AN OVERVIEW ON STEM CELL AS A GENETIC MEDICINE

Abstract: Stem cell treatments are a type of genetic medicine that introduces new cells into damaged tissue in order to treat a disease or injury. A number of stem cell treatments exist, although most are still experimental and/or costly, with the notable exception of bone marrow transplantation. Stem cells are a unique and important set of cells that are not specialized. Stem cells retain the ability to become many or all of the different cell types in the body and thereby play a critical role in repairing organs and body tissues throughout life. Stem cells provide the opportunity to study the growth and differentiation of individual cells into tissues. For over 30 years, bone marrow, and more recently, umbilical cord blood stem cells have been used to treat cancer patients with conditions such as leukemia and lymphoma. Understanding these processes could provide insights into the causes of birth defects, genetic abnormalities, and other disease states.

Abstract: Hydrogels are three dimensional crosslinked hydrophilic polymeric networks which has the capability to imbibe water or biological fluids. Environmentally responsive hydrogels have the ability to respond to change in their external environment. They can exhibit dramatic changes in their swelling behaviour, network structure, permeability and mechanical strength in response to change in pH or ionic strength of the surrounding fluid or temperature. Other hydrogels have the ability to respond to applied electric or magnetic field or to change in concentration of glucose. Environmental responsive hydrogels for drug delivery application also requires biocompatibility. The chemical structure of the polymer may also affect the swelling ratio of hydrogels. Hydrogels containing hydrophilic groups swell to a higher degree compared to those containing hydrophobic groups. Abstract: Data mining is a technique to dig the data from the large databases for analysis and executive decision making. Security aspect is one of the measure requirement for data mining applications. In this paper we present security requirement measures for the data mining. We summarize the requirements of security for data mining in tabular format. The summarization is performed by the requirements with different aspects of security measure of data mining. The performances and outcomes are determined by the given factors under the summarization criteria. Effects are also given under the tabular form for the requirements of different parameters of security aspects.
Material Removal Rate, Electrode Wear Rate, and Surface Roughness Evaluation in Die Sinking EDM with Hollow Tool through Response Surface Methodology

Abstract: Electrical discharge machining is one of the earliest nontraditional machining, extensively used in industry for processing of parts having unusual profiles with reasonable precision. In the present work, an attempt has been made to model material removal rate, electrode wear rate, and surface roughness through response surface methodology in a die sinking EDM process. The optimization was performed in two steps using one factor at a time for preliminary evaluation and a Box-Behnken design involving three variables with three levels for determination of the critical experimental conditions. Pulse on time, pulse off time, and peak current were changed during the tests, while a copper electrode having tubular cross section was employed to machine through holes on EN 353 steel alloy workpiece. The results of analysis of variance indicated that the proposed mathematical models obtained can adequately describe the performances within the limits of factors being studied. The experimental and predicted values were in a good agreement. Surface topography is revealed with the help of scanning electron microscope micrographs. 1. Introduction Electrodischarge machining is a nonconventional machining process extensively used in industry for processing of parts having unusual profiles with reasonable precision [1]. Steel is a widely used engineering material. There are a variety of steels used for numerous applications. The steel is being divided into low carbon, medium carbon, and high carbon steel on the basis of carbon content. Low carbon steel contains a carbon content from 0.15% to 0.45%. It is the most common form of steel as it provides material properties that are acceptable for many applications [2]. EN 353 steel is cheaply available and widely used alloy. EN 353 is low alloy case carburized steel, predominantly used for manufacturing heavy-duty gears, shafts, pinions, and especially crown wheel [3]. Discharge current was the most significant controlling parameter in machining Al-15% SiC MMC using multihole electrode by grey relational analysis, while Taguchi method was employed to determine the relations between the machining parameters and process characteristics like MRR (material removal rate), EWR (electrode wear rate), and SR (surface roughness) [4]. The combination of maximum pulse on time and minimum pulse off time gives maximum MRR on Al-7075 alloy with brass electrode using Taguchi approach [5]. Amorim and Weingaertner concluded that the best results of MRR and surface texture for duty factor of 0.5 were obtained with tungsten-copper electrodes,

Abstract: Applying lean manufacturing philosophy is one of the most important concepts that help enterprises to gain competitive advantage in the world market. Suppliers are an important factor contributing to thesuccess of going lean. Major businesses in India as well as in other world, have been trying to integrate its suppliers to give better performance. In Indian small & medium scale enterprises (SME),application of lean manufacturing strategies especially in terms of supplier integration, have been far fewer. Indian SMEs are still resisting accepting the role of their suppliers to make them leaner. The aim of this study was to identify the supplier issues and their weightage in implementing the lean philosophy in Indian SMEs. The research hypothesizes that there are big opportunities for improvement in the Indian SMEs if it is made leaner by integrating its suppliers in its manufacturing system. Author identified total 21 supplier issues and divided these 21 supplier issues in four categories on conceptual basis named as Supplier Management strategy, Information Sharing with supplier, Supplier Integration, Capability to deal with uncertainty. Mean scores of all four categorized groups of supplier issues are ranked.
Interpenetrating polymeric network hydrogel for stomach-specific drug delivery of clarithromycin: Preparation and evaluation

Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop a controlled release system targeting antibiotic delivery to the stomach. The hydrogels were synthesized by using chitosan, poly (acrylic acid) and poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) polymers crosslinked with glutaraldehyde and N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide. Interpenetrating polymeric network (IPN) hydrogels were prepared by varying the concentration of crosslinking agent (glutaraldehyde). The amount of chitosan, poly (acrylic acid), poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) and N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide were kept constant in all formulations. The effect of glutaraldehyde concentration on the swelling and release characteristics were evaluated. Modalities used to assess the most optimal hydrogel formulation included high liquid chromatography, FTIR analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, swelling studies, in vitro drug release study, mucoadhesive study and scanning electron microscopy. The result showed that IPN hydrogels were greater in swelling, more mucoadhesive and released more drug at lower pH values. Thus, it is believed that the antibiotic concentration in the stomach might be sustained through this formulation.

Abstract: The paper investigates nonlinear system identification using system output data at various linearized operating points. A feed-forward multi-layer Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based approach is used for this purpose and tested for two target applications i.e. nuclear reactor power level monitoring and an AC servo position control system. Various configurations of ANN using different activation functions, number of hidden layers and neurons in each layer are trained and tested to find out the best configuration. The training is carried out multiple times to check for consistency and the mean and standard deviation of the root mean square errors (RMSE) are reported for each configuration.

Abstract: Background/Purpose: Multipotent bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BMMSC) have been shown to possess the potential for tissue regeneration. The application of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC)-derived growth factors and cytokines (GF/CKs) has been implicated for the repair and regeneration of the damaged skin that occurs due to aging and exposure to environmental stress factors. Methods: We have used both qualitative and quantitative measurements of the GF/CKs from the conditioned medium (CM) of a pooled population of BMMSC by antibody array analysis as well as by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Furthermore, the CM was also used in a variety of in vitro biological assays to measure its protective properties in human skin fibroblasts. Results: We have characterized the secretome of BMMSC by analyzing the composition of the CM using a forty-one growth factor array system. Thirteen of these GF/CK/extra cellular matrix (ECM)/ matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)-inhibitors in the CM were quantified owing to their involvement in skin repair cascade. In addition, we report that the BMMSC-CM was also able to protect dermal fibroblasts against tert-Butyl hydro peroxide (tbOH) induced oxidative stress and ultra violet B (UV-B) radiation induced cell damage. Conclusion: Based on the data presented here, we propose that BMMSC-derived CM may have the potential to promote health and rejuvenation of the aging skin.
