Anterior Choroidal Artery Territory Stroke in Young Patient  [PDF]

Abstract:

Introduction: Stroke incidence in young patients is about 10 cases in 100.000, according to several European studies. In this age group arterial dissection is one of the main pathological mechanisms involved. The internal carotid’s artery (ICA) main supraclinoid branch is the anterior choroidal artery (AChA). The occurrence of infarction in its territory due to internal carotid dissection is considered to be a rare event and may have different clinical presentations due to anatomical variability. Clinical case: A 31-year-old male patient, without any known cardiovascular risk factors or chronic medication, presented with acute onset of stabbing right sided headache while practicing football. Visual disturbances and hemiparesis with hypesthesia of his left arm were also mentioned. On admission left homonymous hemianopsia, left hemiparesis and left extensor plantar reflex were present. Brain magnetic resonance showed hyperintensity of T2 and FLAIR signals and restricted diffusion pattern suggested acute/subacute infarctions in the thalamic and subcapsular area, corpus callosum, splenium and subcortical parietal right region. Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) of the brain showed reduction of the right ICA’s caliber, mainly of its supraclinoid segment in which a marked irregular stenosis was visualized, suggestive of arterial dissection. This stenotic segment included the origin of the AChA and of the posterior communicating cerebral artery with an exchange in their territories. Lumbar puncture results were normal as were analytical investigations which included CBC, sedimentation rate, syphilis serology and immunologic and prothrombotic screen. There were no phenotype characteristics suggestive of connective tissue disease. Conclusion: Trauma seems to be the most probable lesion mechanism for the occurrence of intracranial carotid’s dissection in this particular case, as the patient was practicing vigorous sports at time of onset. In view of great anatomic variability and multiple anatomical sites supplied by the AChA its occlusion will induce a wide range of clinical manifestations.

Representations, Educational Processes and Practices in Youth and Adult Field Education in Brazil  [PDF]

Abstract: The Field Education movement emerged in the Brazilian society in the last two decades, bringing to the national political scenario the role of social and trade union movements of the countryside in the affirmation and struggle in defense of a new paradigm of education and school for people living and working in the countryside—farmers, camping and agrarian reform settlers, rural workers, indians, quilombolas, among others. Parallel to the achievements of this movement, especially in the context of State public policies for countryside people, the subject of Field Education has gradually been consolidated in national academic productions. However, despite the increasing volume of work and scientific publications in the area, a balance of academic production reveals the existence of a theoretical gap Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in the field. This recognition of the reality of Youth and Adult Field Education in our society is an area yet to be mapped, and considering the existence of a range of practices and dispersed EJA experiences present in the everyday of the countryside that require more specific studies, the research program entitled Practices in Youth and Adult Education, Literacy and Educational Alternations emerged, whose purpose was to carry out a coordinated study network that would enable the systematic collection and production of data and analysis on the EJA experiences present in the rural reality of Brazil, emphasizing the dimensions of educational practices, processes and pedagogical dynamics constructed within these experiences. In this article, originated from this research program, our purposes are to characterize and analyze under the Field Education movement, the EJA experience in the field, called Agrarian Residency Program in its history, principles and political and pedagogical practices, highlighting the alternated training dynamics gestated in its inside and the social representations built by educators on the alternation. Among other aspects, the study results show that the Agrarian Residence Program, as an experience of Youth and Adult Field Education has become a transformation-propellant space in training professionals of Agricultural Sciences, highlighting both the construction of emancipatory pedagogical practices, and the new political and social relations between universities and social movements. In this respect, besides the processes of dialogical and collective training, the Agrarian Residence Program has also provided the students and educators with a set of experiences and reflections on the reality of

Abstract: this text explores the present government policies and programs in the field of training and identifies political lines marked by actions of focalized training, through distance courses, and by the open university of brazil. it analyses its relations to the transformation of the coordination for the advance of graduate personnel (capes) into an agency that regulates teachers' training. based on the brazilian common basis, it points out conditions for a global policy to train and professionalize the professionals of education in the terms advocated by the field of education and by the national association for the professional educators formation (anfope).

Abstract: this paper analyses the policies of teacher training focalizing on the directives on teachers' initial training for basic education in higher education. this legal document can be seen as the materialization of the multiple facets of the training policies, from the definition of competence and skills to the assessment of performance and curricular organization. the theme of assessment is assumed as closely linked to the issue of teacher training mainly because of the policies of teacher training and the adoption of the model of competence in the definition of the brazilian directives on teachers' initial training for basic education in higher education. the creation of a federative system of teacher competence certification indicates that we are experiencing the process of flexibilization of teacher work, which jeopardizes the historical fight of educators for the professionalization of teacher training.

Abstract: this work presents the discussion that have oriented the debate about the formation of educational professionals, recuperating the trajectory of the movement of the educators in the struggle for transformation and professionalization of teaching as represented actually by the national association for the professional educators formation (anfope), during the last 20 years. the collective construction of common national base in opposition to the formation policies and the proposal of a single school of formation which materializes anfope's principles for the reorganization of the courses of education professional formation in the universities, have oriented the actual debate of resistence to the official policies that propugnes hastening and fragmentation in the professional teaching formation.
