The coupling relationship and emergy analysis of farming and grazing ecosystems in Mu Us sandland

Abstract: Aiming at real productivity of frail farming and grazing ecosystems in Mu Us sandland, basing on coupling theory of complex ecosystem, Uxin banner where grazing is dominant and Yuyang district where farming is the main character were selected as research object by means of using emergy theory and analytic methods, it analyses the primary productivity, secondary productivity and the coupling status of the farming and grazing system in those two areas for 27 years. And it comes up with a possible evolvement regulation of the extent of agro-ecosystem coupling. The results show that the industrial development model of Yuyang distric is farming-dominant, but Uxin banner is the grazing-dominant; Yuyang district has the tendency of pig, poultry production, but Uxin banner has the tendency of herbivorous animal production; the primary productivity, secondary productivity, A, B and SCD in those two areas are all increasing, and the SCD has the increase in the shape of "three-stage" in 27 years. In conclusion, this paper brings forward the developmental methods of farming and grazing ecosystems coupling in Mu Us sandland, it is expected to provide credible theory supports and direction to healthy development of the farming and grazing ecosystems.

Abstract: With Dacron and fiber as the raw materials, the filter medium is prepared by punching and calendering the sandwich structure which is composed of the carded fiber nets reinforced with Dacron. This filter medium is used to filter oil, water and air. The experiment results indicate that this filter medium is comparable to the British and German products of the same type, and has an excellent effect on filtering impurities, water and oil. The product not only broadens the application fields of filter media, but also has a positive significance in increasing the social and economic benefits of enterprises.
Semi-supervised spectral clustering with application to detect population stratification

Abstract: In genetic association studies, unaccounted population stratification can cause spurious associations in a discovery process of identifying disease-associated genetic markers. In such a situation, prior information is often available for some subjects' population identities. To leverage the additional information, we propose a semi-supervised clustering approach for detecting population stratification. This approach maintains the advantages of spectral clustering, while is integrated with the additional identity information, leading to sharper clustering performance. To demonstrate utility of our approach, we analyze a whole-genome sequencing dataset from the 1000 Genomes Project, consisting of the genotypes of 607 individuals sampled from three continental groups involving 10 subpopulations. This is compared against a semi-supervised spectral clustering method, in addition to a spectral clustering method, with the known subpopulation information by the Rand index and an adjusted Rand (ARand) index. The numerical results suggest that the proposed method outperforms its competitors in detecting population stratification.

Abstract: 针对浑河和太子河的鱼类栖息地环境需求,构建了由流速、水深、水面宽率、湿周率和过水面积率5个河道参数组成的栖息地适宜性指标体系.分别选择浑河的沈阳、邢家窝棚和太子河的辽阳、本溪和唐马寨5个河段,通过分析河道形态特征以及水位与流量的相关关系,建立了河道流量与每个栖息地指标间的经验关系公式,并确定指示鱼类在不同生活期的最小栖息地适宜标准,计算出为满足不同栖息地标准所需要维持的河道最小生态需水量,并采用最大值原则确定出各河段为满足鱼类生存的河道最小生态需水量.结果表明,浑河的最小生态流量4月~11月介于9.59~12.78 m3·s-1,分别占年平均天然径流量的17.13%~23.72%,12月~3月为5.70 m3·s-1,占天然径流量的10.59%;太子河的4月~11月介于9.83~19.83 m3·s-1,占天然径流量的23.33%~37.01%,12~3月为3.84~6.47 m3·s-1,占天然径流量的8.83%~9.82%.
Comment on "Atomic Scale Structure and Chemical Composition across Order-Disorder Interfaces"

Abstract: Interfaces have long been known to be the key to many mechanical and electric properties. To nickel base superalloys which have perfect creep and fatigue properties and have been widely used as materials of turbine blades, interfaces determine the strengthening capacities in high temperature. By means of high resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (HRSTEM) and 3D atom probe (3DAP) tomography, Srinivasan et al. proposed a new point that in nickel base superalloys there exist two different interfacial widths across the {\gamma}/{\gamma}' interface, one corresponding to an order-disorder transition, and the other to the composition transition. We argue about this conclusion in this comment.

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles were prepared by microwave irradiation of silver nitrate solution with carboxymethyl chitosan as reducing agent and a stabilizer. The optical properties, morphology and structure were characterized using UV–Visible spectrophotometer, transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Appearance of surface plasmon band at 413 nm indicated the formation of silver nanoparticles within 5 s microwave irradiation. TEM images show most silver nanoparticles are between 2 nm and 20 nm. XRD results identified the nanoparticles as face-centered cubic phase.

Abstract: The effects of simulated urban river embankments on water purification and stabilization were studied in three types of urban river, simulated hard embankment, semi-natural bank and natural bank. The results show that the removal rates of COD, NH~ _4-N and TP in hard embankment urban river are 10.4%, 4.7% and 2.5%, respectively, 18.9%, 13.4% and 11.6% in semi-natural bank, 20.5%, 14.5% and 7.7% in natural bank under ordinary condition. It indicates that the embankment type plays an important role in water purification process. Natural and semi-natural urban river embankments can improve the water quality significantly. During the 5 months experiment, algae bloom occurred in the hard embankment urban river while it was controlled effectively in semi-natural and natural urban rivers. It showed embankment types can improve water quality. Aquatic plants covering on river embankment are necessary for the purpose of decorative landscape and water stabilization. When the covering rate of water surface by aquatic plants was 40% and 70% respectively, a satisfactory improvement can be obtained in semi-natural and natural urban rivers.

Abstract: From the view point of strategically environmental management, a new approach of Water Environment Function Zoning at Watershed Scale (WEFZAWS) was proposed. The WEFZAWS was based on the existing water environment function zoning (WEFZ), along with the ecosystem management theories and methodologies, plus water ecological zoning. Also, the development of China's water environmental management capabilities was taken into account. Furthermore, the ecological condition of water body was assessed; the water ecological function and the minimum ecological water demand were introduced into the zoning process. It is the first time to introduce these theories into the WEFZ, which extends the connotation of former WEFZ research. The Hun River watershed was processed as a demonstrative case study.
