Bastidas Orrego,Lina María; Montoya,Santiago Fernando; Velásquez Henao,Juan David;
Cuadernos de Administración , 2008,
Abstract: around the world, liberalization and deregulation processes have created new kinds of electrical power markets where each one has its own identity due to supply, demand, and regulation idiosyncrasies. the next step in this process is the integration of regional markets to obtain increased energy efficiency, complementariness, and energy source diversity. the andean region is not foreign to this phenomenon and there is already interest in commencing an integration process. however, the aspects related to such a process have not been analyzed. this article is a reflection on the main trends in the evolving andean region countries’markets; it proposes an approach based on using influence diagrams for the results obtained from a search by means and validates the identified trends with experts. the main trends found suggest a strong possibility of international electrical power exchange, technology ownership, demand growth, changes in market regulations, and greater environmental protection.
Velásquez Henao,Juan David; González Rivera,Lina María;
Cuadernos de Administración , 2006,
Abstract: modeling and forecasting exchange rates is a big economic headache. this paper uses an artificial neuronal network model to represent the colombian real exchange index dynamics because it describes the series dynamics better than a self-regressive linear model does, as may be appreciated in the result of the verosimilitud radius contrast. the model was accepted after applying a series of standard tests and contrasting the results against those obtained using a self-regressive linear model. the results indicated that the current value of a series solely depends on its previous value.

Modeling and forecasting exchange rates is a big economic headache. Abstract: waste water from the textile industry represents a major environmental and health problem because it contains azo dyes whose carcirogenic effect has been tested in research. biological treatment represents a valuable alternative for removing these dyes. the effect of trametes versicolor, pleurotus ostreatus and phanerochaete chrysosporium rot fungi on decoloration of water containing reactive black five (nr5) textile dye was evaluated in this work. immobilising the fungi on polyurethane foam and luffa sponge (luffa cylindrica) supports was studied in order to select the best support and the fungi having the best decolorisation. both supports were equally effective; however, the luffa sponge was selected as being a natural product. trametes versicolor produced the highest decolorisation percentages in four days (96%, 98% and 98% for 300 ppm, 150 ppm and 75 ppm nr5 concentrations, respectively) while lacase enzyme activity was 8 ul-1, 7 ul-1 and 5 ul-1 for each of them.

Abstract: objective: establishing the frequency of use and exploring the role of exclusive maternal breastfeeding for up to six months as a protection factor against prevalent diseases in children up to 5 years of age in a determined colombian population. materials and methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out in some kindergartens in the towns of palestina, ibagué and pereira (colombia). the study population was chosen by convenience sampling. base characteristics such as type of feeding, maternal breastfeeding time, complementary feeding time, respiratory disease, appendicitis, acute diarrheic disease, diabetes mellitus, dermatitis, gastroesophageal reflux, malnutrition, obesity and cardiorespiratory affection were evaluated. results: 311 children participated in the study. 92% maternal breastfeeding frequency was found (98.1% in ibagué, 90.5% pereira, 87.9% in palestina) and a significant association was found between maternal breastfeeding and bronchiolitis, gastroesophageal reflux, broncho-obstructive syndrome, malnutrition and cardiorespiratory affection. conclusions: the importance of maternal breastfeeding was confirmed as a protection factor for prevalent diseases during infancy.
Mamaní,Lina María;
Cuadernos de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales. Universidad Nacional de Jujuy , 2009,
Abstract: this essay analyzes the relation between human beings and the environment in the context of raising livestock in the quebrada of humahuaca (province of jujuy, argentina). the analysis is based on ethnographic research and on scholarly research conducted in other parts of the andes. the relation between human beings and the environment is symbolically mediated by three wild animals of the region - the fox, the condor, and the eagle. these animals symbolize to the shepherd what will happen in the near future to his or her farm or ranch. this phenomenon is referred to in the andes as 'se?as' [signs] that the people of the quebrada read in nature and interpret; these three wild animals produce 'se?as' that indicate of 'good luck' or 'bad luck.' the human being of the region does not produce as an individual, but rather in close relation with other beings around her/him, and with whom he shares the work of farm production. nature functions as a mediator of livestock production, and this mediation establishes a kind of 'kinship' between domesticated animals and non-domestic animals, which reveals the relationship amongst different species. the people of the quebrada interpret the signs that nature produces, and in this way construct meanings that frame their lives.
