The ZigBee Based Wireless Sensor and Actor Network in Intelligent Space Oriented to Home Service Robot  [PDF]

Abstract: In the study of intelligent space oriented to home service robot, an important technology is how to construct an communication network which has the characters of high reliability and easy building. In this paper, based on the characteristics of ZigBee protocol, ZigBee technology is used to construct a wireless sensor and actor network. Several intelligent services based on ZigBee wireless sensor and actor network are shown to certify the reliability of this communication network. ZigBee wireless sensor and actor network builds an information bridge for the components in the intelligent space, the spatially distributed devices are connected together seamlessly. With this network, robot can share the mass information in the intelligent space and improve its performance with \"light-packs\", devices in intelligent space, such as lamp, curtain can be controlled autonomously.

Bioassays on selection and feeding responses of Holotrichia oblita adults to different plant species

Abstract: Bioassays on selection and feeding responses of Holotrichia oblita adults to different plant species were conducted both in laboratory and under field conditions. The selection response bioassay showed that the adults were significantly attracted to Ricinus communis. In paired tests of the field cages, more than 60% adults were attracted to R. communis plants, while only 35.55%, 34.45%, 33.35%, and 26.65% were attracted to plants of Glycine max, Arachis hypogaea, Ipomoea batatas, and Gossypium hirsutum, respectively. In the laboratory, the selection response percentage of the adults to R. communis leaves reached up to 93% in the presence of other host plant leaves and still arrived at 70% in the absence of other host plant leaves. Feeding deterrence bioassay showed that the adults preferred to I. batatas leaves with 229.90 ± 4.25 mg leaf consumption and 41.30 ± 5.19 mg faeces excretion after 12 h, followed by the leaves of G. hirsutum and A. hypogaea. The adult did not prefer leaves of R. communi with only 7.10 ± 0.23 mg leaf consumption and corresponding 4.00 ± 0.84 mg fecal excretion. In summary, all experimental results suggested that the attraction of H. oblita adults to R. communi is not triggered for feeding.

Abstract: The lattice Boltzmann method is used to simulate numerically the droplet motion driven by Marangoni effect, which is induced by surface tension gradient on the solid-liquid interface, with the consideration of interaction between solid and liquid molecules. The computation results are well compared with the theoretical prediction available for smaller surface tension gradient, whereas the translation velocity of droplet is smaller than the theoretical value for larger gradient, because some assumptions, such as the quasi-equilibrium and non-deformable droplet, are not satisfied in the theoretical analysis anymore. Vortical structure with a solid-like core is found in the droplet when it moves to the hydrophilic end. The variations of velocity and contact angle of droplet are found to be oscillating with time for larger gradient of wettability.

Abstract: Identifying moving objects from a video sequence is a fundamental and critical task in many computer-vision applications. For surveillance video captured by static camera, the common approach is to perform background subtraction, which identifies moving objects from the portion of a video frame that differs significantly from a background model. However, there are many challenges in developing a good background subtraction algorithm for many factors such as changes in illumination should be considered in constructing a background model. This paper firstly expounds the universal process of detecting objects with background subtraction, all typical background modeling algorithms and their merits. Then their whole characteristics are summarized and the performances of some algorithms are compared based on experiments and other literatures. Finally, key issues and directions of future study in this area are pointed out.

Abstract: A model of configurable remote diagnosis system,each of whose sub-modules is encapsulated into a software intelligent chip,is proposed.All the SICs are driven by the system data,the collected data of fault device or the data engendered during the diagnosing process.When these SICs cooperate in harmony,a favorable fault diagnosis system comes into being.To meet with the requirements of different diagnosis applications,the user can flexibly configure the system.And then,according to the configuration scheme,a feasible diagnosis system can be constructed to serve for the practical fault device.

Abstract: There are two main characteristics in a remote fault diagnosis system, collaboration among muhi-diagnosing resources and applicability to muhi-types of devices. So in fact, this system is a distributed collaboratively computing environment which can be expressed with three elements, device, resource and time. A function-layer model of the remote collaboration diagnosis system is presented, and the method to implement the software module reuse and diagnosing resource share using two layer configuration is described.

Abstract: In distributed interactive simulation, the interactions among the multi resolution models of the same entity and the multi-resolution models of different entities may cause the problem of data inconsistency. Based on the analysis of existing multi-resolution modeling methods,a tree configuration modeling method was proposed for multi-resolution modeling in distributed interactive simulation, which is composed of aggregated entity models and platform entity models. In order to solve the problem of data inconsistency in the multi-resolution models of the tree configuration modeling method, the interactive among the multi-resolution models was regarded as the transaction of distributed database management. I}hen a nested 2-phasccommitment protocol algorithm was proposed to settle the consistency maintenance of multi-resolution models.
