Levetiracetam Extended Release as Adjuvant Therapy for the Control of Partial-onset Seizures
Hasan H. Sonmezturk and Nabil J. Azar
Journal of Central Nervous System Disease , 2012, DOI: 10.4137/JCNSD.S4126
Abstract: Extended release (XR) formulation of levetiracetam (LEV) is approved by the Food and Drug Administration as an add-on to other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) for adults with partial onset seizures. This is based on class-I evidence demonstrating significant seizure reduction in once daily dosing. Keppra-XR is marketed with the brand name of Keppra XR since 2008 (UCB Pharma). Its original immediate release (IR) formulation has been in the market since 2000. LEV has a unique molecular structure which is chemically unrelated to existing AEDs. The precise mechanism of action is unknown. Animal studies showed binding to synaptic vesicle protein SV2A, thought to be involved in modulating synaptic neurotransmitter release. LEV-IR is proven effective as adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures and myoclonic seizures. It was shown to be equivalent to carbamazepine as first-line treatment for partial-onset seizures. The extended release formulation added advantages such as better tolerance and increased compliance.

Obay H. Sabrie, Hasan S. Hasan, Rosli Salleh
Communications and Network (CN) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/cn.2011.34029
Abstract: Whenever the mobile station moves from the range of one access point and comes to the range of another access point a handoff process is occurred. This process takes a long time when using the IEEE 802.11 standard handoff and this delay affect the real time and multimedia applications. This paper provides a layer 2 handoff process for the IEEE 802.11 that is able to eliminate the scanning delay and reduce the total handoff delay.

Abstract: This study, which aims to investigate the cultivation effect of violence in television programmes on Secondary Educationstudents, has dealt with the cultivation effect of violence in television programmes in terms of Cultivation Theory, which emergedwithin the scope of Cultural Indicators Project developed by Gerbner et al. According to the theory of cultivation, watchingtelevision much increases viewers’ distrust of the others, sows the perception that the world is cruel and dangerous, and leads oneto think that violence in society is greater than it actually is (or than the true violence in society) and its effect is slow, accumulating and long-term. Moreover, it is in interaction with environmental factors and socio-demographic variables. The present study, which was conducted within the framework of Cultivation Analysis, one of the three fundamental pillarsof cultivation research, aims to reveal the effects of Secondary education students’ television viewing practices on theirperceptions of social reality. The main purpose of the study is to demonstrate the cultivation effect of television violence on highschool students. In accordance with the purpose in question, first whether there is a cultivation differential in terms of theresponses that those who watch TV a little and those who watch it a lot concerning social reality (the mean world syndrome, perception of violence, fear of crime, estimation of violence in society and the percentage of criminals in society) was analyzedusing T-Test and Chi-Square Test. Secondly, the cultivation effect of the level of television viewing (and other factors) on themean world syndrome was revealed using the Multiple Regression Analysis. Finally, the effects of the level of television viewing(and other factors) on fear of crime was investigated using Logistical Regression Analysis. The sample was determined according to the stratified sampling technique and the criteria for representing the population. The sample size was determined to be 674 according to 95 % reliability level and 0.03 sampling error; a total of 697 questionnaireswere administered and after the elimination of some inadequate and biased questionnaires, a total of 640 questionnaires were usedto analyze the data. The data, which were obtained from a field study that was conducted via a questionnaire form administered to640 students who attended 8 high schools selected to represent Secondary Education Schools in the city of Konya wereinterpreted through SPSS and Independent Sample T-Test, Chi-Square, Multiple Regression Analysis, Logistic RegressionAnalys

Journal of Kirsehir Education Faculty , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of this study is to deal with the influence of the changes made in the mathematics program (curriculum) for Grades 6, 7, and 8 on the basis of mathematic teachers demographic characteristics. In the research the survey method was used . Of the teachers employed in primary schools in the metropolis, towns, and villages in Izmir in 2006 and 2007, 600 mathematic teachers were included in the sample through the random sampling method. However, only 280 of the teachers answered the questionnaire. The data were analyzed through basic statistical functions in SPSS (13.0) program. The results obtained showed no significant difference between the opinions of the teachers on the bases of their gender, in-service training, schools where they are employed and their professional length of service. However, a meaningful difference was found between the teachers opinions on the new primary school-teaching mathematics program with respect to their acquaintance with the new program.

Journal of Kirsehir Education Faculty , 2012,
Abstract: In this study, pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards teaching profession were examined using different variables. The results reveals that, pre-service teacher candidates are interested in the teaching profession, enjoyed teaching profession, and have a higher level of commitment to teaching profession. Moreover pre-service teachers’ attitudes toward the professional responsibility and the social reputation of the teaching profession were positive according to the data analyzed. There is significant difference were found in terms of the interest of teaching profession, enjoying the profession, Professional commitment in terms of participants’ age and working in a job. However, there is no significant difference found according to the level of education, their graduation area, and the job sector. There is also significant difference was found in the reputation of teaching profession and professional responsibility in terms of the job sector pre-service teachers’ employed.

Open Journal of Civil Engineering (OJCE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojce.2014.44032
Abstract: The analysis of building structure in contact with soil involves an interactive process of stresses and strains developed within the structure and the soil field. The response of Piled-Raft Foundation system to the structure is very challenging because there is an important interplay between the component of building structure and the soil field. Herein, soil-foundation-structure interaction of buildings founded on Piled-Raft Foundation is evaluated through 3D-Nonlinear Finite Element Analyses using PLAXIS3D FOUNDATION code. The soil settlements and forces demand of the high-rise building structures and foundation is computed. The parametric study affecting the soil-foundation-structure response has been carried out. The parameters such as construction phasing, sequential loading, building aspect ratios, soil failure models and thickness proportion of soil field stiff layer, are considered. It is concluded that the interaction of building foundation-soil field and super-structure has remarkable effect on the structure.

Open Journal of Earthquake Research (OJER) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojer.2015.41001
Abstract: Increasing buildings’ resistance to earthquake forces is not always a desirable solution especially for the building contents that are irreplaceable or simply more valuable than the actual primary structure (e.g. museums, data storage Centre’s, etc.). Base isolation and seismic dampers can be employed to minimize inter-story drifts and floor accelerations via specially designed isolation and dampers system at the structural base, or at higher levels of the superstructure. In this research, we’ll examine the response of buildings isolated using isolation system hybrid consisting of Lead-Rubber Bearings (LRB), Flat Sliding Bearings (FSB), with the addition of Rotation Fiction Damper (FD) at the base, then compare the results with buildings that have traditional foundation, in terms of the (period, displacement and distribution shear force and height of the building). It conducts TIME HISTORY seismic analysis for some varying height buildings (eight, twelve, sixteen, and twenty stories), with help of SAP2000 using an earthquake acceleration-time history for (El- Centro). The results show that the use of insulation system Hybrid has had a significant impact on improving the performance of origin in terms of reducing displacements and base shear with in-creasing height of the building, but has had a negative impact on the drift, which leads to an in-crease in drift with the increased flexibility of the building.
