Use of Hydrophilic Insoluble Polymers in the Restoration of Metal-Contaminated Soils
Guiwei Qu,Amarilis de Varennes
Applied and Environmental Soil Science , 2009, DOI: 10.1155/2009/790687
Abstract: To develop cost-effective techniques that contribute to phytostabilization of severely metal-contaminated soils is a necessary task in environmental research. Hydrophilic insoluble polymers have been used for some time in diapers and other hygienic products and to increase the water-holding capacity of coarse-textured soils. These polymers contain groups, such as carboxyl groups, that are capable of forming bonds with metallic cations, thereby decreasing their bioavailability in soils. The use of polyacrylate polymers as soil amendments to restore metal-contaminated soils has been investigated in the Technical University of Lisbon since the late nineties. Plant growth and plant nutrients concentrations, extractable levels of metals in soil, and soil enzyme activities were used to monitor the improvement in soil quality following the application of these polymers. In contaminated soils, hydrophilic insoluble polymers can create microcosms that are rich in water and nutrients (counterions) but only contain small concentrations of toxic elements; the conditions of these microenvironments are favorable to roots and microorganisms. In this paper we described the most relevant information available about this topic.

The Power of Assumptions  [PDF]
Yongchen Zou
Modern Economy (ME) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/me.2011.24056
Abstract: This paper examines computational merits provided by assumptions made in scientific modeling, especially regression, by trying to exhibit abstractly a model deprived of those assumptions. It shows that the principle of Occam’s Razor has been mistakenly used as model developers’ justification to keep scientific models “as simple as possible”, and that the cost of inflating computability is truncation of model robustness.
A Novel Non-Equidistant Grey GRM(1,1) Model Based on Reciprocal Accumulated Generating  [PDF]
Ruibiao Zou
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/am.2012.38135
Abstract: Applying the reciprocal accumulated generating and the reconstruction method of GRM(1,1) model’s background value of non-equidistant sequence based on the exponential trait of grey model and the definition of integral for the problem of lower precision as well as lower adaptability in non-equidistant GM(1,1) model, the calculation formulas were deduced and a novel non-equidistant GRM(1,1) model generated by reciprocal accumulated generating was put forward. The grey GRM(1,1) model can be used in non-equidistant interval & equidistant interval time series and has the characteristic of high precision as well as high adaptability. Example validates the practicability and reliability of the proposed model.
Steady-State Behavior of Semiconductor Laser Diodes Subject to Arbitrary Levels of External Optical Feedback  [PDF]
Qin Zou
Optics and Photonics Journal (OPJ) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/opj.2013.31021

This paper investigates the steady-state behavior of a semiconductor laser subject to arbitrary levels of external optical feedback by means of an iterative travelling-wave (ITW) model. Analytical expressions are developed based on an iterative equation. We show that, as in good agreement with previous work, in the weak-feedback regime of operation except for a phase shift the ITW model will be simplified to the Lang-Kobayashi (LK) model, and that in the case where this phase shift is equal to zero the ITW model is identical to the LK model. The present work is of use in particular for distinguishing the coherence-collapse regime from the strong-feedback regime where low-intensity-noise and narrow-linewidth laser operation would be possible at high feedback levels with re-stabilization of the compound laser system.

A New Scheme for Discrete HJB Equations  [PDF]
Zhanyong Zou
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/am.2014.517252
Abstract: In this paper we propose a relaxation scheme for solving discrete HJB equations based on scheme II [1] of Lions and Mercier. The convergence of the new scheme has been established. Numerical example shows that the scheme is efficient.
Capital Market and Enterprise Core Competitiveness Interaction Mechanism—Based on the Case of Kangmei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd  [PDF]
Bo Zou
Modern Economy (ME) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/me.2015.64044
Abstract: Since the establishment of China’s capital market, it has been imperfect. Many listed companies misappropriating the capital market, and some of them want to expand the size through the capital market. It seems that enhance corporate value is impossible, too. However, companies want bigger and stronger cannot do without a strong leverage of the capital market, and enterprises to enhance their value can be counterproductive in the capital markets, improve the efficiency of capital markets. This paper analyzes Kangmei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, and the relationship between its financing and value growth in the Chinese capital market, research results exist mutually reinforcing mechanisms between capital market efficiency and core competitiveness of enterprises.
An Empirical Study on the Influence of the Economic Cooperation between the Mainland of China and Hong Kong on Economic Growth and Industrial Development of HK since the Return to China  [PDF]
Qi Zou
Modern Economy (ME) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/me.2016.71011
Abstract: This paper presents the economic cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong in the past years since Hong Kong’s return in commodity trade, investment, and service trade, and then calculates the trade combined degree. Based on the data from 1994 to 2013, by the empirical methods of unit root tests, co-integration analyses, and Granger causality tests, this paper studied the influence of the commodity trade, investment, service trade on economic growth and the industrial structure of Hong Kong, and draw the conclusion: the goods imports from Hong Kong to the mainland of China don’t show effect on the second industry, so as the service imports on GDP and the tertiary industry. The commodity trade, investment and service exports from Hong Kong to the mainland of China have the positive effect on the GDP growth. The commodity imports of Hong Kong, and the investment from the mainland of China promote the development of the tertiary industry in Hong Kong; then the development of the third industry will promote the service exports from Hong Kong to the mainland of China.
Medium and Small Investors Interest Protection: Why Am I the One Who Always Gets Hurt?—Case Study of Kang Zhi Pharmaceutical  [PDF]
Hangying Zou
Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2016.43050
Abstract: To safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of medium and small investors is the basic premise of the stable development of the capital market, and is a powerful driving force to promote the improvement of capital market. However, with the rapid development of China’s capital market, a series of major financial fraud cases of listed companies have occurred in succession. These events not only cause great negative impact on our country immature capital market, but also bring serious damage to the interests of medium and small investors. This paper takes the Kang Zhi pharmaceutical financial fraud case as an example, analyzing the root of the financial fraud and its impact on the interests of medium and small investors. Also, in order to improve the mechanism of corporate governance supervision, to improve the quality of intermediary, and to strengthen management of the capital market legal system, some suggestions are given.
