On the correction equation of the Jacobi-Davidson method

Abstract: The Jacobi-Davidson method is one of the most popular approaches for iteratively computing a few eigenvalues and their associated eigenvectors of a large matrix. The key of this method is to expand the search subspace via solving the Jacobi-Davidson correction equation, whose coefficient matrix is singular. It is believed long by scholars that the Jacobi-Davidson correction equation is a consistent linear system. In this work, we point out that the correction equation may have a unique solution or have no solution at all, and we derive a computable necessary and sufficient condition for cheaply judging the existence and uniqueness of solution of the correction equation. Furthermore, we consider the difficulty of stagnation that bothers the Jacobi-Davidson method, and verify that if the Jacobi-Davidson method stagnates, then the corresponding Ritz value is a defective eigenvalue of the projection matrix. We provide a computable necessary and sufficient condition for expanding the search subspace successfully. The properties of the Jacobi-Davidson method with preconditioning and some alternative Jacobi-Davidson correction equations are also discussed.
Cross-Layer Path Configuration for Energy-Efficient Communication over Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract: We study the energy-efficient configuration of multihop paths with automatic repeat request (ARQ) mechanism in wireless ad hoc networks. We adopt a cross-layer design approach and take both the quality of each radio hop and the battery capacity of each transmitting node into consideration. Under certain constraints on the maximum tolerable transmission delay and the required packet delivery ratio, we solve optimization problems to jointly schedule the transmitting power of each transmitting node and the retransmission limit over each hop. Numerical results demonstrate that the path configuration methods can either significantly reduce the average energy consumption per packet delivery or considerably extend the average lifetime of the multihop route.
Sonochemical Degradation Kinetics of Methyl Violet in Aqueous Solutions

Abstract: The sonochemical degradation in aqueous solution of methyl violet, chosen as a model of a basic dye, was studied. The ultrasonic degradation kinetics in water were found to be first-order and the degradation rate coefficient is 1.35×10-2 min-1 (R= 0.9934, n=8) at 20±1°C. The influence of the initial concentrations, reaction temperature and the pH of medium on the ultrasonic decomposition of methyl violet were also investigated.
APPLICATION OF ο-TOLIDINE AS SUBSTRATE FOR THE ELECTROCHEMICAL DETERMINATION OF HEMOGLOBIN OR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

Abstract: In this paper hemoglobin (Hb) was used to catalyze the oxidative reaction of ο-tolidine (OT) with H2O2. The oxidative product of OT with H2O2 was an azo substrate, which was electroactive and had a sensitive linear sweep voltammetric reductive peak at -0.52 V (vs. SCE) on hanging mercury drop working electrode (HMDE) in pH 5.0 Britton-Robinson (B-R) solution. The conditions of Hb catalytic reaction and voltammetric detection were optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the electrochemical behaviour of the oxidative product was carefully investigated and the electrode process of the product on mercury electrode was proposed. Based on the increase of the reductive peak current of the oxidative product with the concentration of the H2O2 or Hb, a new electrochemical method for the determination of trace amount of H2O2 or Hb was proposed. The calibration graph had a linear range of 6.0 x 10-8 to 4.0 x 10-5 M for H2O2 and 1.0 x 10-9 to 7.0 x 10-7 M for Hb with the detection limit of 1.0 x 10-8 M H2O2 and 5.0 x 10-10 M Hb (3σ), respectively. This new proposed method was further attempted to determine the content of H2O2 in fresh rainwater with satisfactory results. CTAB Method for Genomic DNA Extraction from Nonomuraea

Abstract: In order to obtain genomic DNA which meets the requirements of DNA-DNA hybridization, CTAB method combined with liquid nitrogen grinding was investigated. Cultures from different media added with glycine were harvested in different time. Quality of extracted genomic DNA was assessed by electrophoresis and OD260/OD280 value. Mycelia of shaking culture in yeast extract & malt extract (YE) medium containing 0.3% glycine for 3 days were subjected for DNA extraction. The genomic DNA obtained was about 20 kb, with the OD260/OD280 value around 1.8.

One- and two-photon absorption properties of two metalloporphyrin complexes

Abstract: The linear and nonlinear optical properties of two metalloporphyrin complexes formed by the complementary coordination of central zinc or magnesium ions to the ligand 5, 10, 15-tri-(p-tolyl)-20-phenylethynylporphyrin are theoretically investigated by using the analytic response theory at the density functional theory level. The results indicate that the studied complexes present more symmetric geometry structures than the ligand. The charge-transfer states of the two complexes in the lower energy region are all almost degenerate but those of the ligand are well separated. The ratio of the two-photon absorption cross sections of the ligand, zinc-porphyrin and magnesium-porphyrin complexes is 1.0:1.5:1.8, demonstrating that the two-photon absorption capability can be greatly increased when the ligand is coordinated with a metal ion. Moreover, several physical micro-mechanisms including electron transitions and intramolecular charge-transfer processes are discussed to explore the differences in optical property between the ligand and two complexes.

Abstract: Seven new azalomycin F analogs ( 1– 7) were isolated from the broth of mangrove Streptomyces sp. 211726, and respectively identified as 25-malonyl demalonylazalomycin F 5a monoester ( 1), 23-valine demalonylazalomycin F 5a ester ( 2), 23-(6-methyl)heptanoic acid demalonylazalomycins F 3a ester ( 3), F 4a ester ( 4) and F 5a ester ( 5), 23-(9-methyl)decanoic acid demalonylazalomycin F 4a ester ( 6) and 23-(10-methyl)undecanoic acid demalony lazalomycin F 4a ester ( 7). Their structures were established by their spectroscopic data and by comparing with those of azalomycins F 3a, F 4a and F 5a. Biological assays exhibited that 1– 7 showed broad-spectrum antimicrobial and anti HCT-116 activities.

Abstract: Brugada syndrome is increasingly being recognized in clinical medicine. What started as an electrocardiographic curiosity has become an important focus of attention for individuals working in the different disciplines related to sudden cardiac death, from basic scientists to clinical cardiac electrophysiologists. In just 12 years, since the description of the disease, clinically relevant information is continuously being provided to physicians to help protect the individuals with Brugada syndrome to the best of our ability. And this information has been gathered thanks to the effort of hundreds of basic scientists, physicians and patients who continue to give their time, effort and data to help understand how the electrocardiographic pattern may cause sudden cardiac death. There are still many unanswered questions, both at the clinical and basic field. However, with the further collection of data, the longer follow-up and the continued interest from the basic science world we will have the necessary tools to the successful unraveling of the disease.
