Abstract: the potential for resistant bemisia tabaci populations to develop as a consequence of intensive use of chemical insecticides has stimulated studies on integrated pest management tactics, for example, the induction of host-plant resistance.the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the biofertilizer in the resistance induction in bean to the whitefly. tests were accomplished with free-choice and no-choice tests of oviposition preference of the insect in cultivating of carioca bean. the design was completely randomized, with four treatments, being accomplished a general application in the soil, except for witness. after the first definitive pair’s of leaves appearance the applications were road leaf, being the treatments in the following way: 1, witness, 2) just an application in the soil, 3) an application in the soil one more application to foliate, 4) an application in the soil more two applications foliate. the biofertilizer caused negative effect in the population of the whitefly for the reduction of the oviposition. in that way, that product can be efficient in the handling of the whitefly in bean plantings.

Abstract: the cabbage aphid is one of the main curses of brássicas in general, and the search for healthier foods has been stimulating the development of techniques inside of the maintainable handling, as the microbial control. the objective of this work was determine concentrations of the microbial b. bassiana for the handling of the cabbage aphid. nymphs of b. brassicae were inoculated in submerged cabbage leaves in fungic suspensions , of the commercial product boveril?, in the concentrations of 0.05, 0.08, 0.12, 0.31, 0.50, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 grams per liter of distilled water plus adhesive espalhante hai-teem?, and maintained 26.0 ± 1.0°c and ur of 75.0 ± 5%. there was an increment of the mortality in function of the increase of the concentration, because, to smallest concentration (0.05g/l) it presented reduced effect of control 14% of confirmed mortality. however, the concentrations of 1.0-2.0g/l of water provided a superior mortality of 85%. the value found for cl50 was of 0.233g/l. in that way the microbial control of the cabbage aphid can be economical and biologically viable for the handling of this pest in brássicas cultivations.

Abstract: O potencial para popula es de Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) se tornarem resistentes a inseticidas tem estimulado o estudo de táticas alternativas para o Manejo Integrado de Pragas, como por exemplo, a indu o de resistência na planta hospedeira. Assim sendo, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do fertilizante organomineral na redu o da preferência para oviposi o da mosca branca em plantas de feij o. Foram realizados testes com e sem chance de escolha para oviposi o do inseto na cultivar de feij o carioca. O delineamento foi o inteiramente ao acaso com quatro tratamentos e dez repeti es. Foi realizada uma aplica o geral no solo, exceto para testemunha. Após o surgimento do primeiro par de folhas definitivo as aplica es foram via foliar, ficando os tratamentos da seguinte forma: 1) testemunha, 2) apenas uma aplica o no solo, 3) uma aplica o no solo mais uma aplica o foliar, 4) uma aplica o no solo mais duas aplica es foliares. O fertilizante organomineral causou efeito negativo na popula o da mosca-branca pela redu o da oviposi o. Dessa forma, esse produto pode ser eficiente no manejo da mosca branca em plantios de feij o. Abstract: A varíola ou pinta preta é um dos mais sérios problemas para cultura do mamoeiro e seu controle é baseado na aplica o excessiva de produtos químicos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplica o de fertilizante organomineral e argila silicatada na indu o de resistência à varíola em plantas de mam o, avaliando-se a incidência e severidade. Os tratamentos receberam aplica es foliares do fertilizante organomineral (T2), argila silicatada (T3), fertilizante organomineral mais argila silicatada (T4) e água na testemunha (T1). As avalia es foram realizadas 5 dias após a 6a, 9a e 12a aplica o foliar dos produtos. Os tratamentos 2, 3 e 4 proporcionaram significativa redu o da incidência e severidade da doen a. Contudo, maior redu o da incidência e severidade foi observada quando se associou fertilizante organomineral mais argila silicatada (T3). A aplica o destes produtos é uma medida eficaz e economicamente viável para o manejo da varíola em cultivos de mam o. Black spot of papaya disease is one of the most serious problems of the papaya culture and its control is based on the excessive application of chemical products. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of the application of biofertilizer and silicate clay in the resistance induction to the black spot of papaya disease, being evaluated the incidence and severity. The treatments received road leaf applications of biofertilizer (T2), silicate clay (T3), biofertilizer plus silicate clay and water on the witness (T1). The evaluations were made 5 days after to 6th, 9th and 12th road leaf application of the products. The treatments 2, 3 and 4 provided significant reduction of the disease's incidence and severity. However, the incidence and severity reduction were larger with biofertilizer plus silicate clay associated. The application of these products is a effective measure and economically viable method for the black spot management in papaya cultivations.

Abstract: O pulg o da couve Brevicoryne brassicae (L.), é uma das principais pragas das Brássicas em geral, e a procura por alimentos mais saudáveis tem estimulado o desenvolvimento de técnicas dentro do manejo sustentável, como o controle microbiano. Este trabalho teve por objetivo determinar concentra es do fungo B. bassiana para o manejo alternativo do pulg o da couve. Ninfas de B. brassicae foram inoculadas em folhas de repolho imersas em suspens es fúngicas, do produto comercial Boveril , nas concentra es de 0,05, 0,08, 0,12, 0,31, 0,50, 1,0, 1,5, 2,0 gramas por litro de água destilada mais espalhante adesivo Hai-Teem , e mantidos a 26,0 ± 1,0oC e UR de 75,0 ± 5%. Houve um acréscimo da mortalidade em fun o do aumento da concentra o, pois, a menor concentra o (0,05g/L) apresentou reduzido efeito de controle 14% de mortalidade confirmada. No entanto, as concentra es de 1,0 a 2,0g/L de água proporcionou uma mortalidade superior a 85%. O valor encontrado para a CL50 foi de 0,233g/L. Dessa forma o controle microbiano do pulg o da couve pode ser econ mica e biologicamente viável para o manejo dessa praga em cultivos de brássicas. Abstract: thrips palmi karny (thysanoptera: thripidae) is a phytophagous insect associated with the reduction of eggplant productivity. the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of calcium silicate and/or an organic mineral fertilizer, together or separately, in increasing the resistance of eggplants to t. palmi. the treatments were calcium silicate, organic mineral fertilizer, calcium silicate associated with this fertilizer and the control. mortality and number of lesions caused by nymphs of this insect on eggplant leaves were evaluated after 3, 6, 9 and 12 leaf applications of these products. the calcium silicate and the organic mineral fertilizer reduced both the population of t. palmi and the damage caused by its nymphs, suggesting a possible increase in eggplant resistance to this pest as a result of the treatments.

Abstract: occurrence of faustinus sp. (coleoptera: curculionidae) in tomato (solanum lycopersicum l.) plantations in the state of espirito santo, brazil, was confirmed through field observations carried out between april 2006 and march 2008. larvae of faustinus sp. bore the stems of tomato plants, whereas adults feed on the leaves. bored stems are then easily broken by the wind, by manual handling or by plant weight itself. crop rotation and removal of crop residues may help reduce pest population levels.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency, the stability, the application mode and the compatibility between castor bean oil and the entomopathogenic fungus beauveria bassiana, for diamondback moth (plutella xylostella) control. in the first experiment, the efficiency, the stability after 70 days of storage, and the application mode of castor bean oil were evaluated. in the second one, the compatibility of castor bean oil with b. bassiana was evaluated. the insecticidal activity of the castor bean oil is unstable over time. the castor bean oil is compatible with b. bassiana against p. xylostella.

Abstract: diamondback moth (dbm), plutella xylostella (lepidoptera: plutellidae), is considered the most important pest of brassicas worldwide and the use of insecticides is the most used method to control this pest. thus, the objective of this research was to select isolates of beauveria bassiana with viability to control dbm. seventeen isolates and one commercial product of b. bassiana were tested. dbm 2nd instar larvae were treated with conidial suspension at concentration of 107 conidia ml-1. for lethal concentration (lc) bioassay seven concentrations spaced on logarithmic scale were tested. the isolates cca/ufes-4, 18, 31 and 35 were selected for lc bioassay because they caused over 90% confirmed mortality. the standard isolate esalq-447 and the commercial product had similar results and were also selected for lc bioassay. based on the values estimated for lc50, the isolates cca/ufes-4, 18, 31, esalq-447 and the commercial product can be selected for use in dbm control.
