Hierarchical Latent Semantic Mapping for Automated Topic Generation

Abstract: Much of information sits in an unprecedented amount of text data. Managing allocation of these large scale text data is an important problem for many areas. Topic modeling performs well in this problem. The traditional generative models (PLSA,LDA) are the state-of-the-art approaches in topic modeling and most recent research on topic generation has been focusing on improving or extending these models. However, results of traditional generative models are sensitive to the number of topics K, which must be specified manually. The problem of generating topics from corpus resembles community detection in networks. Many effective algorithms can automatically detect communities from networks without a manually specified number of the communities. Inspired by these algorithms, in this paper, we propose a novel method named Hierarchical Latent Semantic Mapping (HLSM), which automatically generates topics from corpus. HLSM calculates the association between each pair of words in the latent topic space, then constructs a unipartite network of words with this association and hierarchically generates topics from this network. We apply HLSM to several document collections and the experimental comparisons against several state-of-the-art approaches demonstrate the promising performance.
Modeling and Improving the Energy Performance of GPS Receivers for Mobile Applications

Abstract: Integrated GPS receivers have become a basic module in today's mobile devices. While serving as the cornerstone for location based services, GPS modules have a serious battery drain problem due to high computation load. This paper aims to reveal the impact of key software parameters on hardware energy consumption, by establishing an energy model for a standard GPS receiver architecture as found in both academic and industrial designs. In particular, our measurements show that the receiver's energy consumption is in large part linear with the number of tracked satellites. This leads to a design of selective tracking algorithm that provides similar positioning accuracy (around 12m) with a subset of selected satellites, which translates to an energy saving of 20.9-23.1\% on the Namuru board.

Abstract: Apoptosis is involved in aging and age-related disease, with respect to aging, apoptosis acting in a celltype-specific manner. The rate of apoptosis is elevated in-most types of aging cell populations and organs. In stable cells and certain continuously dividing cells, apoptosisserves to eliminate presumably dysfunctional cellsthat show homeostatic failure due to oxidative stress, glycation, and DNA damage, thereby maintaining homeostasis in the body. What’smore, apoptosis, at least in part, plays some important role inthe regulation of aging process and anti-tumorigenesis in mammals. Age-enhanced apoptosis may be aninnateprotective mechanism against age-associated tumorigenesis. There is clear evidence to indicate that senescentcells are remarkably resistant to apoptosis. The intensity of global apoptosis and autophagy clearance significantly declines in humans during aging, as aging repress the apoptotic response. In this paper, we will review the relationship between apoptosis and aging, and outline how are they interact each other.

EPR experiment on \"\"system in 1998 [1] strongly hints that one should use operators \"\" and \"\" for the wavefunction (WF) of antiparticle. Further analysis on Klein-Gordon (KG) equation reveals that there is a discrete symmetry hiding in relativistic quantum mechanics (RQM) that PT=C. Here PT means the (newly defined) combined space-time inversion (with x-x,t-t), while C the transformation of WF Ψ between particle and its antiparticle whose definition is just residing in the above symmetry.
