Housing Choice in an Affluent Shanghai – Decision Process of Middle Class Shanghai Residents  [PDF]
L. H. Li
Modern Economy (ME) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/me.2011.21002
Abstract: While most papers on housing choice concentrate on relatively disadvantaged groups in the society con-strained by financial ability, this paper looks at the affluent population in Shanghai. In examining their own perception of the relative importance of difference factors affecting such choice by way of an Analytical Hi-erarchy Process, we are able to understand that currently, most affluent households still regard proximity to the city centre as an important factor when making housing choice. More importantly, there seems to be a marked difference in the ranking of these factors between the upper middle class and the average middle class in this city. Our analysis shows that the upper middle class households place more importance on the transportation network and neighbourhood infrastructure, while the average middle class have more concern on the housing attributes.
Physical and Electrical Performance of Vapor–Solid Grown ZnO Straight Nanowires
Li JY,Li H
Nanoscale Research Letters , 2008,
Abstract: Physical and electrical properties of wurtzitic ZnO straight nanowires grown via a vapor–solid mechanism were investigated. Raman spectrum shows four first-order phonon frequencies and a second-order Raman frequency of the ZnO nanowires. Electrical and photoconductive performance of individual ZnO straight nanowire devices was studied. The results indicate that the nanowires reported here are n-type semi-conductors and UV light sensitive, and a desirable candidate for fabricating UV light nanosensors and other applications.
Lifestyle Management Practice of 40 - 59 Years Cohort in Hong Kong  [PDF]

Advances in Physical Education (APE) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ape.2013.32009
Abstract:

The role of the parents in influencing children is very important, in terms of the value system, attitude and behaviour. The importance and values of health are recognized by Hong Kong people, the development of an active lifestyle and exercise habit is relatively unsatisfactory. In Hong Kong, the Sport for All movement has been implemented by the SAR Government of Hong Kong for 40 years, but recent researches showed that more than 60% of the population didn’t exercise adequately. This suggested that alternative means to promote the sport for all were desirable. The health practices namely, exercise frequency, snack habit, breakfast habit, regular meals, sleeping hours, drinking habit, smoking habit, medication taking, exercise and medical expenditures of 919 randomly and systemically selected subjects aged 40 - 59 years were assessed. For each health practice, gender differences were analyzed using Cramer’s V and Ward Linkage method (cluster) was used to assess their cluster membership.

Foreign Currency Derivatives and Firm Value: Evidence from New Zealand  [PDF]
Hao Li, Nuttawat Visaltanachoti, Robin H. Luo
Journal of Financial Risk Management (JFRM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jfrm.2014.33010
Abstract: The benefit of corporate hedging remains controversial. While hedging could reduce the likelihood of adverse outcome, it will incur additional costs that may offset such benefit. This study provides some evidences to resolve the debate. We examine the benefits of foreign currency derivatives usage in 134 non-financial firms listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. New Zealand dollar experiences relatively high volatility so it is an ideal setting to examine whether the currency derivative usage could add value to the firm. Using Tobin-Q and other of its variants as a proxy of firm value, we find no evidence supporting the notion that the use of foreign currency derivatives can enhance a firm value.

Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2015.65052
Abstract: The objective of this study is to specify the effect of pressurized soy protein isolate (pSPI), upon the physical development, growth hormones and antioxidants functions of SD rats. The methodology depends on the selection of one hundred male SD rats, divided randomly into 5 groups. Each group consists of 20 rats. The groups will be defined as one blank control group, three groups with pSPI at low, medium and high doses and another control group with native soy protein isolates (nSPI). Low, medium and high doses are represented by 0.333 g/kg, 1.667 g/kg and 3.333 g/kg pSPI per weight, respectively. The native soy protein isolate is represented by 3.333 g/kg nSPI per weight. In every group, four animals will be taken out to collect the blood samples and analyze insulin like growth factor-I, growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, thyroxine and triiodothyronin. The other SD rats will be subjected to feeding for 63 consecutive days. The body weight, the body length and food intake of each rat are measured. The total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde and Glutathione Peroxidase in liver and serum of each rat will be analyzed. The results indicated that the groups with medium and high dose of pSPI result in an obvious increase in the body weight, body length and food utilization rate of SD rats. Also, pSPI has a great effect on the growth and antioxidants functions of SD rat.

The Energy-Efficient Processing of Fine Materials by the Micropyretic Synthesis Route
H. P. Li
Journal of Nanomaterials , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/727656
Abstract: Energy-efficient processing of TiB compound with nanowhiskers by micropyretic synthesis is investigated in this paper. Micropyretic synthesis not only offers shorter processing time but also excludes the requirement for high-temperature sintering and it is considered as the one of the novel energy-saving processing techniques. Experimental study and numerical simulation are both carried out to investigate the correlation of the processing parameters on the microstructures of the micropyretically synthesized products. The diffusion-controlled reaction mechanism is proposed in this study. It is noted that nanosize TiB whiskers only occurred when the combustion temperature is lower than the melting point of TiB but higher than the extinguished temperature. The results generated in the numerical calculation can be used as a helpful reference to select the proper route of processing nanosize materials. The Arrhenius-type plot of size and temperature is used to calculate the activation energy of TiB reaction. In addition to verifying the accuracy of the experimental measures, the reaction temperature for producing the micropyretically synthesized products with nanofeatures can be predicted.
