La cartografía como medio investigativo y pedagógico
Henry Osorio Campillo,Edilsa Rojas Sánchez
DEARQ : Journal of Architecture , 2011,
CITOCROMO P450 2A6 (CYP2A6) HUMANO Y SU RELACIóN CON EL CONSUMO DE TABACO
Osorio,José Henry;
Biosalud , 2010,
Abstract: the development of nicotine dependence is determined not only by social factors but also by individual psychological and biological factors. human cytochrome p450 2a6 (cyp2a6), the enzyme that catalyses the metabolism of nicotine, has been shown to have large interindividual and interethnic variability in expression and activity levels. the interindividual variation in metabolic activity may affect the metabolism of cyp2a6 substrates including nicotine, cotinine (the major metabolite of nicotine), several tobaccospecific procarcinogens, coumarin and many toxins. the present review analyses the scientific literature related to variations in cyp2a6 and tobacco consumption.
EFFECT OF ACETONITRILE CONCENTRATION ON ACYLCARNITINES MEASUREMENT BY TANDEM MASS SPECTROMETRY
Osorio,José Henry;
Biosalud , 2010,
Abstract: background: the several steps for acylcarnitine analysis by tandem mass spectrometry such as extraction, derivatisation, injection and others, can be influenced by some technical factors improving or impairing the levels of detection. objective: the present study evaluated the effect of different concentrations of the acetonitrile used during blood acylcarnitines measurement on the sensitivity obtained during the analysis. methodology: prior to acylcarnitine analysis by tandem mass spectrometry, samples were re-dissolved in different acetonitrile in water dilutions [50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100% (v/v)] and each single blood specimen was processed five times for each dilution. results: it was observed that by increasing the concentration of acetonitrile the intensity of acylcarnitine peaks significantly increased. however at the highest concentrations of acetonitrile, this reacted with the polystyrene material of the microtitre plates, and resulted in peaks appearing in acylcarnitine profiles, specifically at m/z 302. conclusion: a mixture of 70% v/v acetonitrile/water is recommended to use as optimum solvent to dissolve the extracts prior to blood acylcarnitine analysis by tandem mass spectrometry.
COMPARACIóN DE DOS TéCNICAS COMO HERRAMIENTA DIAGNóSTICA DE LA DEFICIENCIA DE CARNITINA ACILCARNITINA TRANSLOCASA
Osorio,José Henry;
Biosalud , 2012,
Abstract: objective: to compare two laboratory diagnosis techniques for carnitine acylcarnitine translocase deficiency, a rare inherited autosomal recessive disorder in fatty acid oxidation. materials and methods: fibroblasts of patients and controls were incubated with tritiated substrates and deuterated substrates. results: a severe depression for oxidizing the tritiated substrates was observed for the fibroblasts of patients with this disease; however it was not possible to establish a characteristic profile for the diagnosis of the disease using deuterated substrates. conclusion: the incubation of fibroblasts using tritiated substrates constitutes a good tool for laboratory diagnosis of patients suffering carnitine-acylcarnitine translocase deficiency, in contrast, incubation with deuterated substrates does not.
OPIáCEOS: MECANISMOS DE ACCIóN, METABOLISMO, Y RELACIóN CON EL SíNDROME DE ABSTINENCIA NEONATAL
Osorio,José Henry;
Biosalud , 2009,
Abstract: infants exposed to certain drugs in utero can become physically dependant on them and after birth they suffer the withdrawal symptoms, this is phenomenon is called neonatal abstinence syndrome (nas). infants with nas have multi-system dysfunction involving the central nervous, gastrointestinal and respiratory systems. the present review analyses the literature related to opiates consumption by pregnant women and nas.
EFFECT OF ANTICOAGULANT TYPE DURING THE BLOOD SAMPLE COLLECTION PROCESS ON THE DETERMINATION OF THE ACYLCARNITINE PROFILE IN BLOOD AND PLASMA
Osorio,José Henry;
Biosalud , 2010,
Abstract: background: the collection process for blood sampling is a very important factor that can influence the final results of some laboratory tests. the acylcarnitine determinations in blood are usually used for diagnosis and follow up of patients suffering certain inherited metabolic illnesses. objective: this study analyzed the possible influence of the type of anticoagulant used in blood sampling on the acylcarnitine profile. methodology: blood and plasma samples were collected using anticoagulants such as: lithium heparin, potassium edta, sodium fluoride-potassium oxalate, and sodium citrate. samples were also collected without the use of anticoagulants. acylcarnitine levels were assessed for each sample via tandem mass spectrometry. results: no significant differences were found among the anticoagulant used. conclusion: the type of anticoagulant has no effect on the acylcarnitine determination on blood or plasma. for this type of analysis any of the above mentioned anticoagulants can be used. abbreviations: esi-ms/ms, electrospray injection tandem mass spectrometry; iem, innate errors of metabolism.
CONSIDERACIONES ESPECíFICAS PARA EL ENTENDIMIENTO DEL SíNDROME DE MUERTE SUBITA DEL LACTANTE
Osorio,José Henry;
Hacia la Promoción de la Salud , 2007,
Abstract: sudden infant death syndrome (sids) is a complex, multifactorial disorder, the cause of which is still not fully understood. recent advances in research related to molecular genetics and pathophysiology performed in victims of sids show that this, like all other human conditions in health and disease represents the confluence of specific environmental risk factors interacting in complex metabolic ways. the present review analyses the general conditions needed to understand this syndrome.
Estudio de pacientes con aciduria glutárica tipo II, mediante la incubación de fibroblastos con ácidos palmítico y mirístico tritiados
Osorio Orozco,José Henry;
Iatreia , 2011,
Abstract: introduction: glutaric aciduria type ii (ga ii), or multiple acyl-coa dehydrogenase deficiency, is a disorder caused by deficiency of either electron transport flavoprotein or electron transport flavoprotein oxyreductase. it is an autsomal recessive metabolic disease, characterized by acidosis, hypoglycemia, organic aciduria, sweat-sock odour, and malformations in brain and kidneys. objective: to analyse the oxidation rate of tritiated substrates by fibroblasts of patients with ga ii. materials and methods: fibroblasts of two patients with ga ii were incubated with tritiated palmitic and myristic acids. results: oxidation of tritiated substrates by fibroblasts of patients with ga ii was very depressed (16%-18%) in comparison with controls. conclusion: diagnosis of ga ii may be confirmed in vitro by the studied test.
CUESTIONAMIENTOS éTICOS RELACIONADOS CON LA TERAPIA GéNICA PARA EL TRATAMIENTO DE ENFERMEDADES HEREDITARIAS
OSORIO,JOSé HENRY;
Luna Azul , 2011,
Abstract: the introduction of exogenous genetic sequences named transgenes is known as gene therapy and has the purpose of correcting genotypic and phenotypic alterations in the human organism. this therapy can be carried out in somatic cells or in germinal cells. the ethical questioning related to somatic gene therapy has to do basically with the potential risks for health and the informed consent while germ-line gene therapy has the potential to affect permanently future generations. since genic therapy involves much more than the simple alteration of genetic sequences, this revision presents the main ethical problems associated with gene therapy for inherited disease.
Evolution and changes in the physician-patient relationship
Osorio,José Henry;
Colombia Médica , 2011,
Abstract: the idealized vision of the physician-patient relationship was characterized by patient trust and physician availability, in a long-term relationship in which physicians knew many things about their patients and their families, being the physician a part of the patient's community. physician employers, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies have abruptly entered the once private relationship between physicians and patients, changing a true relationship into a simple encounter. the substitution of the generic terms physician and patient for provider and client mirrors the increased impersonality of the encounter based on the commercialization of medicine. the present review analyzes the situations, which have led to the progressive and unavoidable deterioration of the physician-patient relationship within a globalized society.
