FULL QUANTUM THEORY OF OPTICALLY PUMPED THREE-LEVEL LASER

Abstract: The Langevin quantum theory has been used to treat the optically pumped three-level laser system. We derive an equation of motion for laser field in the type of Van der Pol equation when the photon number of the laser field is not too high. It includes not only both incoherent and coherent pumping, but also both strong and weak optical pumping. If an average over reservoir is taken, the equation will give all the semi-classical results. Our results show that the laser gain comes from two basic processes, i.e., a two-photon process and a two-step process. When the pumping strength is larger than some value, the dynamic Stark effect will appear. The laser linewidth is mainly contributed by the thermal noise, the vaecum fluctuation, the spontaneous emissions between the laser levels and the spontaneous Raman scattering.

Abstract: The Hamiltonian of the process of cascaded second harmonic generation is found from Maxwell equations. In the double-gap model and under rotating-wave and effective-mass approximations, it is quantized and the generalized quantum nonlinear Shr?dinger equation (GQNSE) is obtained. Tri-photon and quadri-photon bound states are found based on general solutions of GQNSE solved via Bethe's Ansatz method. Quantum parametric gap soliton (QPGS) solution is constructed consequently, and the existence of the double-gap QPGS is predicted for the first time.

Abstract: We consider the case that one of entangled atoms interacts with a single-mode cavity field. The atom is selectively detected after exiting the cavity, and it is found that the nonclassical properties of field states depend strongly on the entanglement degree between the two atoms. Meanwhile it is proven that squeezing of field and photon antibunching can be greatly enhanced via selective atomic measurements.

Abstract: In this paper, we suggest a way to perform coherent quantum arithmetic operation on the ions in different traps by interaction-free measurement. The physical processes and implementation steps of the controlled-NOT operation are carefully investigated. This method is, in effect, to connect different ion tr a ps into one larger integral quantum register. Thus the more complex logic operat ions, as well as the quantum algorithm such as the Shor algorithm whose realizat ion needs thousands of pubits, perhaps will be implemented through this way. It is also pointed out that this method is potentially useful in quantum cryptograp hy and quantum communication.
PREPARATION OF NONCLASSICAL STATES OF A CAVITY FIELD BASED ON A NONLINEAR JAYNES-CUMMINGS MODEL

Abstract: It is proven in this paper that some kinds of nonclassical quantum states of the cavity field, such as Schr?dinger cat state (amplitude cat or phase cat), sub-Poissonian photon distribution and Fock state, etc., can be generated by conditional meas urements on atoms in the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model with a Kerr-like medium. The nonlinear constant plays the key modulation role in the preparation of the quantum states, which gives a new controllable parameter for further experi mental researches in this field.

Abstract: Crystal-like-gas (CLG) is a new kind of matter in which the atoms are arranged periodically in the space and the electrons are bound to the corresponding atoms. In this paper, we study the superradiance effect of CLG and discuss some interesting new properties due to the periodic structure of CLG. The non-ideal situation is also discussed.

Abstract: Quantum property which has its particular function in the information filed is expected to break the limitation of current classical information system in the aspects of promoting operation speed, insuring information security, improving information capacity, and promoting detection accuracy. The quantum information science is a subject that combines the quantum mechanics with the information science. The quantum information has made important breakthroughs in the theoretical, experimental, and application fields in recent years. To a certain degree, the quantum communication has already realized the commercial application with bight market prospect. The quantum computer has its incomparable power that current computer does not possess theoretically. However, the real technology of quantum processor has not been realized at present, and the research on the quantum processor based on quantum optics and solid system has a rosy future.
Scheme for preparation of nonmaximal entanglement between two atomic ensembles

Abstract: We propose an experimentally feasible scheme to generate nonmaximal entanglement between two atomic ensembles. The degree of entanglement is readily tunable. The scheme involves laser manipulation of atomic ensembles, adjustable quarter- and half-wave plates, beam splitter, polarizing beam splitters, and single-photon detectors, and well fits the status of the current experimental technology. Finally we use the nonmaximally entangled state of ensembles to demonstrate quantum nonlocality by detecting the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality.
