Co-Integration Study of Relationship between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth
Haitao Sun
International Business Research , 2011, DOI: 10.5539/ibr.v4n4p226
Abstract: Based on basic theories and methods of co-integration study, in this paper the author chooses data of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as samples and makes a co-integration study of relationship between FDI and economic growth. Granger Causality Test results show that China’s economic growth would inevitably cause a rise of FDI and the relationship tends to be a one-way causality. Error correction term has a stronger conversely-adjusted effect on the long-term equilibrium relationship between economic growth and FDI.

Open Journal of Depression (OJD) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojd.2014.35022
Abstract: Objective: Both of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and estrogen can modulate emotion and cognition function in post-menopause women, moreover SSRIs can influence estrogen system in rats and aquatic wildlife but most of them for reproductive ability. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible relationship between SSRI, estrogen, and emotion and cognition in post-menopause women with anxiety and depressive symptoms .Methods: A double-blind, randomized controlled trials of Paroxetine, an SSRI (n = 44), versus placebo (n = 38) for 6 months in post-menopausal women with anxiety and depressive symptoms. For screening anxiety, depression and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), we use the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) and the Chinese Version of the Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA-CV). And sex hormones were measured by ELASE method which is serum estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Results: Paroxetine increased serum E2 and decreased LH, FSH significantly (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, HAM-A and HAM-D scores declined and MoCA-CV score raised by Paroxetine (P < 0.05). We also found that a negative association between E2 and scores of HAM-A and HAM-D at pre-treatment and post-treatment of Paroxetine (HAM-A: R = ?0.27, R = ?0.24; HAM-D: R = ?0.65, R = ?0.37), while a positive correlation between E2 and MoCA-CV scores (R = 0.52, R = 0.47). Conclusions: This founding suggests that SSRI can increase serum estrogen levels and the change of estrogen may be one of mechanism in SSRI’s improve emotion and cognitive function in post-menopausal women.

Abstract: An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary pyridoxine on the gene expression of appetite-regulating peptides in the hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract of rabbits. Thirty-two rabbits were randomly divided into 2 treatments for 8 weeks (16 replicates/group and 1 rabbit/replicate). The treatments were fed a basal diet (control, measured pyridoxine content is 4.51 mg/kg) and the basal diet with a pyridoxine supplementation at 10 mg/kg (pyridoxine, measured pyridoxine content is 14.64 mg/kg). The results showed that dietary pyridoxine did not significantly alter the mRNA levels of neuropeptide Y, agouti related peptide, pro-opiomelanocortin and cocaine, amphetamine regulated transcript, peptide YY and cholecystokinin in arcuate nucleus, peptide YY in jejunum and ileum, and cholecystokinin in duodenum, jejunum and ileum (P > 0.05). Compared with the control, the mRNA levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone and melanocortin 4 receptor in paraventricular nuclei and peptide YY in duodenum were significantly decreased after pyridoxine treatment (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the appetite genes of melanocortin 4 receptor and corticotropin-releasing hormone in paraventricular nuclei and peptide YY in duodenum are involved in the pyridoxine-caused hyperphagia.
A Numerical Approach to a Nonlinear and Degenerate Parabolic Problem by Regularization Scheme  [PDF]
Haitao Cao
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2014.25012
Abstract: In this work we propose a numerical scheme for a nonlinear and degenerate parabolic problem having application in petroleum reservoir and groundwater aquifer simulation. The degeneracy of the equation includes both locally fast and slow diffusion (i.e. the diffusion coefficients may explode or vanish in some point). The main difficulty is that the true solution is typically lacking in regularity. Our numerical approach includes a regularization step and a standard discretization procedure by means of C0-piecewise linear finite elements in space and backward-differences in time. Within this frame work, we analyze the accuracy of the scheme by using an integral test function and obtain several error estimates in suitable norms.
Synthesis and Odor Evaluation of Five New Sulfur-Containing Ester Flavor Compounds from 4-Ethyloctanoic Acid
Yuping Liu,Haitao Chen,Decai Yin,Baoguo Sun
Molecules , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/molecules15085104
Abstract: Five sulfur-containing flavor compounds were synthesized for the first time by the reaction of 4-ethyloctanoyl chloride with sulfur-containing alcohols or mercaptans. The synthesized compounds are 3-(methylthio)propyl 4-ethyloctanoate, 2-methyl-3-tetrahydro-furanthiol 4-ethyloctanoate, 4-methyl-5-thiazoleethanol 4-ethyloctanoate, 2-furan-methanethiol 4-ethyloctanoate and 2-methyl-3-furanthiol 4-ethyloctanoate. These five synthetic sulfur-containing ester flavor compounds all have meaty odor and might be used in foods if approved for this purpose in the future.

Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2009, DOI: 10.1107/s160053680902217x
Abstract: The title compound, C60H88O4·4CHCl3·2H2O, is the alkylated product of 5,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butylcalix[4]arene. It adopts a distorted cone conformation which leads to an open cavity. All the phenolic rings are tilted so that their tert-butyl groups are pitched away from the calix cavity. Two opposite aromatic rings are close to being perpendicular to one another [dihedral angle 85.0 (2)°], while the other pair of opposite rings is almost parallel [dihedral angle 8.1 (2)°], and adjacent phenolic rings are almost perpendicular [dihedral angles 82.4 (1) or 87.9 (1)°]. In the crystal, the water molecule and calixarene interact by way of O—H...O hydrogen bonds.

Abstract: The title molecule, C14H18Cl4, possesses a crystallographically imposed inversion centre, which coincides with the centre of benzene ring. In the absence of classical intermolecular interactions, van der Waals forces help the molecules to pack in the crystal.
