MAEB: Routing Protocol for IoT Healthcare  [PDF]

Healthcare is one of the most promising applications of Internet of Things. This paper describes a prototype for the IoT healthcare systems. We propose the Movement-Aided Energy-Balance (MAEB) routing protocol. The movement and energy information of the neighbor Coordinators are collected and stored in the neighbor discovery procedure. The MAEB forwarding is used to select the most suitable neighbor to forward the data. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance than the other three routing protocols.

Production of Reactive Oxygen Species and Antioxidant Metabolism about Strawberry Leaves to Low Temperatures

Abstract: This study examined the influence of low temperature on the production of reactive oxygen species and antioxidant metabolism in two strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) cultivars (cv. Zoji and Toyonaka). Low temperature treatment was imposed by maintaining the plants at 0? for 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h in an artificial intelligent growth chamber. During the period of low temperature treatments, the activities of peroxidative (POD), superoxide disumutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), dehydroascorbate (DHAR), glutathione reductase (GR), the production of O2- and H2O2, as well as the contents of antioxidant such as dehydroascorbate and reduced glutathione were up-regulated exception of the contents of ascorabte and chlorophyll in compared with the control. Meanwhile, cv. Toyonaka showed more tolerant to low temperatures than cv. Zoji since it showed higher activities of antioxidative enzymes, more contents of osmolytes (proline and soluble sugar) and less lipid peroxidation during the low temperature treatments. The present study suggested that plant had signal molecules sensing the environmental stress, following erecting its defensive system protective them against the damage caused by stress environment. However, if the stress were too powerful, plants could not response to acclimate that stress, the plants would be injured or even be dead finally. In the two cultivars examined, cv. Toyonaka has a more efficient antioxidant system against low temperature than cv. Zoji.
Cloning of 3’ End cDNA of Ascorbate Peroxidase Gene from Fragaria × ananassa cv. Toyonaka

Abstract: A fragment of 3’ end cDNA of apx in Fragaria × ananassa cv. Toyonaka was cloned by rapid amplification of cDNA 3’ end (3’RACE) PCR. By joining the sequence with the known fragment sequence which we had submitted to GenBank (FJ896040), a 3’-end partial cDNA of 672bp was obtained, encoding 140 amino acids. The sequence contained the corresponding coding sequence of 424bp long including a stop codon TAA, and the 3’-untranslated region(3’UTR) of 248bp including a potential polyadenylation signal (AAATAA) and poly(A) of 28bp long. Homology analysis of nucleotide sequence and deduced amino acid sequence on the apx gene showed that it shared high homology with different plants species, among which it shared the highest sequence homology with Fragaria × ananassa cv. Yoho.
Comparison and Improvement of Different Methods of RNA Isolation from Strawberry (Fragria * ananassa)

Abstract: Isolation of high-quality RNA from different strawberry tissues is often affected by the presence of high levels of contamination by polysaccharides and phenolic compounds. By the methods of improved CTAB, SDS, and guanidinium thiocyanate, total RNA was isolated from leaves of strawberry. The result indicated that total RNA is of high quality and undegraded by using CTAB. However, it was difficult to isolate total RNA from leaves of strawberry by using guanidinium thiocyanate, and total RNA could be extracted by using SDS with low concentration, impurity and degradation in some degree. After comparing, an improved 3% CTAB3 was used to isolate RNA from tissues of strawberry, and the isolated RNA was good enough for further applications. After RT-PCR, the 699 bp sequence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) gene was obtained to identify the quality of total RNA from strawberry. In this experiment, improved 3% CTAB3 method could be regarded as a simple, rapid, economic and convenient method for the RNA isolated from strawberry.
Cloning and Expression Analysis of an Ascorbate Oxidase (AO) Gene from Strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa cv. Toyonaka)

Abstract: In this study, a total 1737 bp ascorbate oxidase (AO) gene encoding a 578 amino acid protein was cloned from strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa cv. Toyonaka). Real-time quantitative expression analysis was conducted on FaAO gene of strawberry fruits during 7 developmental stages and in 5 strawberry tissues. The results revealed that during 7 fruit developmental stages, FaAO expressing level gradually increased in yonger stages, and declined dramatically in maturing stages, in which it could barely be detected. According to experimental results, we can conclude that FaAO expresses at a higher level in younger fruits, and lower in latter stages. This could be related to the fact that younger fruits are growing actively, and FaAO has a significant effect on facilitating fruit growth. Results for expression in 5 tissues indicated the highest expression was detected in flowers, and the lowest in fruit tissue (at full red stage). One of the possible reasons is that intense respiration and high ethylene synthesis occur in the mature fruits, repressing the expression of FaAO gene in strawberry fruits. Also, it could be a reason why the ascorbic acid (AA) content in mature fruits is higher than that in other tissues and stages. The differences of expression results among 7 developmental stages and 5 tissues indicated a novel expression pattern of FaAO. We propose that FaAO is correlated with strawberry growth and development, the depression of the FaAO expression can lead to apparent accumulation of AA in strawberry plant.
RNA-Seq Analysis of Cocos nucifera: Transcriptome Sequencing and De Novo Assembly for Subsequent Functional Genomics Approaches

Abstract: Background Cocos nucifera (coconut), a member of the Arecaceae family, is an economically important woody palm grown in tropical regions. Despite its agronomic importance, previous germplasm assessment studies have relied solely on morphological and agronomical traits. Molecular biology techniques have been scarcely used in assessment of genetic resources and for improvement of important agronomic and quality traits in Cocos nucifera, mostly due to the absence of available sequence information. Methodology/Principal Findings To provide basic information for molecular breeding and further molecular biological analysis in Cocos nucifera, we applied RNA-seq technology and de novo assembly to gain a global overview of the Cocos nucifera transcriptome from mixed tissue samples. Using Illumina sequencing, we obtained 54.9 million short reads and conducted de novo assembly to obtain 57,304 unigenes with an average length of 752 base pairs. Sequence comparison between assembled unigenes and released cDNA sequences of Cocos nucifera and Elaeis guineensis indicated that the assembled sequences were of high quality. Approximately 99.9% of unigenes were novel compared to the released coconut EST sequences. Using BLASTX, 68.2% of unigenes were successfully annotated based on the Genbank non-redundant (Nr) protein database. The annotated unigenes were then further classified using the Gene Ontology (GO), Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases. Conclusions/Significance Our study provides a large quantity of novel genetic information for Cocos nucifera. This information will act as a valuable resource for further molecular genetic studies and breeding in coconut, as well as for isolation and characterization of functional genes involved in different biochemical pathways in this important tropical crop species.
Cancer Chemosensitivity Testing: Review  [PDF]

Since chemotherapy started in 1940s, chemosensitivity testing has been both a very attractive field and one fraught with potential pitfalls. Many methods were developed and brought initial promises, yet later ending in disappointment and were eliminated. For example, in the 1970s clonogenic assay was generally believed to be the best testing method for predicting clinical outcome. However, technical problems including low evaluation rate limited its use. Currently, MTT, ATP, DISC and Kern’s assay hold better promises. Since the 90s, the study of molecular biology has been progressing rapidly. It accelerated the understanding of molecular mechanisms of drug response. Numerous papers were published, but only few techniques can be applied in clinical practice. This review summarizes the controversies and current progress of chemosensitivity assays based on available online information, and makes a suggestion about their future routine practice.

Reflections on Local Specialties and Gastronomic Tourism  [PDF]

Abstract: Local food as an essential part of tourist experience has aroused many scholars’ attention, and accumulated a wealth of research results. In 2000, scholars who were inspired by the theme of endless food festivals and other food-related activities, put forward gastronomic tourism. It has now become an important branch of special-interest tourism. From only one of the six elements of tourism attractions to gastronomic tourism, the relationship of local food and tourism has become increasingly close. Giving the scarcity of research on tourist food preferences and motivations of gastronomic tourism, this paper aims to advance the understanding of gastronomic tourism by using indepth interviews. The study explores motivational factors for local food and tourist food preferences when traveling in different regions of China. Its findings indicate that most Chinese tourists treat local food as the extension of the daily dietary experience. Some recommendations are therefore offered in the study with the hope of better meeting the diverse dietary needs of tourists.
An Empirical Analysis of the Impact of RMB Exchange Rate Fluctuation on Textile and Clothing Export of Guangdong  [PDF]

Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to analyze if RMB appreciation is the reason for the decline of Guangdong textile and garment exports and how to make textile and garment industry of Guangdong province break through the bottleneck of development, so as to achieve a qualitative leap in the context of the RMB exchange rate fluctuations and rising production costs. Five parts are included, the first part is introduction, which elaborates the research significance and literature review; the second part is about data and research methods; the third part is an empirical analysis of the impact of RMB exchange rate fluctuation on textile and clothing export of Guangdong; the fourth part is the conclusion analysis, while the last part are policy suggestion, which includes three aspects, government industry and enterprise themselves. In theory, the appreciation of the exchange rate will reduce the export price advantage to reduce exports. However, in this paper, the VAR and VEC models were constructed by using the monthly data of Guangdong textile and clothing export (LNEX), RMB real exchange rate (LNER) and purchasing price index (LNPPI) in 2007-2014, finding that Although LNEX has a co-integration relationship with LNER in the long run, LNER is not the Granger Cause of LNEX, while LNPPI passes the test of causality; Impulse response curves show that LNER has a negative impact on LNEX in the short term, while there is no shock effect for a long time; Variance decomposition analysis shows that contribution of LNER to LNEX was 0, both in the long term and short term, while the long-term contribution of LNPPI to LNEX is about 8%.
An Applied Study to Image-G Transmission in Chinese Literary on Gestalt Perception Laws  [PDF]

Abstract: As a significant school in contemporary cognitive science, gestalt psychology provides theoretical framework for the multidimensional research on cognitive study. The organization of gestalt perceptual principle provides conceptual model to the psychophysical field and has an overwhelming impact on various gestalt perception laws. Gestalt perception laws’ major theoretical perspectives make them as the methodological principle of gestalt image (image-G) study in cognitive translation which could be viewed from both mental and conceptual perspectives. By employing gestalt perception laws, the paper focuses on making a tentative and exploratory study of gestalt image transmission in Chinese literary translation and thus aims to discover translators’ conceptual mental experience of image-G transmission in Chinese literary translation through their cognitive processing.
