Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the water content (wc) in different tissues of the kieffer (pyrus communis) and housui (pyrus pyrifolia) pear cultivars during dormancy, under mild winter conditions. plants from to the experimental orchard of embrapa clima temperado, pelotas, rs, brazil, were evaluated. a completely randomized block design, in a 3x4x5 factorial arrangement, consisting of three tissues (bud, bark and wood), four portions of branches (terminal, median, axial and spurs) and five sampling dates in 2005 (7/1, 8/3, 9/6, 9/23 and 10/13), distributed in split?plots, with three replicates, was used. there was a wc increase in the wood of the kieffer cultivar until the middle of the dormancy period and a subsequent decrease after this phase, which could be attributed to the increase in wc observed in buds after the satisfaction of chilling requirement and dormancy. in the cultivar housui, unsatisfactory chilling requirement, associated with the occurrence of high temperatures during the winter, reflected in the reduction of wc and in bud dehydration during dormancy. water dynamics in pear tree tissues is directly influenced by cold accumulation during dormancy period and depends on the cold requirement of each cultivar.
Brota??o de gemas em macieiras 'Imperial Gala' e 'Fuji Suprema' pelo uso de Erger? e nitrato de cálcio

Abstract: despite the high efficiency of some chemicals on budbreak induction of temperate fruit trees, the high toxicity showed by these compounds is one of the main problems related to its use. preliminary results indicated that erger?, an organic nitrogen compound, combined with calcium nitrate, has similar effect to hydrogen cyanamide, with the advantage of being less dangerous to the environment. thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of erger? and calcium nitrate as budbreak promoter in apple trees. the experiment was carried out in ca?ador/sc, in 2007, where was done the application of different budbreak promoters in 'imperial gala' and 'fuji suprema' apples. the budbreak promoters tested were erger? 3% + calcium nitrate 3%, erger? 5% + calcium nitrate 5%, erger? 7% + calcium nitrate 7%, mineral oil 3.2% + 0.34% hydrogen cyanamide and control (without application). it was evaluated occurrence dates of early, full and end blooming stages, budbreak of axillary and terminal buds, axillary budbreak uniformity and fruit set. the budbreak promoters increased significantly axillary and terminal budbreak, and it increased the budbreak uniformity and the blooming overlap of 'imperial gala' and 'fuji suprema' apples. because of negative effects on fruit set of 'imperial gala' apples, it is indicated erger? and calcium nitrate application at concentrations below 7%.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate calcium (ca) and boron (b) levels, in pear flower buds, on different locations, cultivars, period of the year and portion of bud. the experiments were carried out in two locations with different climatic conditions in southern brazil (embrapa clima temperado research centre, in pelotas-rs, and experimental station of empresa de pesquisa agropecuária e extens?o rural de santa catarina, in s?o joaquim-sc), during the winter of 2000 and 2001. three experiments were conducted, involving three cultivars, nijisseiki (xxth century), kousui and kieffer. the calcium and boron level were determined by the method adapted by freire (1998). the levels of calcium and boron stayed practically unaltered during the winter in the flower buds of cvs. kieffer and nijisseiki, in pelotas-rs. the cv. nijisseiki had higher levels of boron than that of cv. kieffer, more adapted to the region. since the beginning autumn until early winter there was an increase in levels of boron, in both places and cultivars. the highest boron level was found in the basal and in the medium part of flower buds, whereas the highest levels of calcium was in the basal part.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the behavior of three peach cultivars in relation to budbreak in branches with or without tipping off pruning submitted to different exposition cold periods. one-year-old branches of coral, eragil and rubidoux peach trees cultivars were submitted to chilling supplement (0, 312, 624 and 1248 cold units). after chilling treatments, half of branches were maintained intact and others were tipped off pruning through terminal bud remove. after this, the branches were kept in growth chamber at 25oc, and it was evaluated the percentage of budbreak in flower and vegetative buds at 15 and 30 days after the beginning of the exposure at 25oc. tipping off pruning increased budbreak in vegetative buds in all cultivars studied. the effect of tipping off pruning on budbreak in vegetative buds was variable depending on chilling intensity that the branches were submitted, being evidenced bigger effect of tipping off pruning in higher chilling exposure.

Abstract: this study was conduced with trees of pears garber (pyrus communis x pyrus pyrifolia). the aim of this work was to examine the effects of growth regulators substances as gibberellic acid (ga3), naphthaleneacetic acid, aminoetoxivinilglisine (avg) and tidiazuron (tdz) to increase the fruit set and to induce the parthenocarpy. during the period of full blossom, the bunches was pulverized with 13 different treatments: ga3 (50, 300, 500 mg.l-1), ana (50, 100, 200 mg.l-1), tdz (5, 15, 25 mg.l-1), avg (50, 100, 200 mg.l-1) and a control treatment with water. the insect pollination, was controled in 50% of branches. it was determined the total number of fruits established, the average of fruits established per bunch, the weight of fruits and number of seeds per fruit. between all treatments, the plants pulverized with tdz, at a concentration of 15 mg.l-1, showed the highest number of fruits established and the highest average of fruits established per bunch. it was observed an increasing in the weight per fruit and the most intense color on plants with tdz treatment. pears that received tdz treatments and those that presented less seeds per fruit showed greater deformity.

Abstract: O trabalho foi realizado em pereiras da cultivar Garber (Pyrus communis x Pyrus pyrifolia), com o objetivo de verificar o efeito de ácido giberélico (AG3), ácido naftalenoacético (ANA), aminoetoxivinilglisina (AVG) e tidiazurom (TDZ) no aumento da frutifica o e na indu o e desenvolvimento de frutas partenocárpicas. Durante a plena flora o, aplicaram-se sobre os cachos florais 13 diferentes tratamentos: (50; 300 e 500 mg.L-1), ANA (50; 100 e 200 mg.L-1), TDZ (5; 15 e 25 mg.L-1) e AVG (50; 100 e 200 mg.L-1), sendo que, na testemunha, foi aplicada somente água. A poliniza o entomófila foi controlada em 50% dos ramos. As variáveis avaliadas foram o número total e médio de frutas fixadas, peso fresco, número de sementes, deforma o e colora o das frutas. Dentre os tratamentos, o TDZ, na concentra o de 15 mg.L-1, proporcionou o maior o número total de frutas, número médio de frutas fixadas, promovendo aumento no peso e colora o das mesmas. As deforma es foram superiores nas peras tratadas com TDZ e naquelas com menor quantidade de sementes por fruta.
Influência do plástico branco, poda verde e amino quelant?-K na qualidade de pêssegos 'Santa áurea'

Abstract: fruit quality is influenced by climate, soil, cultivar, orchard management, time of harvesting and fruit handling at harvest and post harvest. one way of improving the fruit quality is through cultural practices. thus, this work had the objective of evaluating the effect of the white plastic, vegetative pruning and aminoquelant?-k, alone or the combination of the last with plastic or summer pruning, on the quality of peaches cv. santa aurea. the quality attributes evaluated quality were: visual percentage of red on the fruit surface, intensity of red in the epidermis, determined by the ciel*a*b * system, fruit mean weight, diameter and firmness, total soluble solids (tss) content on the flesh, total titratable acidity (tta) and the relation tss/tta. all the tested treatments increased the percentage of red on the fruit epidermis; the use of aminoquelant?-k, alone, resulted in greater acidity of the fruits; the best relation tss/tta was obtained by the use of the white plastic under the canopy and by the combination of that plastic with aminoquelant?-k.

Abstract: the objective of this research was to evaluate the bearing habit and yield of pear cultivars (pyrus communis) grafted onto quince (cydonia oblonga) and callery pear (p. calleryana) rootstocks. the experiment was carried out in the winter of 2009 and 2010, in a pear orchard conducted as central leader, at 1.0x5.0 m spacing, with three pear cultivars (carrick, packham, and williams) combined with one callery pear (clone d6 of p. calleryana) and 15 quince rootstocks. the following variables were assessed: percentage of vegetative spurs, reproductive spurs, vegetative brindles, reproductive brindles and bourses; total number of flower buds; yield per plant; and productive efficiency. bearing habit of pear cultivars is influenced by the rootstocks, mainly for reproductive spur formation. in general, there was an inverse relationship between the percentage of vegetative and reproductive spurs, and between productive efficiency and vigor for all scion and rootstock combinations. in order to enhance production, cultural management in orchards of the evaluated cultivars, especially on pruning, should be oriented according to the rootstock used and to the bearing habit of each combination.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of location, cultivar and time on the physical, morphological and physiological characteristics of pear flower bud, and possible envolvement with flower bud abortion, in the southern of brazil. two experiments were conducted in the year 2000, in three locations and three cultivars. volume, weight, length and bud diameter, dry weight of scales, inflorescence length, number of flower primordia per bud, inflorescence dry weight and internal necrosis degree of buds were evaluated. the occurrence of duplication of inflorescence and formation of a large number of flower primordia per buds in samples from locations with higher indexes of abortion were observed. asian pear cultivars had larger number of flower primordia per bud than the cv. kieffer (hybrid). in s?o joaquim's area, the pear has a better adaptation, characterized by a better formation of the floral structure. the asian pears, especially in pelotas, also showed alterations in flower primordia, such as: deformations, abscission, pistil necrosis, darkening of anthers and vascular tissues. the length of the inflorescence allowed the differentiation of cultivars according to time of resumption of their final flower development, being the 'kieffer' earlier than nijisseiki and housui cultivars.

Abstract: the budbreak promoters application is one of main management strategies used to decrease the problems of insufficient winter chilling on temperate fruit trees. because the influence of budbreak promoters on productive behaviour of plants, detecting this effects along of productive season became important. thus, this study was carried out during 2007/2008 season, in ca?ador, santa catarina state, brazil, aiming to evaluate different hydrogen cyanamide and mineral oil combinations on phenology, budbreak and apple fruit production. the experimental design was a randomized block, with six replications, in factorial arrangement (5x2), with five budbreak promoter treatments (1. control; 2. mineral oil 3.2%; 3. mineral oil 3.2% + hydrogen cyanamide 0.20%; 4. mineral oil 3.2% + hydrogen cyanamide 0.39%; 5. mineral oil 3.2% + hydrogen cyanamide 0.59%) and two cultivars (imperial gala and suprema's fuji). the budbreak promoters application anticipated and reduced the blooming period, increasing the blooming overlap between imperial gala and suprema's fuji cultivars. the budbreak promoters equalized and increased the budbreak in axillary and terminal buds, with the major budbreak level observed in imperial gala cultivar with 0.44% of hydrogen cyanamide and 3.2% of mineral oil treatment. the increase of hydrogen cyanamide concentration showed the tendency to decrease the fruit set. it was observed different treatment responses on production and mean fruit weight, probably to be related to fruit production predominance in different frutification structures.
