O problema do historicismo e as ciências do espírito no século XX
Gunter Scholtz
Schwarzschild Geodesics in Terms of Elliptic Functions and the Related Red Shift  [PDF]
Gunter Scharf
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2011.24036
Abstract: Using Weierstrassian elliptic functions the exact geodesics in the Schwarzschild metric are expressed in a simple and most transparent form. The results are useful for analytical and numerical applications. For example we calculate the perihelion precession and the light deflection in the post-Einsteinian approximation. The bounded orbits are computed in the post-Newtonian order. As a topical application we calculate the gravitational red shift for a star moving in the Schwarzschild field.
Pirrhiese Oorwinning: Die Oorlog in Kosovo
Leopold Scholtz,Ingrid Scholtz
Scientia Militaria : South African Journal of Military Studies , 2012, DOI: 10.5787/29-0-190
Abstract: Net soos elke historiese gebeurtenis is elke oorlog uniek. As a military historian having written about many wars, and served in one, I cannot recall any campaign that I have disliked so much.")

The standard of research on the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, 1987–1988

Scientia Militaria: South African Journal of Military Studies , 2011,
Abstract: The purpose of this article is to examine the standard of research about the so-called Battle of Cuito Cuanavale. After examining what objectivity for the academic researcher should mean, two categories of researchers are looked at. The first is called the “non-researchers”. They are those who do no or virtually no real research into the events at Cuito Cuanavale, but uncritically copy what politicians and politically correct academics have to say about the subject. The focus also falls on one particular historian, Italian-American Professor Piero Gleijeses. On the basis of several articles (his book about Cuba s role in Africa until 1976 is judged to be good), the conclusion is that his evident admiration for Cuba and its dictator, President Fidel Castro, and his revulsion at apartheid South Africa brings about a one-sided and distorted picture of what went on at Cuito Cuanavale and the Border War in general. The last category is the “serious researchers”, whose work is based on good research. Although their work displays certain gaps in the sense that they had no access to Cuban or Angolan sources, they generally are much more reliable in their facts than the “non-researchers” and Professor Gleijeses.

The South African strategic and operational objectives in Angola, 1987-88

Scientia Militaria: South African Journal of Military Studies , 2010,
Abstract: so-called Battle of Cuito Cuanavale – the SADF, or the Cuban and Angola forces. A lot depends, of course, on what the South Africans’ strategic and operational objectives were, and whether they reached these or not. On a somewhat lower level, the debate has centred on the question whether the SADF wanted to occupy Cuito Cuanavale. If they did, it becomes easier to argue that South Africa was dealt a heavy reverse there; if not, such an argument becomes more difficult to sustain. In this article, South Africa’s strategic and operational objectives are analysed, based on archival sources. The basic conclusions are that the South African government was realistic enough to see that it could not replace the MPLA with UNITA by force, although it was hoped this might happen through elections. As far as Cuito Cuanavale is concerned, the sources are unequivocal: Although the occupation of the town was indeed discussed, it was never seriously considered. The objective was simply to drive FAPLA over the Cuito River, to prepare the river bankas a defensive line, to turn it over to UNITA and then to pull back. By far most of the South Africans’ objectives were reached.
