Segura,Maria de Nazaré de Oliveira; Monteiro,Hamilton Antonio de Oliveira; Lopes,Ernani da Silva; Silva,Orlando Vaz da; Castro,Francisco Corrêa; Vasconcelos,Pedro Fernando da Costa;
Revista de Saúde Pública , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89102003000300020
Abstract: it is first reported the detection of aedes (stg) albopictus mosquitoes in state of pará, brazil, in the urban area of medicilandia, a municipality far 90 km from altamira, where 42 adult mosquitoes were baited using human attraction. all mosquitoes were pooled and inoculated into c6/36 and suckling mice in attempts for virus isolation. no virus was isolated. the occurrence of aedes albopictus in urban areas of the amazon region is of concern since dengue and yellow fever viruses are endemic in the amazon and thus there is a potential risk for this mosquito species to become infected with both viruses.

Revista de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89102006000500027
Abstract: for the first time, the occurrence of aedes (stegomyia) albopictus in an urban area of the city of fortaleza, northeastern, brazil, is reported. from january to july 2005, ovitraps were used to collect eggs from aedes spp., which were kept under laboratory conditions to develop into the adult phase. the resultant mosquitoes were identified and subjected to dengue virus isolation tests. thirteen specimens of aedes albopictus, all females, were identified. no dengue virus was isolated in any of the mosquito pools. even though aedes albopictus has not been incriminated in brazilian dengue outbreaks, the possibility of dengue virus transmission by these mosquitoes cannot be dismissed.

Invenio , 2005,

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the different roof plants and soil nitrogen fertilization in weed suppression on winter irrigated common bean. the experimental scheme used was randomized blocks in subdivided parcels, consisting on four blocks and four replications soil management coverage was used within the plots (millet, crotalaria juncea, without coverage and spontaneous vegetation).subplots used the presence and absence of nitrogen,on coverage,at 20 dae .dry and wet weight of the plants were evaluated before incorporation into the soil. after 35 days of the emergence of the bean plant, were assessed the dry mass, the number of species, the number of total weeds per m2 and the percentage of weed incidence (visual observations). the results have shown that the soil with crotalaria gave greater suppression on weeds, due to the amount of mass in the soil. the fertilization in coverage influenced significantly the production of dry mass of weeds. the accelerated release of nitrogen by crotalaria favors the occurrence and establishment of some species of weeds, giving high competitiveness on the part of the weed and consequently favoring dry mass production.
Influence of anatomical barriers on maxillary incisor root resorption after orthodontic treatment with premolar extractions
Oliveira, Antonio Geraldo de;Castro, Fabiana Guilhermina Ferreira;
Dental Press Journal of Orthodontics , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S2176-94512012000200015
Abstract: introduction: apical root resorption is a frequent and occasionally critical problem in orthodontic patients undergoing induced tooth movement. one of the factors that might influence prognosis, especially in maxillary incisors, which most frequently present resorptions, are the so-called the anatomical barriers; that is, proximity of the buccal and palatal cortical bones to the maxillary incisor roots. objective: the purpose of this research was to investigate whether patients with excessive vertical growth really present a small distance between the alveolar cortical bones and the maxillary incisor roots, and whether there is a correlation between this distance and the root resorption index in comparison with patients presenting horizontal growth. methods: the sample comprised orthodontic records of 18 patients with extraction planning of first maxillary premolars and treatment by the standard and/or preadjusted edgewise brackets. their initial and final periapical radiographs were evaluated to determine the amount of root resorption that occurred. results: on the palatal side, patients with excessive vertical growth (group 2 - sn-gogn > 43o) showed a narrower alveolar bone than the horizontal growth patients (group 1 - sn-gogn < 29o). however, the distance between the buccal cortical bone and the central incisor root apex showed no significant difference between groups 1 and 2; conclusions: it was concluded that there are no correlations between the proximity of buccal cortical bone, maxillary incisor roots and the root resorption index.

Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2004000300012
Abstract: the induced defense system of plants is activated after the occurrence of damage by a herbivore. the objective of this work was to evaluate whether plants of eucalyptus grandis previously attacked by larvae of thyrinteina arnobia become resistant to cutting by the leaf-cutting ant atta sexdens rubropilosa. there was no significant difference in the lapse of time spent by the workers of this ant before they started cutting plants previously attacked or not. there was significant reduction in the size of leaf fragments cut by the ants. it was concluded that plants previously attacked were less attractive to the leaf cutter due to the activation of their induced defense system.
