Abstract: Artocarpus lakoocha Roxb (Moraceae) is cultivated in Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Khasi Hills and Western Ghats. Objectives of the present study were to determine antibacterial, antioxidant, anthelmintic and insecticidal efficacy of methanol extract of A. lakoocha fruit pericarp. Antibacterial activity was tested against by Agar well diffusion method. Antioxidant activity in terms of free radical scavenging ability was determined by DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Anthelmintic efficacy was determined using adult Indian earthworm. Insecticidal activity was tested against second and third instar larvae of Aedes aegypti. The extract has shown dose dependent antibacterial, antioxidant, anthelmintic and insecticidal activity. Among bacteria, S. aureus has shown more susceptibility than K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa. The extract exhibited marked antioxidant activity by scavenging DPPH free radical. The IC50 value for extract was found to be 49.42μg/ml. The extract exhibited marked anthelmintic activity by causing paralysis and death of worms and the effect was found to be dose dependent. The extract concentration 100mg/ml has shown marked anthelmintic effect than standard drug. In insecticidal study, the 2nd instar larvae were shown to be more susceptible than 3rd instar larvae. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of tannins and alkaloids. The presence of these phytoconstituents might be responsible for the biological activities of extract tested. The extract could be used to treat free radical damage, bacterial and helmintic infections and to control insect vectors. Further studies on isolation of constituents and their bio-efficacies in vitro and in vivo are under investigation.

Abstract:

Epilepsy is one of the most frequent neurological problems. Despite of the advances and improvements in treatment of seizure disorders, immunological alterations such as immunoglobulins and complements have been measured. The levels of IgG in epileptic patients are found to be higher than controls. The levels of IgA, IgM, C3 and C4 were found to be lower in all the controls. Student’s t-test were also applied. Multiple and regression analysis, have been also carried out. A trend has also set up in the present study. An alteration in the immune mechanism of epileptic patients is required. Ketogenic diet may be given and the balance of trace elements like Na, K, Zn, Fe, Ca, Mg and Cu may be maintained to alter the immune mechanism of the epileptic patients. Green leafy vegetables may be given to the patients to control the seizure. Immunity is related with the food we eat. By adjusting the immunity with proper diet the severity of epileptic attack or any disease may be reduced.

Synergetic Use of Satellite Image and DEM for Identification of Landforms in a Ridge-Valley Topography  [PDF]

Abstract: Multispectral satellite image and digital elevation model (DEM) have emerged as the primary data sources for the mapping of landforms. They offer an opportunity to gain a fresh insight into the geomorphology of an area through landform identification using spatial, temporal, spectral and radiometric resolution of satellite images, and through the synergetic approach using DEM derivatives such as profile, slope, hill shading, contour pattern and 3-D flythrough visuals. This paper demonstrates an integrated study of Resourcesat-1 LISS III (23.5 m) image with ASTER DEM (30 m) for the identification of landforms in a rugged topography where conventional field based methods are difficult to adopt due to terrain inaccessibility. Satellite image aided by 3-D visualisation helped in accurate identification of landforms such as hogback, cuesta, plateau top and intermontane valley. The results showed that although denudational processes are active in this area, structural imprints of the strata that is mostly of proterozoic era, are still preserved.
Fuzzy Logic based Light Load Efficiency Improvement of Matrix Converter Based Wind Generation System

Abstract: The paper describes a variable speed wind generation system where fuzzy logic principles are used for light load efficiency improvement and optimization. A squirrel cage induction generator feeds the power to an improved topology of matrix converter which pumps power to a utility grid or can supply to an autonomous system. The power factor at the interface with the grid is controlled by the matrix converter to ensure purely active power injection into the grid for optimal utilization of the installed wind turbine capacity. Furthermore, the reactive power requirements of the induction generator are satisfied by the matrix converter to avoid self-excitation capacitors. The generation system has fuzzy logic control with vector control in the inner loops. Fuzzy controller tracks the angular frequency with the wind velocity to extract the maximum power and programs the machine ux for light load efficiency improvement. The complete control system has been developed, analyzed, and validated by simulation study. Performances have then been evaluated in detail.
Artificial Intelligence based Tuning of SVC Controller FOR CO-generated Power System

Abstract: The gain of SVC depends upon the type of reactive power load for optimum performance. As the load and input wind power conditions are variable, the gain setting of SVC needs to be adjusted or tuned. In this paper, an ANN based approach has been used to tune the gain parameters of the SVC controller over a wide range of load characteristics. The multi-layer feed-forward ANN tool with the error back-propagation training method is employed. Loads have been taken as the function of voltage. Analytical techniques have mostly been based on impedance load reduced network models, which suffer from several disadvantages, including inadequate load representation and lack of structural integrity. The ability of ANNs to spontaneously learn from examples, reason over inexact and fuzzy data and provide adequate and quick responses to new information not previously stored in memory has generated high performance dynamical system with unprecedented robustness. ANNs models have been developed for different hybrid power system configurations for tuning the proportional-integral controller for SVC. Transient responses of different autonomous configurations show that SVC controller with its gained tuned by the ANNs provide optimum system performance for a variety of loads.
Hybrid Controller based Intelligent Speed Control of Induction Motor

Abstract: This paper presents a hybrid system controller, incorporating fuzzy controller with vector-control method for induction motors. The vector-control method has been optimized by using fuzzy controller instead of a simple P-I controller. The presented hybrid controller combines the benefits of fuzzy logic controller and vector-control in a single system controller. High quality of the regulation process is achieved through utilization of the fuzzy logic controller, while stability of the system during transient processes and a wide range of operation are assured through application of the vector-control. The hybrid controller has been validated by applying it to a simulation model.

Abstract: ECG signals are non-stationary, pseudo periodic in nature and whose behavior changes with time. The proper processing of ECG signal and its accurate detection is very much essential since it determines thecondition of the heart. The analysis of ECG signal requires the information both in time and frequency, for clinical diagnosis. Hence the wavelet transforms becomes handy for analyzing these types of the signals. In this paper we have given an overview of some wavelet techniques published in journals and conferences since 2005 onwards for processing the ECG and also we have compared the performance, advantages and limitations of these techniques.

Abstract: As the internet grows in popularity and therefore also in size more and more transmission takes place mainly because the technology is more readily available and applications have become more user friendly allowing entry to less sophisticated user over a broad spectrum. Most data transfer are mainly text based not secure and vulnerable to various forms of security risks. So the model that uses SSH for securing channel like intranet/internet which provides client authentication encryption and decryption with high degree of security by transferring the data in an encrypted format, up on this model enhances the efficiency of data transmission by encrypting or decrypting the data with AES in Counter Mode. AES is a symmetric key encryption standard. Moreover the permutation controlled by data can be performed at high speed in generic cpu. This scheme also expands the key space without costing more to run. And also finally through the combination of secure shell (ssh) and AES (Counter Mode) not only enhances the security of communication channel. It also provides various applications like remote user creation, remote user deletion, remote command execution, remote system shutdown, remote file transfer applications in a highly secure manner.
