Susceptibility of Solanum phureja (Juz. et Buk.) to Potato yellow vein virus
Guzmán,Mónica; Rodríguez,Patricia;
Agronomía Colombiana , 2010,
Abstract: sixty two virus-free accessions of solanum phureja from the colombian central collection of this tuber (bogotá-soacha) were tested for their susceptibility to infection with potato yellow vein virus (pyvv). under greenhouse conditions, the plants were inoculated with pyvv using viruliferous trialeurodes vaporariorum (westwood) whiteflies, and monitored for three months (the tuber formation period of s. phureja) for symptoms of infection and virus capsid protein (cp) production, by means of a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rt-pcr) assay. symptoms of pyvv infection, consisting in the chlorotic flecking of leaflets, followed by complete vein yellowing, were noted in 38 accessions whose rna extracts generated correct-sized cp amplicons in rt-pcr assays. thirteen of the remaining accessions were found to be latently infected with the virus through positive rt-pcr assays. twelve accessions were free of virus infection as judged by the absence of symptoms and negative rt-pcr assay results over two cycles of tuber setting and germination. these accessions may possess field resistance to pyvv. this work is the first one to detect and define the levels of susceptibility of colombian s. phureja accessions to pyvv infection, and to identify the potential existence of resistance to this deleterious andean potato virus.

We present the case of a 17 days old newborn weighing 3,4 kg with a low output syndrome: breathing difficulty and poor tissue perfusion, requiring mechanical ventilation and inotropic support. Estilos de Apego en Relaciones de Pareja y su Asociación con la Satisfacción Marital Attachment Styles in Couples and Their Association With Marital Satisfaction
Mónica Guzmán,Paula Contreras
Psykhe (Santiago) , 2012,
The aim of the study was to evaluate differences in marital satisfaction according to attachment styles and the interaction between the individual and the partner's attachment styles in a sample of 129 participants and their partners, all of them residing in the city of Antofagasta, Chile. A cross-sectional study with a non-experimental design with a convenience sample was performed, based on self-report measures of the Experiences in Close Relationships and the Marital Satisfaction Scale. Through factorial ANOVA, the results indicate that secure attachment was related to the highest level of marital satisfaction, while dismissing styles were associated with the lowest levels. In dyads the combination of both partners with secure attachment styles was associated with the highest levels of satisfaction, while the combination of dismissing and fearful attachment was associated with the lowest degree of satisfaction. No differences were found according to gender, age, educational level, religious affiliation, presence of children, or length of the marital relationship.

Abstract: The citric tristeza virus (CTV) belongs to the Closteroviridae family which indudes the only vegetal viruses possessing genes homologous to HSP70 thermal cellular shock proteins in their genome. Such is the case of the gene encoding for the CTV p65 protein which presents high homology with the HSP70 protein family. It has been shown recently that HSP70h viral proteins (such as CTV p65) are involved both in viral assembly, as a microtubule binding protein, and in cell-cell movement. Since CTV is the most deleterious citrus pathogen, understanding this protein's role in the pathogenesis process is important. Rabbits were immunised with four synthetic peptides (corresponding to CTV p65 thermal shock protein's carboxyl-terminal region) to obtain polyclonal antibodies. All the peptides used were immunogenic, even though two of them showed greater response. Whilst none of the antibodies obtained reacted to non-infected plant extract, the p65 proteins was detected in extracts taken from citric plants infected with CTV Based on the antibody's reaction to two Colombian isolates having different serological characteristics, the p65 antibody's immunological behaviour appeared to be independent of the symptomatic severity of the CTV isolates. It was shown that the ORF encoded for the HSP70 homologue in CTV was expressed in vivo, even though the p65 antibody was only detected in concentrated protein extracts taken from infected plants, supporting reports from other studies that the concentration of this protein in plants infected with CTV is low. This is the first time that a polyclonal CTV antibody has been obtained in Colombia against p65 (a protein intervening in viral assembly and movement). Adapting a technique for obtaining p65 antibodies by using synthetic peptides as immunogens could be useful in the future for detecting or diagnosing p65 proteins present in different Colombian CTV isolates, especially in developing studies contributing towards greater understanding of viral biology, their control and relationship with the host.
