Abstract: Objective: To compare the presence of Mycoplasma spp. in pharyngeal swabs of patients with asthma, allergic rhinitis and controls, also to compare the reactivity to allergens in the three groups. Material and Methods: Throat swabs of 120 patients with asthma, 211 allergic rhinitis patients and 171 healthy persons were cultured in E media. Positive cultures were identified by PCR. Susceptibility of patients positive for isolation of Mycoplasma spp. to indoor, forest and undergrowth allergens were determined. Results: Mycoplasma spp. was isolated in 26.6% of samples from asthmatic patients, 36% in patients with allergic rhinitis and 2.9% in the group of healthy persons.

Abstract: the quilicura vineyard, located in a farm (chacra) close to santiago, was originated in a land grant approved by the town council (cabildo) shortly after the spanish conquest. it thereafter underwent every form of property transfer: sale, inheritance, dowry, subdivision, reunification, donation, debt payment and public auction. its successive proprietors conform to what the historiography has said about chile?s colonial elite: they also owned town houses, farms in the suburban belt and cattle estates in the more rural areas. the vineyard did not only meet economic ends such as the production of wine, small leases and the acquisition of capital through mortgages, but it was also instrumental in negotiating marriages and, surpassing the worldly sphere, obtaining a shorter stay in purgatory. this vineyard is a fine sample of a colonial economic unit, the ways it was exploited, and the expenditures and natural risks it had to confront

The diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis (TBC) involves the combination of several techniques to obtain an accurate diagnosis. Among them, the inspection of the animal body at the slaughterhouse is, perhaps, one of the most important for the surveillance of bovine TBC. In Chile, the guidelines for this practice appear in the Official Inspection Manual of the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG). Nevertheless, there are wrong interpretations of findings at the slaughterhouse. This study describes a squamous cell carcinoma in the submandibular lymph node of a cow that was initially diagnosed as tuberculosis, based on the presence of caseous necrosis and mineralization detected during postmortem gross examination. Squamous cell carcinoma is a common tumor of white-faced cows such as Hereford, which tend to metastasize to regional lymph nodes like the mandibular lymph node.

Abstract: despite new technologies that have emerged in recent times and that have been inserted in the daily routines of a large segment of the population; television continues emerging as one of the main cultural phenomena. while there are broad and diverse national and international studies that explore the relationship of certain social groups with the television media, there is no research in punta arenas that provides insight into the specific experiences of social groups that inhabit this geographical and socio-cultural context. this study identifed the experiences of high school students from punta arenas with television from an area which wasn’t limited only to the specific interaction with the television apparatus, but including aspects related to their daily routine in schools, family and social environment in general. thus, using a qualitative approach, various practices of television reception thematically consistent at group level were identifed through social discourses of students from various schools of punta arenas, despite maintaining different dynamics at an individual level. these are the structuring of a daily routine that determines the interaction with television, the conviction of the students on the infuence of media, its relationship with social institutions, the preference of certain television contents, the dynamics and ways of watching tv and the existence of a critical speech towards television programming. in this way, as other investigations have agreed that television helped limit the hegemony of school as the only means to access information, this study also concluded that the school remains at the top of social interactions of the students. in this context, and noting the significance in the transformation of the schools that may or are have already been provoked by the information technologies, further work is required in order to consider the investigations around the interaction of various social groups- children, adolescents, adults, el
