SIMULATION OF THE TWIN ROLL STAINLESS STRIP CASTING PROCESS

Abstract: The position of the solidification completed temperature of twin roll stainless strip casting process is very important to the quality of the casting strip. In order to control this position, the .solidification completed temperature should be known at first. The present paper first. simulated dendritic microsegregation under conditions of twin roll stainless strip casting, and got the relationship between the temperature and solid fraction of the mush zone. The temperatures such as ZDT (equal to the solidifica- tion completed temperature and LIT (liquid impenetrable temperature), et al., also were obtained. Then by using the turbulent model, the flow and thermal fields of the pool of the twin roll stainless strip casting, and the speed and temperature fields oj different casting speeds were given cud also explained. The results are coincident with the experimental result. Combined with the results of these two simulations, the appropriated casting speed was found.

Abstract: The ductility map of 304HC stainless was determined by using the Gleeble-1500 dy-namic thermal-mechanical simulator. The effect of Cu on the hot ductility of 304HCstainless steel was analyzed and the mathematical model of resistance to deformationwas established. The microstructure, inclusion and fracture surface were studied byusing the method of microstructure analysis, scanning, energy spectrum and electronmicroscope. The results show that Cu has effect on the hot ductility, and the hotductility of 30,4HC stainless steel decrease with the increase of content of Cu. Thedeformation temperature also has much effect on the hot ductility, the suitable defor-mation temperature are 1100-1200℃. The reason of it is that the Cu rich chemicalcompounds were precipitated from austenite phase during cooling. The Cu rich chem-ical compounds are brittle substance such as Cu2S, Cu2O and ε-Cu etc.

Abstract: The plasticity map of 304HC stainless steel was determined by using tensile and compressive test. The effect of Cu on the hot plasticity of 304HC stainless steel was analyzed. The microstructure, inclusion and fracture surface were studied by using the method of optical microscopy, SEM,EDS and EPMA. The results showed that Cu has effect on the hot plasticity and the hotplasticity of 304HC stainless steel decrease with the increase of Cu content. The deformation temperature also hasmuch effect on the hot plasticity, the suitable deformation temperature are 1100-1200℃.The reason is that the brittle compounds were precipitated from austenite during cooling. These brittle compounds are Cu2S, Cu2O and PbCl etc.

Abstract: Multi-pass slab vertical-horizontal (V-H) rolling process with variable edging roll shape have been simulated with explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method. The distributions of plastic strain contour in slab during rolling process with different edging roll and under different rolling stage have been obtained. The results show that there exist two thin strain assembling zones in slab when the flat edging roll is used, and there just exist one strain assembling zone in slab when the edging roll with groove is used. And compared the deformation equality between flat edging roll and edging roll with groove, the later is better than the former, which supplies the theory prove to the slab deformation distribution during V-H rolling process and is helpful for predicting the slab texture.

Abstract: The influence of prior austenite deformed at different temperature on the subsequent continuous cooling bainitic transformation has been investigated in an C-Ma-Cr-Ni-Mo plastic die steel. The results show that the prior deformation in low temperature region of austenite retards significantly the bainitic transformation. For the same continuous cooling schedule, as austenite deformed at lower temperature, the quantity of the classical sheaf-like bainite becomes less. The present results show that severe deformation leads to mechanical stabilization of austenite and causes the difficulty of bainitic ferrite propagation into the austenite.

Abstract: Anopheles anthropophagus is an important mosquito vector transmitting malaria and Brugia malayi. Due to differences in feeding behaviors between the female and male adult An. anthropophagus, female An. anthropophagus plays a more important role in transmitting pathogens than male ones. The present study identified a gene specifically expressed in female An. anthropophagus from a subtractive cDNA library for female An. anthropophagus and its full-length cDNA was amplified by 3' and 5' Rapid Amplification of cDNA Ends (RACE) technique. This gene was named fsyz and further analyzed by using Northern blot and bio-informatics analyses. It was shown that the fsyz could encode a D7 related salivary protein and was female-specifically expressed and not characterized previously worth further studies.

Abstract: Nanometer powders can be produced by an electrohydrodynamic technique. The breakup mechanism of the metal droplets generated by the electrohydrodynamic technique was analysed. It showed that the applied voltage, the electric field Btrength, the properties of the molten metal and the volumetric flow rate of the molten metal directly effect the breat-up extent of the metal droplets.

Abstract: An ultrafine-grained Cu sample with a high density of growth twins was synthesized by means of pulsed electrodeposition technique. The strain rate sensitivity of the Cu sample was measured by strain rate cycling tests under tension. The effects of grain size as well as twin density on the strength and strain rate sensitivity were discussed.
Iridovirus in the root weevil Diaprepes abbreviatus

Abstract: Invertebrate iridescent virus 6 (IIV6) was evaluated for mode of transmission and ability to cause infection in the root weevil, Diaprepes abbreviatus (L.). This is the first evidence of IIV6 infection in D. abbreviatus, which caused both patent and sub-lethal covert infections in both larvae and adults. Adults and larvae were successfully infected with IIV6 by puncture, injection and per os. Transmission of IIV6 was demonstrated between infected and healthy individuals regardless of gender. Virus was detected in egg masses produced by virus-infected females suggesting IIV6 is transmitted transovarially. Virus particles were observed in the cytoplasm of weevil cells, and were shown to infect fat bodies, muscle, and nerve tissues, as visualized using transmission electron microscopy. Patent infections resulted in death of individuals within 3 to 4 days post infection. Individuals with covert infections tested positive for virus infection on day 7 by polymerase chain reaction analysis. Sequencing of PCR amplicons confirmed virus infection. Discovery of new pathogens against root weevils may provide new management tools for development of control strategies based on induced epizootics. This is the first report of a virus infecting D. abbreviatus.
Mitochondrial Coding Gene Polymorphisms Associated with Carcass Traits in Beijing Duck

Abstract: PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing was employed to analyze polymorphisms of the mitochondrial coding gene including ND1-6, ND4L, COX 1-3, ATP6 and ATP8 in Chinese Beijing duck and analyze their effects on carcass traits in Beijing duck. The results showed that 4 SNPs (G9259A, T9269C, G9394A and A9601G) were detected in ATP6 gene and 1 SNP (G9902A) was detected in COX 3 gene. The G9902A locus was a nonsynonymous which result in the varation of the coding amino acid (Arg56Gln). The COX 3 locus showed three genotypes (c. 9902GG, c. 9902GA and c. 9902AA) and the frequencies were 0.12, 0.23 and 0.6+5, respectively. The COX 3 locus was significantly associated with carcass traits of Beijing duck (p<0.05).
