Abstract: this study evaluated the effects of training ave types of contact with the relations between objects and their linguistic elaborations on reading adjustment performance of university students. the participants were exposed to an evaluation of reading adjustment, consistent of questions of different functional complexity, they were later assigned to one of ave experimental groups differentiated by the level of functional complexity of the training (contextual, supplementary, selective, referential substitutive and non-referential substitutive), a sixth group (control) did not have any training. this training was done to establish relations between the object (projectiles in movement) and linguistic expressions, the complexity of these relations changed between groups. later all groups were exposed to the second reading adjustment evaluation. results show that as the functional complexity of the object- linguistic expression relations increased the average percentage of correct responses increased, specifically in the substitutives groups. results are discussed emphasizing the factors that determine the probability of the structuring of behavior in complex levels.

Simulation as a Support for Ultrasonic Testing  [PDF]

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2014.513118
Abstract:

Ultrasonic testing is a very important non-destructive method for testing components for safety of nuclear power plants and other security and delicate parts in other industries. Nowadays, thanks to the development of computer technology, it is possible to simulate processes which occur during ultrasonic testing. That is why numerical simulations are becoming an integral part of non-destructive testing. Simulations are used to determine parameters of ultrasonic examination, especially parameters of probes and scan plan and also in the analysis of results. They are used in such cases, when it is necessary to verify applicability of probes and methods. This verification could be provided on the weld and test block which are not manufactured. It could be also provided on defects, which are not manufactured in test block, but their presence is possible in given weld joint. Simulations are very useful for verifying the propagation of ultrasonic signal in given area (e.g. weld area). If movement of probe is limited, possibility of whole volume scan should be verified.

Abstract: this article describes the evaluation of second-graders' linguistic skills in biology, and the comparison of execution involving two types of texts: one prepared by the secretary of public education (sep)-and its teaching strategy-and another modified text associated with two strategies derived from interbehavioral psychology. the participants were thirty-six children assigned to three groups: g1, sep text and official strategy; g2, modified text and integration of skill; and g3, modified text and promotion of deductions. a pretest-intervention-posttest design was used with the three groups; the results indicate that significant differences between the two evaluations were found only in g3. on comparing the three groups, only g3 surpassed g1 in a significant manner. the progress in skills by concept are analyzed in terms of their possible relations with the texts and the strategies employed in each group.

Fibre composite optimization
Tomas Mares
Bulletin of Applied Mechanics , 2009,
Abstract: Fibre composites are steadily becoming more and more popular both in industry and science. This progress is unvarying for decades. The call for optimization and tailoring of the properties of the fibre composites is still clamorous and the author of the lecture is going to present his humble contribution to this field of knowledge. The paper is devoted to an optimization, namely to the stiffness maximization, of fibre composites. The fibre composite is a composite composed of a fibre (or fibres) and matrix (or matrices). The point is that the fibre can be oriented or even bent and twisted in a suitable way. The paper starts with a definition of the measure of stiffness as a quantity to be maximized. Then there is excursion into the stiffness maximization of thin plates. In the following, the emphasis is on curved fibres and structures; as the curved shapes are more natural for fibre composites. There arise the necessity to use the curvilinear tensor calculus. For the consistence of the used symbology the section shortly describing tensor calculus is placed at the begining of the paper. The implementation of the tensor calculus into the problems of fibre composite stiffness maximization is demonstrated on stiffness maximization of a thick walled elliptic tube. The paper is concluded with views on the future research that is based on the free fibre composite optimization.
