Caregiver- Is There A Hidden Patient?
Handa G
Indian Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation , 2009,
Abstract: In our routine practice it is not a uncommon site to attend to the patients attendants’musculoskeletal and psychological problems. The patients may be an in-patient or outpatient, attending hospital for rehabilitation or any other chronic diseases like CoronaryArtery Disease, cancer, depression, child hood disabling conditions etc. What we deal withis only the tip of the iceberg but deep down there lies the whole problem which as yet has notachieved much attention in the routine health care.
Multiple vasculogenic disabilities : a challenge in rehabilitation.
Handa G,Singh U
Neurology India , 2001,
Abstract: A 37 year old male presented with left hemiplegia, left below knee amputation, right partial foot amputation and claudication pain. The limitations in the rehabilitation management in such a high-risk patient are multiplied. The appreciable benefits from supervised rehabilitation and judicious goal setting can help in improving the functional status and retard the disease progression in such patients. This study highlights that coexisting cerebrovascular, coronary and peripheral vascular diseases can pose a real challenge and can result in multiple disabilities.
Pulse Wave Velocity and Electroneurophysiological Evaluation in patients of Rheumatoid Arthritis
G Sharma, S Sood, R Handa, H Singh
Internet Journal of Medical Update - EJOURNAL , 2011,
Abstract: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease of undetermined etiology involving the synovial membranes and articular structures of multiple joints and is also associated with carditis, pleuritis, hepatitis, peripheral neuropathy and vasculitis. The present study was undertaken to investigate arterial stiffness using carotid-radial and femoral-dorsalis pedis pulse wave velocity measurements and electrophysiological tests for peripheral nervous system involvement. 25 patients (aged between 20-60 years) with rheumatoid arthritis according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology and 25 control subjects of the same age and sex were recruited. In the motor conduction studies, out of 25 patients of Rheumatoid arthritis, 6 had clinical evidence of peripheral neuropathy. 11 patients showed pure sensory neuropathy (44%), 10 showed mixed sensory motor neuropathy (40%) while 4 showed normal motor and sensory conduction velocity. Two patients (8%) showed features of entrapment neuropathy of median nerve i.e. feature of Carpal tunnel syndrome. In the pulse wave velocity evaluation statistically significant increase in pulse wave velocity between femoral-dorsalis pedis and carotid-radial artery segments was observed in Rheumatoid arthritis patients as compared to the control group. Measurement of carotid-radial and femoral-dorsalis pedis PWV may provide a simple and non-invasive technique for identifying patients at increased risk of vascular disease in Rheumatoid arthritis.
Early diagnosis of filarial pleural effusion
Marathe A,Handa V,Mehta G,Mehta A
Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology , 2003,
Abstract: This paper describes a case of pleural effusion due to filariasis. Microfilaria of Wucheraria bancrofti were detected in the pleural fluid on cytological examination. Treatment with diethylcarbamazine cleared the pleural effusion.

Newer trends in the management of psoriasis at difficult to treat locations: Scalp, palmoplantar disease and nails
Handa Sanjeev
Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology , 2010,
Abstract: Psoriasis is a common, chronic, inflammatory disease with a wide range of clinical presentations. The disease severity ranges from mild to severe. Plaque type of psoriasis is the most common. A number of factors like previous treatment history and comorbid conditions influence the treatment of psoriasis in an individual patient. Location of the lesions is also an important consideration. Psoriasis localized to certain areas of the body like scalp, nails, palms and soles remains difficult to treat. These sites have been referred to as the difficult locations in literature. This article covers the management of psoriasis limited to these special areas.
Software Quality Analysis by Object Oriented Approach in Design Phase Using UML
Anand Handa
International Journal of Computer Technology and Electronics Engineering , 2011,
Abstract: Software Quality is the degree to which a finished product conforms to its specifications. The earlier a fault is detected and is removed the easier it is to fix. Object oriented metrics focus on the combination of functions and data as an integrated object. Object oriented paradigm substantially improves productivity due to the effect of reuse. Requirement specifications, designs and test plans are all artifacts that could potentially be fully or partially be reused in different projects.Object O

The two-parameter Poisson--Dirichlet point process
Kenji Handa
Mathematics , 2007, DOI: 10.3150/08-BEJ180
Abstract: The two-parameter Poisson--Dirichlet distribution is a probability distribution on the totality of positive decreasing sequences with sum 1 and hence considered to govern masses of a random discrete distribution. A characterization of the associated point process (that is, the random point process obtained by regarding the masses as points in the positive real line) is given in terms of the correlation functions. Using this, we apply the theory of point processes to reveal the mathematical structure of the two-parameter Poisson--Dirichlet distribution. Also, developing the Laplace transform approach due to Pitman and Yor, we are able to extend several results previously known for the one-parameter case. The Markov--Krein identity for the generalized Dirichlet process is discussed from the point of view of functional analysis based on the two-parameter Poisson--Dirichlet distribution.
