Entropy Bound with Generalized Uncertainty Principle in General Dimensions

Abstract: In this letter, the entropy bound for local quantum field theories (LQFT) is studies in a class of models of the generalized uncertainty principle(GUP) which predicts a minimal length as a reflection of the quantum gravity effects. Both bosonic and fermionic fields confined in arbitrary spatial dimension $d\geq4$ ball ${\cal B}^{d}$ are investigated. It is found that the GUP leads to the same scaling $A_{d-2}^{(d-3)/(d-2)}$ correction to the entropy bound for bosons and fermions, although the coefficients of this correction are different for each case. Based on our calculation, we conclude that the GUP effects can become manifest at the short distance scale. Some further implications and speculations of our results are also discussed.
STAT1 signaling is required for optimal Th1 cell differentiation in mice

Abstract: Although IFN-γ alone does not prime type I T helper cell (Th1) differentiation, the loss of IFN-γ signaling leads to impaired Th1 phenotype: IFN-γ receptor-deficient (Ifngr / ) Th1 cells fail to permanently repress IL-4 expression. They can differentiate into IL-4-producing cells under Th2-inducing conditions. These observations suggest that IFN-γ signaling plays a critical role in silencing Il4 gene in Th1 cells and stabilizing Th1 phenotype. IFN-γ signaling has been further shown to inhibit IL-4 expression by inhibiting STAT6 phosphorylation. This work aims to study the mechanism by which STAT1, the downstream molecule that transduces IFN-γ signaling, may mediate suppression of IL-4 expression in Th1 cells. The results show that STAT1-deficient naive CD4+ T cells express a reduced level of IFN-γ as well as an elevated level of IL-4. These cells exhibit bias to differentiate into Th2 cells under unpolarized conditions. Under Th1-inducing conditions, STAT1-deficient naive CD4+ T cells show impaired Th1 differentiation: Stat1 / Th1 cells express reduced levels of IFN-γ and T-bet. These cells also fail to repress the expression of IL-4 and GATA-3 and retain STAT6 signaling. More importantly, Stat1 / Th1 cells can be effectively induced to differentiate into IL-4-producing cells under Th2-inducing conditions. Ectopic expression of T-bet in Stat1 / Th1 cells dramatically represses their ability to do so and drastically restores IFN-γ expression, suggesting that STAT1 may inhibit IL-4 expression through T-bet. Finally, histone H3 acetylation (H3AC) and histone H3 K4 dimethylation (H3K4dim) were observed in two enhancer regions of Il4 gene locus in Stat1 / Th1 cells, suggesting a permissive status of Il4 gene locus in these cells. Thus, this study reveals new mechanisms by which STAT1 signaling may mediate repression of Il4 gene in Th1 cells: upregulating T-bet that subsequently represses GATA3 and IL-4 expression, antagonizing STAT6 signaling, and inhibiting epigenetic modifications in Il4 gene locus.

Abstract: The mechanical properties of rocks are obviously affected by initial stress state and unloading rates that are caused by excavation. Based on triaxial unloading and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) analysis,the deformation,breakage,and strength features of marble samples of the Jinping First Hydropower Station under different unloading rates and geostress conditions are studied. With unloading rates v_u and initial confining pressureσ_3~0 increasing,the brittle rupture and tensile characteristics of rock are more obvious. There are annular tensile cracks in secondary unloading direction when the rock samples are unloaded in two directions;and the meso-shapes of the tensile fracture surface under SEM consequently are presented with branch-tension,and multilayer biscuit-lancinated and slippery plane-ejected shapes. The axial strain compression increment Δε_1 is gradually reduced,but the confining expansion stressΔε_1 is increased during the process of unloading. The influence of unloading rate v_u on deformation modulus E is different at the different deformation stages during process of unloading. The deformation modulus E is gradually increased before peak strength,but it gradually increases firstly and rapidly decreases afterward with v_u enhanced. The Poisson's ratio μ is gradually increased during process of unloading,and it is more distinct with v_u andσ_3~0 enhancing,especially after peak strength. Relative to data of traditional triaxial loading test,the rock cohesion c is remarkably reduced but inner friction angle φ is a little increased under unloading test. The faster the v_u is,the more c is reduced,and the less theφ increases.

Abstract: Printed-circuit board (PCB) elliptic antennas with useful bandwidth exceeding 10:1 ratio are suitable for wideband radar, wireless ultra wideband (UWB) and other wireless communication applications. We present wideband PCB elliptic dipole antennas which are capable of achieving the bandwidth requirements for all the applications. A set of elliptic dipole antennas with varying eccentricities have been fabricated for demonstration. We find one specific size (specific eccentricity) dipole that can yield an impressive 1.5-16 bandwidth exceeding the currently available. A couple of elliptic dipole antennas suitable for UWB application have been presented. We have measured swept frequency response, impedance and radiation patterns of all dipoles. An empirical formula is given for calculating the starting resonant frequency within the operating band. The calculated values are found in good agreement with measured results.

Abstract: Quinoxaline 1, 4-dioxides (QdNOs) are quinox-aline derivatives which have been used as an-timicrobial agents and growth promoters in animals widely. They are also assumed to cure human disease such as anticancer, antitubercular and inhibiting parasite. QdNOs such as carbadox and their major metabolites induced a special decline of aldosterone production from the swine adrenal in vivo and in vitro, and thus cause hypovolemia, hyponatremia and hyperkalemia. This can also be expected to be the case for human. As a mainly physiological hormone and a novel steroid with potent mineralocorticoid activity, aldosterone plays an important role in the pathophysiological process of brain, renal and heart disease progression and may be a renal and vascular risk factor. Here, we provide evidence to support the hypothesis that QdNOs may lead potential benefits in aldosterone dysmetabolism disease via the synthesis deficiency of aldosterone in adrenal and/or the cardiovascular tissues. If the hypothesis is true, it may provide a new option into the therapy for aldosterone dysmetabolism disease, especially in cardiovascular system, and thus assume a broader application of QdNOs.

Abstract: Kobresia humilis meadow is a typical highland vegetation and main pasture on the Qingzang plateau. The study of modelling of its energy dynamcs is significant to understand interactions between factors, pastural management and ecosystem behavior under stress. The model developed is composed of the following five compartments: above-ground plant portion, below-ground live portion including roots, below-ground dead portion including roots, above-ground litter I (perishable portion), and above-ground litter I (imperishable portion).Energy flows between the five compartments are described by five simultaneous differential equations and parameters in the model were all determined from field experiments.The simulation results exhibited satisfactory agreement with field data.In addition, four-year energy dynamics of Kobresia humilis meadow fenced were simulated.
Efficient Electrically Small Prolate Spheroidal Antennas Coated with a Shell of Double-Negative Metamaterials

Abstract: An efficient, electrically small prolate spheroidal antenna coated with confocal double-negative (DNG) metamaterials (MTMs) shell is presented. The radiation power of this antenna-DNG shell system excited by a delta voltage across an infinitesimally narrow gap around the antenna center is obtained using the method of separation of the spheroidal scalar wave functions. Our results show that this electrically small dipole-DNG shell system has very high radiation efficiency comparing with the normal electrically small antenna due to the inductive effect of the MTMs shell that cancel with the capacitive effect of the electrically small antenna. It is found that the spheroidal shell can achieve more compact structure and higher radiated power ratio than the corresponding spherical shell. This dipole-DNG shell systems with different sizes are analyzed and discussed.
An Improved Spherical Antenna Array for Wideband Phase Mode Processing

Abstract: This paper presents an icosahedron-based spherical antenna array for phase mode processing. In this topology, the interelement spacing is almost identical. This feature is useful for threedimensional beam scanning and for reducing the effects of mutual coupling. The use of directional elements in this array for wideband synthesis is discussed, and our results show that the use of such elements can overcome the limitations of rapid variations in the amplitude of the far-field mode over a wide frequency band and enable such array to synthesize wideband patterns.
