Abstract: Apoptosis is involved in aging and age-related disease, with respect to aging, apoptosis acting in a celltype-specific manner. The rate of apoptosis is elevated in-most types of aging cell populations and organs. In stable cells and certain continuously dividing cells, apoptosisserves to eliminate presumably dysfunctional cellsthat show homeostatic failure due to oxidative stress, glycation, and DNA damage, thereby maintaining homeostasis in the body. What’smore, apoptosis, at least in part, plays some important role inthe regulation of aging process and anti-tumorigenesis in mammals. Age-enhanced apoptosis may be aninnateprotective mechanism against age-associated tumorigenesis. There is clear evidence to indicate that senescentcells are remarkably resistant to apoptosis. The intensity of global apoptosis and autophagy clearance significantly declines in humans during aging, as aging repress the apoptotic response. In this paper, we will review the relationship between apoptosis and aging, and outline how are they interact each other.
Application and evaluation of a pseudotyped virus assay for screening herbs for anti-H5N1 avian influenza virus

Abstract: Objective: To establish a method based on a pseudotyped virus assay for screening drugs for anti-H5N1 avian influenza virus, and then to evaluate anti-virus activity of traditional Chinese herbal compounds with the function of purgation, detoxification, cooling the blood and reinforcing the healthy qi based on seropharmacology.Methods: Pseudotyped viruses expressing H5N1 virus hemagglutinin were constructed. Herb-medicated sera were prepared by feeding Wistar rats traditional Chinese herbal compounds. Then inhibitory effects of different drug-medicated sera against pseudotyped virus were evaluated based on incubating serum with pseudotyped viruses or target cells such as Madin-Darby canine kidney cells and human embryonic kidney cell line 293T cells, and the expression of hemagglutinin (HA) protein was detected by flow cytometry.Results: Pseudotyped virus could be neutralized by specific 2B4 monoclonal antibody at doses of 50 μL (500 μg), 25 μL (250 μg) and 12.5 μL (125 μg), which showed that it was a feasible assay to screen drugs. No significant difference was observed in inhibition against H5N1 pseudotyped virus between herb-medicated sera and control serum (P>0.05), meanwhile, the herb-medicated sera also could not inhibit HA expression.Conclusion: Pseudotyped virus assay is a safe, effective, and exact method for screening anti-H5N1 avian influenza virus herbs, and herb-medicated sera prepared by administration of herbs with the function of purgation, detoxification, cooling the blood and reinforcing the healthy qi do not contain active ingredient or monomer which can inhibit HA and sialic acid-α 2,3-galatose.

Abstract: In his play Happy Days, Samuel Beckett portrays against a wilderness of modern world an optimistic woman—Winnie, who has strong nerves and fights against overwhelming nothingness in various forms on her own. Arguing that she is a lonely fighter against nothingness, this essay is dedicated to Winnie and focuses itself on answering following questions: Since the world in Happy Days is surrounded and incessantly eroded by nothingness, what forms are they in and how do they work.; as an extremely deprived person, why could Winnie be called nothingness-fighter and in what ways does she succeed in struggling along. Abstract: The effect of an electric field E on a narrow quantum ring that contains two electrons and is threaded by a magnetic flux B has been investigated. Localization of the electronic distribution and suppression of the Aharonov--Bohm oscillation (ABO) are found in the two-electron ring, which are similar to those found in a one-electron ring. However, the period of ABO in a two-electron ring is reduced by half compared with that in a one-electron ring. Furthermore, during the variation of B, the persistent current of the ground state may undergo a sudden change in sign. This change is associated with a singlet--triplet transition and has no counterpart in one-electron rings. For a given E, there exists a threshold of energy. When the energy of the excited state exceeds the threshold, the localization would disappear and the ABO would recover. The value of the threshold is proportional to the magnitude of E. Once the threshold is exceeded, the persistent current is much stronger than the current of the ground state at E=0.

Abstract: Through analysis of the current status and future requirement of a panorama system, a new design idea of the panorama system is given. In the system, an optical method is used to combine four optical paths into one optical path and a detector is used to replace several detectors so that its cost and volume are reduced. Since the coherent design is used in both the spectral band of 3μm to 4.3μm and the spectral band of 4.3μm to 5μm , the target dectection and recognition capability of the system is better than that of the monochromatic system under the complicated environment. Its effective reconnaissance probability is improved and its false alarm probability is reduced greatly. Because the 450 by 900 field of view compressed proportionally from the 3600 by 900 field of view is used, its imaging quality is fine.

Abstract: The condensation of 2-carboxybenzaldehyde with 1,2-phenylenediamine unexpectedly yielded the title compound, C22H14N2O4·CH4O. The benzimidazole ring system is almost perpendicular to the phthalazine ring system, making a dihedral angle of 88.4 (5)°. Intermolecular O—H...N and O—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions stabilize the crystal structure.
Direct Fan-Beam Reconstruction Algorithm via Filtered Backprojection for Differential Phase-Contrast Computed Tomography

Abstract: Recently, a novel data acquisition method has been proposed and experimentally implemented for differential phase-contrast computed tomography (DPC-CT), in which a conventional X-ray tube and a Talbot-Lau-type interferometer were utilized in data acquisition. The divergent nature of the data acquisition system requires a divergent-beam image reconstruction algorithm for DPC-CT. This paper focuses on addressing this image reconstruction issue. We have developed a filtered backprojection algorithm to directly reconstruct the DPC-CT images from acquired fan-beam data. The developed algorithm allows one to directly reconstruct the decrement of the real part of the refractive index from the measured data. In order to accurately reconstruct an image, the data need to be acquired over an angular range of at least 180 ¢ plus the fan angle. As opposed to the parallel beam data acquisition and reconstruction methods, a 180 ¢ -rotation angle for the data acquisition system does not provide sufficient data for an accurate reconstruction of the entire field of view. Numerical simulations have been conducted to validate the image reconstruction algorithm.

Interaction-Induced Enhancement of Spin-Orbit Coupling in Two-Dimensional Electronic System

Abstract: We study theoretically the renormalization of the spin-orbit coupling constant of two-dimensional electrons by electron-electron interactions. We demonstrate that, similarly to the $g$ factor, the renormalization corresponds to the enhancement, although the magnitude of the enhancement is weaker than that for the $g$ factor. For high electron concentrations (small interaction parameter $r_s$) the enhancement factor is evaluated analytically within the static random phase approximation. For large $r_s\sim 10$ we use an approximate expression for effective electron-electron interaction, which takes into account the local field factor, and calculate the enhancement numerically. We also study the interplay between the interaction-enhanced Zeeman splitting and interaction-enhanced spin-orbit coupling.
