Abstract: we present, without the intention to generalize, a collection of opinions of male and female teachers from rural schools of the araucanía region concerning mapuche childhood and adolescence, and some aspects of their life. an exploratory study, collected opinions of teachers about participation, parent's expectations about their children, intercultural bilingual education (ibe), mapuche upbringing and discrimination. the work was conducted on mapuche pewenche, nagche, wenteche and lafquenche territorial ground within the region, starting with a field trip aimed at getting initial information about relevant topics that would give us a scoping vision of mapuche childhood and adolescence in the araucanía. our aim is to contribute improving curricular organization and pedagogic practice in general and intercultural bilingual education in particular.

Medicina (Buenos Aires) , 2009,
Abstract: the aim of the present work was to describe the distribution of lymphocyte p-glycoprotein activity on a population of healthy individuals, taking also into account sex and age. p-glycoprotein activity in lymphocytes was measured by the rhodamine 123 efflux assay using flow cytometry, in the presence and absence of verapamil, a p-glycoprotein inhibitor. we obtained a range of p-glycoprotein activity from 1.04 to 3.79. the distribution of the activity in the population studied was better described by a bimodal model, according with the kolmogorov-smirnov test. the frequency adjusted to the following equation: f = 0.70 n (2.11; 0.43) + 0.30 n(3.29; 0.26), in which 0.70 and 0.30 represented the proportion of each group, and 0.43 and 0.26 were the standard deviations of the activity of each group, respectively. the study of the relationship between subjects′ age and p-glycoprotein activity showed no statistical significance. when healthy volunteers were separated according to sex, similar distributions were observed, although for men an increase in proportion of higher p-glycoprotein function group was observed. the variability observed in the population studied was important, with some volunteers with very scarce activity and some with a fourfold higher activity. characterization of p-glycoprotein functionality in the population represents a useful contribution to the beginning of pharmacological treatments that consider its effect on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of individualized patients.

Introduction: Microsurgical reconstruction of craniofacial mucocutaneous defects have been performed for many years using well-known techniques, that are mainly based on flaps from the radial forearm, the anterolateral thigh and lateral arm, among others. We present the medial sural artery perforator flap, a new vascularized fasciocutaneous flap for head and neck reconstruction. Material and methods: We present four patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma. A medial sural artery flap was performed for the oral reconstruction after tumour ablation surgery. Results: The medial sural flap showed excellent adaptability and adequate viability in all cases, with good functional and aesthetic results and low donor site morbidity. Conclusion: We present a new reconstructive technique in head and neck defects.

Abstract: We calculate modifications to the Schwarzschild solution by using a semiclassical analysis of loop quantum black hole. We obtain a metric inside the event horizon that coincides with the Schwarzschild solution near the horizon but that is substantially different at the Planck scale. In particular, we obtain a bounce of the 2 sphere for a minimum value of the radius and that it is possible to have another event horizon close to the =0 point.
O realismo de Franz Kafka
Carone, Modesto;
Novos Estudos - CEBRAP , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-33002008000100013
Abstract: taking as a guideline the short story "auf der galerie", included in the volume ein landarzt, the author attempts at showing how "realism" is materialized in the work of franz kafka. it is stated that the deformation of reality that could be suggested by the work of the author follows an acute perception of the world. kafka shows, in the body of such masterpieces, things as they are and how they are perceived by the alienated look.
Sobre as origens e o desenvolvimento do estado moderno no ocidente
Florenzano, Modesto;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452007000200002
Abstract: this paper is organized in four parts. in the first, the state is focused in theoretical and general levels, treated mainly from a sociological and not historical point of view. the second part is essentially historiographical and presents the several explanations proposed by the historians about the absolutist state. the third and fourth parts discuss the origins of modern state in italy - specially venice and florence - and its development in france and england. the paper points out to parallels between those four states.
A Revolu??o Russa em perspectiva histórica e comparada
Florenzano, Modesto;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452008000300003
Abstract: the article suggests a comparative view on the russian revolution of 1917, the french revolution of 1789 and the english revolution of 1640. it argues that a revolution became possible in england, france and russia because a fatal split broke the old regime's establishment, that is to say, a divide between classes, and/or fractions of upper classes, and power. the strenght and diffusion of puritanism, enlightenment and socialism througout old regime's english, french and russian societies, were both the sign and the effect of that spiritual malaise and that political conflict within their respective upper classes (and so, of course, in relation to their subordinate classes). on the other hand, as a counterproof of what it is just said, neither prussia/germany nor piemont/italy, in 1848-1849 and 1918-1919, had something similar; so that a revolution was impossible in those countries and crucial moments.

Biological systems are able to generate magnetic fields. In spite of the fact that these fields are weak, now it is possible to detect them by means of sophisticated equipments and thus opens a new research field. Recent studies on this phenomenon reveal that the detection and analysis of the generated fields in organs such as the brain, heart, lungs, liver and other scan facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses among other possible applications.

Abstract: In this paper we calculated the spectral dimension of loop quantum gravity (LQG) using the scaling property of the area operator spectrum on spin-network states and using the scaling property of the volume and length operators on Gaussian states. We obtained that the spectral dimension of the spatial section runs from 1.5 to 3, and under particular assumptions from 2 to 3 across a 1.5 phase when the energy of a probe scalar field decreases from high to low energy in a fictitious time T. We calculated also the spectral dimension of space-time using the scaling of the area spectrum operator calculated on spin-foam models. The main result is that the effective dimension is 2 at the Planck scale and 4 at low energy. This result is consistent with two other approaches to non perturbative quantum gravity: "causal dynamical triangulation" and "asymptotically safe quantum gravity". We studied the scaling properties of all the possible curvature invariants and we have shown that the singularity problem seems to be solved in the covariant formulation of quantum gravity in terms of spin-foam models. For a particular form of the scaling (or for a particular area operator spectrum) all the curvature invariants are regular also in the Trans-Planckian regime.
