with macroscopic tumor thrombi in the right portal branch. Abstract: There are two types of master equations in describing nonequilibrium phenomena with memory effect: (i) the memory function type and (ii) the nonstationary type. A generalized Polya process is studied within the framework of a non-stationary type master equation approach. For a transition-rate with an arbitrary time-dependent relaxation function, the exact solution of a generalized Polya process is obtained. The characteristic features of temporal variation of the solution are displayed for some typical time-dependent relaxation functions reflecting memory in the systems. 1. Introduction The generalized master equation of memory function type [1] is a useful basis for analyzing non-equilibrium phenomena in open systems as where the kernel is conventionally assumed to have the product of a memory function with a transition rate as . The transition rate has the constraint with . This generalized master equation approach corresponds to the generalized Langevin equation of the memory function type [2, 3]. One can see many successful applications with long memory along the line of traditional formulation [1]. Looking around recent studies in complex open systems, there is an alternative approach based on a generalized non-stationary master equation [4] as The master equation in this form corresponds to the generalized Langevin equation of the convolutionless type, which is derived with the aid of projection operator method by Tokuyama and Mori [5]. The time-dependent coefficient may be written in the following form: . It is expected from the projection operator method [5] that the time-dependent function reflects the memory effect from varying environment in a different way associated with the memory function (cf. also H?nggi and Talkner [6]). The memory function (MF) formalism has been utilized in anomalous diffusion like Lévy type diffusion in atmospheric pollution, diffusion impurities in amorphous materials, and so on. The alternative convolution-less, non-stationary (NS) formalism gives only a small number of applications. The paper intends to exhibit a potential ability of the NS formalism by taking an arbitrary time-dependent function which is representing memory effect. The paper is organized as follows. Achievements and Challenges in Molecular Conductors

Abstract: Molecular solids are generally highly insulating. The creation of conducting molecular solids proved to be a major scientific challenge. As in the case of Si technology, the challenge started as impurity doping in band insulators and then developed into highly doped polymers, which are not crystalline. More conducting materials in crystalline forms have been realized in charge transfer (CT) complexes with two different kinds of molecules, where electrons are transferred between them in solids. In such CT complexes, not only conducting, but also even superconducting systems were achieved in 1980 and today more than 100 different superconductors are known. The most remarkable achievement in this direction was the realization of a truly metallic state in molecular solids based on a single kind of molecule. These are called single component molecular metals (SCMM) and consist of a rich variety of electronic properties. In these conducting molecular solids, CT and SCMM, many interesting electronic properties resulting from mutual Coulomb interactions and electron-phonon interactions have been explored so far, and these will be reviewed briefly in this article from a theoretical viewpoint. Challenges to come, based on these achievements, are also discussed at the end of this review.

Abstract: Large branchiopod studies were born and bred in the Danube basin in some Eastern European countries (the former Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Romania). The leading expert was the late Dr. Ján Brtek in Slovakia. Large branchiopods are usually habitants of such temporary lakes and ponds as inland bodies of fresh, mineralized, salt water or hypersaline. This article has two distinct goals: (1) to review the history of large branchiopod studies and (2) to draw attention to some of the scientific interest and value of ephemeral aquatic habitats, introducing my reminiscences of Dr. Brtek.
