The Impact of the US Political Pressure on RMB Exchange Rate: An Event Study Analysis  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper takes the US as an example and uses event study approach to analyze the political events in which the US pressured RMB exchange rate between July 22, 2005 and March 31, 2016 as well as the outcomes of such actions, trying to reveal the influence of such events during the appreciation and depreciation period of RMB. The conclusions are as follows: 1) The pressure from the United States did not play a significant role in promoting RMB appreciation since only 53.4% out of 116 events between July 22, 2005 and March 31, 2016 were successful; 2) In various political events that aim at imposing pressure between July 22, 2005 and March 31, 2016, the US Congress had more significant influence on RMB exchange rate than the US administrative sectors; 3) Judging from the number of events, RMB exchange rate hasn’t undergone obviously increased pressure from the US since its devaluation in 2014. However, unlike the situation in the appreciation stage, US administrative sectors were more influential than the Congress in the devaluation stage.

Abstract: By estimating trade balance equation, export equation and import equation, this paper shows empirically that China’s trade surplus is not sensitive to the fluctuations in the real effective exchange rate, but the price elasticity has become large and significant in the period from 2005 onwards after the new exchange rate regime was instituted on 21 July, 2005. In the latter case, I found divergent results on ordinary trade and processing trade, i.e. the appreciation in Renminbi has found to reduce ordinary trade balance and increase processing trade balance. In addition, I found the appreciation has larger impact on processing trade (both the processing exports and the processing imports) than it has on ordinary trade.

Abstract: This paper studies the problem of finding an effective subcarrier and power allocation strategy for downlink communication to multiple users in a MIMO-OFDM system with zero-forcing beamforming. The problem of minimizing total power consumption with constraint on transmission rate for users is formulated. The problem of joint allocation is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the number of subcarriers that each user will get is determined based on the users’ average signal-to-noise ratio. In the second stage, it finds the best assignment of subcarriers to users. The optimal method is a complex combinatorial problem which can only be assuredly solved through an Exhaustive Search (ES). Since the ES method has high computational com-plexity, the normalized user selection algorithm and the simplified-normalized user selection algorithm are proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed low complexity algorithms offer better performance compared with an existing algorithm.
Pulse-Impact on Microstructure of Liquid-Phase-Pulse-Impact Diffusion Welded Joints of Particle Reinforcement Aluminum Matrix Composites at Various Temperatures  [PDF]

Investigation was to study the influence of pulse-impact on microstructure of Liquid-Phase-Pulse-Impact Diffusion Welding (LPPIDW) welded joints of aluminum matrix composite SiCp/A356, SiCp/6061Al, Al2O3p/6061Al. Results showed that under the effect of pulse-impact: 1) the interface state between reinforcement particle (SiC, Al2O3) and matrix was prominently; 2) the initial pernicious contact-state of reinforcement particles was changed from reinforcement (SiC, Al2O3)/reinforcement (SiC, Al2O3) to reinforcement (SiC, Al2O3)/matrix/ reinforcement (SiC, Al2O3); 3) the density of dislocation in the matrix neighboring to and away from the interface in the matrix was higher than its parent composite; and 4) the intensively mutual entwisting of dislocation was occurred. Studies illustrated that: 1) deformation was mainly occurred in the matrix grain; and 2) under the effect of pulse-impact, the matrices around reinforcement (SiC, Al2O3) particles engendered intensive aberration offered a high density nucleus area for matrix crystal, which was in favor of forming nano-grains and improved the properties of the successfully welded composite joints.

Effect of Irradiation Parameters on Morphology of Polishing DF2 (AISI-O1) Surface by Nd:YAG Laser

Abstract: Pulse Nd:YAG laser was used to polish DF2 cold work steel. Influence of irradiation parameters on the 3D surface morphology was studied by 3D profilometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscope (AFM). Results among the tests showed when DF2 specimens were irradiated with parameters of (i) laser input energy P=1 J, (ii) pulse feedrate=300 mm/min, (iii) pulse duration (PD) =3 milliseconds, and (iv) pulse frequency f=20∼25 Hz, laser polishing of DF2 cold work steel seemed to be successful.
The TRIPS Agreement Does Little to Promote the Development of Technology Transfer to Developing Countries

Abstract: This essay shows surely that the importance of technology for the global development and the object of the TRIPS Agreement is to promote the development of technology transfer. Then it shows the conflict between Developed Countries and Developing Countries through analysing the used situation of the TRIPS Agreement. After that, the essay draws the conclusion that this Agreement is unfair; it has brought benefits to Developed Country Members by obstructing the development of Developing Country Members. Finally, the essay analysis provisions of agreement, the result is made that the TRIPS Agreement does not promote the development of technology transfer to Less Developed Countries. It has discouraged the development of Developing Countries in most situations recently. It is not in accordance with the object of the agreement, so the TRIPS Agreement should be amended as soon as possible. Keywords: Technology transfer; Development; Intellectual property rights
The trial of the TRIPS Agreement in the Chinese IP law

Abstract: Recently, intellectual property right has played an important role in the world. How can this right be protected properly and people get interests from it as much as possible? This has become a hot topic currently. As one of the agreement of WTO, the TRIPS is a good answer for that question. Its protection to intellectual property right reaches an unprecedented height.However executing it in China exist problems. This dissertation shows, why those problems come, by explaining the TRIPS Agreement and the Chinese IP law and analyses their provisions to find differences and similarities between them. After that, from those differences, defects of the Chinese IP law are concluded. Some advices are suggested for amending relative laws, which is very necessary for protecting IP right in China. The dissertation point out defects of the Chinese IP law and then give some advices of amendment to perfect it. The aim is to propose a solution that link up the Chinese IP law and the TRIPS Agreement. Comment est-il possible de protéger efficacement ce droit et être sur que ce soit dans le meilleur intérêt possible. Ceci est actuellement devenu un sujet passionnant. En tant qu’un des accords de l OMC (Organisation Mondiale du Commerce) l’ADPIC est un élément de réponse à cette question.. La protection de ce dernier en terme de droit de propriété intellectuelle à atteint un niveau sans précédent. Cependant l’application de ce droit en Chine soulève certains problèmes. Cet essai illustre les causes de l apparition de ces problèmes en expliquant l’accord ADPIC et la loi chinoise de propriété intellectuelle, et analyse aussi les similarités et différences entre les deux. Partant de ces différences, les imperfections de la loi chinoise sont énoncées. Des suggestions sont par la suite soumises pour ajouter des amendements aux lois concernées ce qui est nécessaire pour protéger le droit à la propriété intellectuelle en Chine . Cet essai met à jour les défauts de la loi de propriété intellectuelle chinoise et propose des pistes d’amélioration. A bias free true random number generator

Abstract: We propose a new approach to nondeterministic random number generation. In theory, the randomness originated from the uncorrelated nature of consecutive laser pulses with Poissonian photon number distribution and that of the consecutive single photon detections is used to generate random bit. In experiment, von Neumann correction method is applied to extract the final random bit. This method is proved to be bias free in randomness generation, provided that the single photon detections are mutually independent, and further, it has the advantage in generation efficiency of random bits since no postprocessing is needed. A true random number generator based on this new method is realized and its randomness is guaranteed using three batteries of statistical tests.
Direct Colorimetric Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide Using 4-Nitrophenyl Boronic Acid or Its Pinacol Ester  [PDF]

Abstract: A colorimetric method for the direct determination of hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solution is described. H2O2 stoichiometrically converts 4-nitrophenyl boronic acid or 4-nitrophenyl boronic acid pinacol ester into 4-nitrophenol, which can be quantified by measuring the absorption at 400 nm in neutral or basic media. The reactions proceed fast under basic conditions and complete in 2 minutes to at pH 11 and 80?C. The linear range for the colorimetric method extends beyond 1.0 to 40 µM H2O2, and the limit of detection is ~1.0 µM H2O2. This method offers a convenient and practical process for rapid determination of hydrogen peroxide in aqueous media. Compared to many other techniques in H2O2 detection, this process is a direct measurement of H2O2, and is relatively unaffected by the presence of various salts, metal ions and the chelator EDTA.

Abstract: This paper studies about the mechanical part of wind turbine and wind generator operation stability.1) It makes a comparative study of two control methods for maximum power tracking: curve fitting method and hill climbing algorithm, sets up improved control modules in DIgSLIENT and makes comparison research, thus gets the conclusion that the improved control modules of hill climbing algorithm has good effect on MPPT, and it is more desirable in the condition of steady wind. 2) This paper sets up SVC and STATCOM models and improved control modules in DIgSLIENT, which are connected to wind power system, verifying the validity of SVC and STATCOM models, and verifying its influence on wind power plant and system. The results of the study show that STATCOM is more helpful in voltage recovery when large disturbance of three-phase short-circuit happened in wind power grid, reactive compensation is more effective.
