Revista Educa??o Especial , 2008,
Abstract: in addition to being a working tool to provide care to people, domiciliary visits can also be used as a teaching strategy in the health area. an exploratory, descriptive, and qualitative study was carried out among eight physiotherapy interns making domiciliary visits at a family health strategy unit and aimed to understand the meanings attributed to this type of health care activity in their learning process. the study used the focal group technique, which was recorded and transcribed for further data analysis and interpretation by means of a thematic analysis, which gave rise to three guiding themes: the experience of the domiciliary visits in primary care and the reorientation of the vocational training of the physical therapist; basic care and domiciliary visits in terms of the humanization of the physical therapy activity; and the reinterpretation of domiciliary visits in building learning. it is concluded that domiciliary visits are an important educational tool in the physiotherapy students' learning process; however, to effectively bring change to the training and health care models, it must be combined with other activities in the care network, such as group activities, participation in campaigns and joint efforts in health and in the local health board, among others.

Taking an innovating and transforming attitude of the social reality implies expanding and strengthening the integration between teaching, research and extension as a systemic learning process. This paper is meant to reflect and discuss the integration between teaching, research and extension in the training of health professionals, by means of a case study that demonstrates how this process has been performed. The qualitative approach was performed through participating observation technique. Thus, considering the universe and the complexity of human development, the need to facilitate meaningful learning, produced from the acquisition of socially contextualized knowledge, is implied. This training makes it possible for the professional to intervene in and about the reality, through interventions made with autonomy and competence, generating new knowledge and new practices enabled by the integration of teaching, research and extension.

Abstract: Amaryllis plants (Hippeastrum hybrid, in the family Amaryllidaceae) are cultivated in Brazil mainly for bulb export. Studies about the nutrient accumulation dynamics by the species are yet incipient when considering Brazilian cultivation conditions. The objective was to determine the nutrient accumulation in amaryllis “Orange Souvereign” cultivated in the field. The experimental design was entirely randomized with four replications and 14 collection periods (at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270, 300, 330, 360, 390, and 420 days after planting). Sampled plants were divided into leaves, bulb, and roots, which were used for determination of nutrient accumulation by leaves (aerial part) and bulb + roots (underground part). Nutrient accumulation of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn was calculated for each collection period, and then represented by curves of macro and micronutrient accumulation, as well as accumulation percentages for each plant part. For most macro and micronutrients, the interval of maximum accumulation fell from 301 to 420 days after planting, matching with the cycle final stage of plants cultivated in the field. Accumulated macronutrients by amaryllis plants along the cultivation cycle was, in g·plant-1: 1.57 N; 0.19 P; 2.58 K; 0.64 Ca; 0.20 Mg; and 0.29 S, following the descending order: K > N > Ca > S > Mg > P. Accumulated micronutrients, in mg·plant-1, was: 2.18 B; 1.17 Cu; 22.33 Fe; 2.19 Mn; and 4.09 Zn, following the descending order: Fe > Zn > Mn > B > Cu.

Abstract: intermediate-day onions (cv. gilmar) rooting patterns, soil availability no3-, leaf n concentration and commercial yield were evaluated in a field trial where four nitrogen fertilizer rates (0, 37, 74 and 111 kg n ha-1) were applied into four split applications, following a randomized block design with four replications. root length, soil availability no3-, and leaf n concentration were evaluated at four dates during growing season (33, 57, 96 and 127 days after planting). root length density (cm cm-3) at different sampling dates, locations (under the bulb and at 4 cm from the plant row) and depths was not affected by nitrogen level. for all sampling dates about 65 to 100 % of the root length was concentrated in the top 10 cm of the soil profile, under the bulb and the maximum root length density was 1.88 cm cm-3. the maximum rooting depth ranged from 20 and 30 cm, not exceeding 10 cm in depth, up to 32 days after planting. under the conditions of the experiment, results recommend an application of 30 kg ha-1 of nitrogen at planting and an increasing of the amount of nitrogen applied (16.2% of total n applied) at bulb initiation. marketable onion yield increased with the level of nitrogen but the production obtained with the application of 74 kg ha-1 (5.12 kg m-2) and 111 kg n ha-1 (6.59 kg m-2) did not differ significantly.
